Captain America: Chad Michael Murray vs. Ryan McPartlin?
Feb 6, 2010 by Rob KeyesIs it possible that we’re down to just two contenders for the role of Captain America? Here’s the latest.

It’s an exciting time for Marvel movie fans with Kenneth Branagh’s Thor heavy into principal photography having begun last month and Joe Johnston’s The First Avenger: Captain America likely to announce the casting of its lead character Steve Rogers within the next few weeks.
With the casting of superheroes comes plenty of rumors and speculation and we have two names for you of possible leading candidates for the career-defining role of the WWII veteran and later leader of The Avengers in Ryan McPartlin (Chuck) and Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill).
If either of these two choices come to fruition it would appear that TV stars have been recently getting some big attention in Hollywood as Stargate: Atlantis’ Jason Momoa was also just cast as the title character in the Conan remake.
In an interview with Moviehole, Chuck actor Ryan McPartlin revealed that he has read for the part of Captain America, something we expect a plethora of young actors have done in recent weeks.
“The one thing I can’t stand are these actors that are twittering about auditioning for Captain America. It’s really tacky. With that said, it is in the casting process and like many other actors, I read for it, so we’ll wait and see what happens. Regardless, I’m pretty psyched to be Captain Awesome for the time being.”
By his comment about the tweets, I’m sure McPartlin is referring to the likes of relative unknown Johnny Pacar who tweeted about auditioning for Captain America in mid-January.

Ryan McPartlin as Captain America?
So, who is McPartlin competing against? Probably a ton of folks but if this next rumor is true, it might be down to him and Chad Michael Murray. Big Shiny Robot is reporting the following via a forum member who frequents an LA hotspot where Murray was spotted talking about Captain America, possible revealing something very interesting.
So I work in a place outside of LA where some celebrities frequent. Chad Michael Murray is one of these people. He was in the other night and one of his friends with him told me that the casting for Cap is down to Chad and one other person. He didn’t tell more who the other person is perhaps he didn’t know, but I found it interesting. The friend told me that he’d have to lend Chad all his comics and teach him about the background of the character.
Before anyone gets any ideas, this is only a rumor and we have no way of validating it. The timing however, does work and some folks on the internet have thrown out Chad Michael Murray. Then again, what actor hasn’t been talked about for this role?

Chad Michael Murray as Captain America?
If this is true and Chad’s buddy spilled the beans then perhaps the leading two candidates are Ryan McPartlin and Chad Michael Murray. One thing’s for sure; We’ll find out soon.
Who should play Steve Rogers/Captain America? Out of these to, I say McPartlin. He played Captain Awesome in Chuck and it doesn’t get much closer than that
.

Around the web:

