Captain America posters with Chris Evans New Captain America Character Posters

It’s not that everyone has just forgotten about Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger arriving later this summer. However, between discussion about the artifacts in Odin’s vault, the quality of this week’s X-Men: First Class, and the marketing blitz for Green Lantern, Chris Evan’s first solo outing as the heroic Steve Rogers has been pushed to the back of the superhero movie line for the time being.

For those of you whose favorite Avenger still remains The First Avenger – and everyone else – Marvel has unveiled a trio of character posters for the three big players in Captain America.

Even though Captain America will be the first Marvel production not set in the present (it takes place during WWII), the film will contain numerous plot points, characters, and story elements that help strengthen its connection to the Marvel movie universe. On top of that, Avengers writer/director Joss Whedon also worked as a creative consultant on Joe Johnston’s movie – to help ensure that it will fit better with his superhero ensemble epic.

Captain America still needs to work on its own terms – as an entertaining period action-adventure picture that just happens to feature a hero who dresses in red, white, and blue duds (as opposed to, say, Indiana Jones’ archaeologist gear). Hopefully, Johnston’s film will also not be hindered by its connection to the larger Marvel universe and will integrate the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization with even more fluidity than Thor managed.

While we wait for Captain America to actually be released -  after the inevitable onslaught of TV spots and trailers – there are these new character posters of Evans in costume as the Captain, Hayley Atwell as the daring Peggy Carter, and Hugo Weaving as the villainous Red Skull to fawn over.

Check them out (via Cinemarcado) below:

There’s nothing all that new or revealing about these posters; nonetheless, each of the characters’ respective designs look like solid real-life versions of their comic book incarnations (though opinions will undoubtedly differ in that regard). Weaving’s Red Skull in particular looks as nasty and unnerving as the filmmakers behind Captain America have been promising from the beginning. Now we just have to wait to see some actual footage of him in action – more than the brief glimpse provided in the first Captain America trailer.

Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters this summer on July 22nd.

  1. Red Skull looks fantastic :)

    • Excellent dental hygiene.

    • looks like hes taking a crap

  2. No offense to Haley Atwell, but I can’t stop staring at Hugo.

    • lol, fantastic

  4. The poster with Hayley should not be in any theaters at all. Just looks weird.

  5. Love the posters but to be honest i cant wait to see Cap’s modern day costume.

  6. Damn the Skull looks sick

  7. Yea Red Skull takes the cake

  8. Where can I buy the HYDRA belt?

  9. I was pumped for this movie before, but now that I’ve seen Hugo Weaving’s Red Skull I just had a nerdgasm

    • Clean up on aisle 6.

      • Like.

  10. This should serve to be quite the movie, if everything continues being this good. Then again, Marvel has quite a talent for marketing these…

  11. SKULL

  12. I love these posters. When I first heard they were going to do a Cap movie, I was worried about the helmet. It’s the trickiest part to do on a superhero without looking silly. I’m glad it’s worked out. I miss the actual wings, but for live action I don’t know how that would have looked. Painted-on wings makes sense if he’s active military in a live action world. It’s a helmet after all.

  13. Red Skull looks freakin awesome!
Cap looks a little bleak though ;)… he should consider getting a tan.

Can’t wait for this movie. It will hopefully be the highlight of my year (the rest of it has been pretty crap so far :()

  14. awesome! was getting worried that there’s wasn’t anymore word coming forth!

  15. Okay, okay… I just have to say this – Although its apart of the original suit, the “A” just has to be Photosoped out. If Syndrome (The Incredibles) can’t wear the letters “BS” while babysitting, Captain America just can’t put an “A” on his forehead. Imagine what the neighbors will think.

    Just kidding. Lol…

  16. I’m glad to see that they’re beginning to get on the ball with some CA:TFA stuff and I like the posters; the posters should have been more of an action sequence still shot of each character instead of these though. These posters look like casting photos or what you’d see in the production book. They shouldn’t be looking at the camera. There should also be some 1940′s-esque posters too. These are great but too clean and modern looking; or at least some posters that have that epic “Rocketeer” 40′s period piece style.

  17. I don’t like Cap’s poster. His face looks photoshopped into a drawing of the suit.

    • Agreed

  18. These would make the most awesome pajamas EVER.

  19. That poster of Captain America is awful and doesn’t inspire me in the least.

Red Skull’s, though, could recruit millions of Nazis just based on how cool he looks.

Why do I get the feeling this is going to be one of these superhero movies where the main villain steals the show?

    • Yeah, in that poster, Cap has the posture of Jay Baruschel.

  20. I have to agree The Red Skull looks spectacular! It’s hard to believe Weaving is in there somewhere.

If he can manage to bring the prosthetics to life he is gonna steal the show.

  21. it looks like they decided to go plain and simple again, kinda like how they went with Thor. I think it could have been a lot better, instead it looks like a police line-up

  22. Red Skull looks pretty damn bad ass though, and Im really looking forward to this in July, Im anxious to see how the Cap suit transfers over to the screen

  23. Almost forgot about Cap with all the hype surrounding GL,X-Men and Transformers 3

  24. Red Skull looks awesome!! Really liking the possibilities with this! Can’t wait for Xmen either! — Really cool year for Marvel movies!! Is Ghost Rider coming out at the end of Summer? What other Marvel movie is coming out?

  25. I received my Green Lantern poster in the mail today. It looks sweet. Can’t wait for when the official The Dark Knight Rises poster(s) come out. I have all of the official studio posters for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The Joker poster picked it up for $90 while it was retailing for $300 got a deal from my poster source! Nolans’ Batman franchise is kicking the Marvel Universes ass all on its own. Green Lantern will be better than Thor and Captain America. Superman will be great as well with Nolan producing. Marvel needs to kick it up a notch bam!!!

    • @Wes, I like some DC stuff too and I’m a Marvel guy but please don’t start that here. This is a Captain America article not Batman, Superman or Green Lantern. I think Marvel Studios is doing great as a “THREE” year old studio that are doing their own thing and they’ve got more epic stuff on the way. I don’t hate DC at all, they’ve held back on supporting the their other characters for a long time and are finally now coming around with Green Lantern and possibly Hawk Man. I hope DC does well too; I must admit though, as far as Marvel characters, I will only support Marvel Studios no matter how good or bad Fox or Sony’s movies end up. It’s great you love DC and I hope the Dark Knight Rises, Green Lantern and Superman:MOS do well also but give Marvel a break they’re doing a great job.

    • Green Lantern has crappy CG effects. Captain America will be the best superhero movie to premiere this year. Plus, The Avengers will overshadow Nolan’s TDKR. Marvel is, and always will be, way better than DC.

  26. Why does Cap look so grimey?

  27. Awesome posters especially Captain America.

  28. Marvel superhero movies have always looked a bit second rate compared to the DC ones. Iron Man has got to be the worst of them all. Nolan’s Batman series is the best!! I can only wait to see what Snyder will do to Superman and The Green Lantern is looking promising. We’ll see!

    • How DC has made like 4 movies (in the last 10 years) SR returns sucked and what ive heard GL sucked also. Iron Man was one of the best of the Marvel films. And I honestly cant say I care for Nolans Batman films. How can you say theyre 2nd rate when DCs so little?

  29. What’s with all the straps? It’s like their costumes are made completely out of belts.
