[UPDATE: Check out more new Captain America images!]

As we anxiously approach Super Bowl weekend and the unveiling of the first trailer for Captain America: The First Avenger, we spend our time excitedly examining the little details of the photos released from the film so far.

We’ve now seen what Chris Evans looks like as Steve Rogers after being subject to the Super-Soldier serum and what he looks like in full Captain America gear. We’ve also seen plenty of location shots and 1940s era vehicles, but fans still eagerly await the official unveiling of Hugo Weaving in costume and make-up as the villainous Red Skull.

Back in October the first major reveal of Chris Evans as Captain America came with the cover image on an issue of Entertainment Weekly and today a newer cover image from Empire which also reveals him in a similar stance, this time much more confident, and again sporting his iconic patriotic colors as the star-spangled Avenger, along with another image, albiet much smaller, of him from a still taken from the film.

UPDATE: Check a gallery of Captain America images from Empire‘s new issue!

You can see more images of Hugo Weaving and Hydra Soldiers over at the Marvel Movies Facebook Page.

With a fully formed idea now of what Evans looks like while in his army duds (and in action), all we have to go on for Hugo Weaving (post-transformation) is the low-quality Captain America Halloween movie tie-in costume images. These include the costume and a Red Skull mask which resemble concept art we previously reported on for the film.

We’re loving the costume designs and set pieces thus far, and this has helped place Captain America: The First Avenger into the top spot on our 20 most anticipated movies of 2011. We can’t wait meet the rest of the cast and see them in live-action!

  1. I’m all ‘Roided up with anticipation for this movie. Sunday couldn’t get here quicker.

  2. Captain America!!!!! Man I can not wait for this movie. I really do hope it works out well. The helmet is alright. The suit is tight. The shield though, is all out awesome. I need it.

  3. if thats his mean face…hes screwed

  4. People people He’s an actor, a pretty good one if you ask me,and the ranting about Seth Rogen and the sacred cow that is not the green Hornet, most of us back in the day only watched for the car and the theme music Van williams had the look and Bruce had the moves for the most part when you go back to the series with the exception of one or two episodes the writing sucked, I for one think that they are handling Captain America just right we’ve got to stop taking this stuff so serious let’s have fun, I know we want to make sure these are done right but let’s not shoot them before we even see the trailer love you guys!

  5. Nobody here seems to consider that these movies serve as a jump off point for the Whedon Avengers movie and judging from this teaser, Captain America does not look like he could hold his ground against Iron Man, either next to him in battle or locked in against him. He looks like a guy with a shield. He doesn’t even throw the damn thing in the trailer and if he did, I’m sure the bounce back to him would look more than a little stupid. Like the Xena chakram that she tossed. Sorry, but my suspension of disbelief is going to have to be on ‘high’, as in I should probably be really high before I see this one and enjoy it even a little. Sadly, though, I will watch this movie because I love Whedon and I love Marvel.