Yikes. Chad Michael Murray? If he's one of two, we're in trouble. No way is this kid Captain America. Who the hell is Joe Johnston looking for? Spider-man? C'mon! McPartlin is the best fit. He's probably a better fit than most rumored names (ie Matt Damon). MacPartlin looks the part and is quite awesome on Chuck. He's got my vote.
Just as a side note: from what I've read, i.e. Joe's ideas on what/who Cap is (a kid looking to “fit in”), and the casting options I've seen (excluding McPartlin), I fear for my favorite character on the big screen. Please, Joe, don't blow this. You pretty much have my confidence back if you cast McPartlin as Steve Rogers.
either of them would be good as Cap, but Im thinking McPartlin since I'm a Chuck fan.
i honestly don't think either of these would make a great Steve Rogers. I've never watched Chuck, so I can't really comment on Ryan McPartlin, but he doesn't really look right for Capt. As for Chad Michael Murray, I'm a big One Tree Hill fan, and I thought he was great in House of Wax, but I just don't think he would be a good Captain America, he's just too… 'pretty'. Am I the only one who would have loved the Sam Worthington rumor to be true?
Well, if Chad Michael Murray gets chosen, at least we'll know the apocalypse is near…
As a massive Chuck fan, and knowing Captain Awesome's (Ryan Partlin), well, awesome potential, I'd love to see him as Captain America.
Capt Awesome all the way!!!
I don't like either of these candidates to play one of the most important characters in Marvel history, not to mention the leader of the Avengers! But out of these two not so great options I would obviously choose McPartlin over Murray. I don't think Chad Michael Murray will be able to carry the films that will be staring the character and he just doesn't have that “powerful” look that Captain America has. McPartlin still wouldn't be the best choice… So far these rumors have greatly disappointed me. Thor had much better casting options. But if these are the only two to decide from then I would personally go with McPartlin.
I think Ryan McPartlin is better for this movie.
Why is Murray even being considered, HELL NO!!! McPartlin is a far better choice if I had to choose between these two. He is Captain Awesome after all.
Joe Johnston is going to disappoint us all. We should get prepared for it now.
I just read that the Red Skull has been confirmed as the villian and that a majority of the movie will be set during WWII, which we figured. He also said something that bothers me. Johnston said he will be filming the movie in some type of new style that hasn't been done before. That's either bull or he really is going to destroy our favorite hero.
Ryan McPartlin is the best fit out of these two, but I still hope Jensen Ackles gets the part.
McPartlin is perfect for the part. He'd also be a great Flash Gordon, too.
Channing Tatum or Sam Worthington…….both fresh faces with promise. 'nuff said!
channing tatum cant act in action movies, he failed in 'fighting' and i didnt really like him in that dance movie. sam worthington cant hold a neutral accent, he drops his aussie tone alot (particularly in avatar)
Alright, if Chad Michael Murray is Captain America I think we all should just give up on life..
I want Jensen Ackles from Supernatural to be Cap, That would be Freakin awsome.
More updates – looks like 5-6 candidates, all relative unknowns, 23-32 in age:

Out of these two, definitely Ryan McPartlin. I truly think that he would be an Awesome Captain America. He is amazing on Chuck and I think that the role of the Cap would suit him well. Honestly, I like the sound of him being named Captain America than I do a lot of others that have been rumored to take the role. Although, I also think that Jensen Ackles would be a good fit.
hey if u need help deciding..here is ryan on chuck

I think doing Captain America is great, but he should be an older generation superhero than a young person in their 20's. My reasoning for this is that a young person would act cocky and not take roll of a leader. So, someone in their mid-late 30's would show leadership skills and knowledge to command the Avengers. I mean, unless you gearing up for an young Avengers movie, I think if you have someone young to start with this film, then you might as well rate the movie PG instead of the PG-13 to R rating that most of us die hard fans want to see in some comic book movies. The Dark Knight came pretty close to R rating, but that's DC comics. Last thing, Chad Michael Murray really? Just because someone can act the part doesn’t mean they can look the part. The same goes for the other guy, same thoughts vice versa.
Ryan McPartlin is 35, the perfect age by your reasoning. He also has the build, which Chad Michael Murray cannot match because of surgery for a stomach injury that severely limits his caloric intake.
true
I would also like to see a middle aged version of Cap instead of something for the new generation. The movie industry needs to cater to the people who actually have lived thru the comic book era……not the tweeters!
If either of these guys are cast I might be gvibg this a miss. Was really looking forward to it up until this point.
Yuk ! No ''one tree hills'' in my Marvel please.
“Chad Micheal Murray as Captain America i dont think so, I HOPE THIS IS JUST A BAD RUMOR”
If these guys are the top contender's then my votes on Mcpartlin. I think they should go with a unknown cuz i can't really picture any body holding the shield.
Chad Michael Murray as Captain America? Let's see a “sickly young man, enhanced to the peak of human perfection”, of course that must be Chad Michael Murray! At least Murray meets the first part. Come on, who exactly is he going to fight, maybe Peter Parker before the spider bite? Unless they are trying for the “Twilight” crowd why not find someone with a little more size and a little less pretty!
Channing tatum???? No way in Hell!!!
