The last – and what many consider the best – Marvel comic book movie of Summer 2011, Captain America: The First Avenger, will arrive on DVD, Blu-ray, and even Blu-ray 3D next month.

Besides the customary collection of extras (behind-the-scenes videos, deleted scenes, etc.), the Captain America Blu-ray will also include an early look at the filming of The Avengers – as well as another S.H.I.E.L.D. short that will help fill in the gaps between all the previous Marvel flicks and writer/director Joss Whedon’s superhero ensemble adventure.

Production on The Avengers has been ongoing for a while now – and fans have been snapping up photos from the set like crazy. By and large, though, a good chunk of the film remains under wraps… well, except for its primary villains (a.k.a. Loki’s army) and a couple of action sequences, that is.

Chris Evans will reprise his turn as Steve Rogers/Captain America in The Avengers, which the actor says will feature a (relatively) more complex and troubled version of the patriotic superhero. Considering how well Evans’ portrayal of Rogers went over with fans in Cap’s origin story, it should be fun to see him further flesh out and develop his take on the First Avenger. That’s certainly something Evans never had the opportunity to do in his previous Marvel movie universe role (ie. Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four films).

You can revisit Evans’ first turn as Cap – plus, get a (brief) look at some Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. action – by watching the Captain America Blu-ray trailer (via Marvel) below:

It looks like there will be plenty of goodies to enjoy on the Captain America Blu-ray – between featurettes exploring the film’s special effects, behind-the-scenes looks at the first day (and beyond) of filming on The Avengers, and a S.H.I.E.L.D. short where good ol’ Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) actually gets to kick some butt himself.

Captain America is the sort of action-packed blockbuster that stands to really benefit from the Blu-ray format, what with its thrilling set pieces and visual trickery – not to mention, those with a decent surround sound system in their homes will be all the more able to enjoy Alan Silvestri’s catchy orchestral soundtrack for the film.

Be sure to check back on Screen Rant when the Captain America DVD/Blu-ray is actually released, for our final verdict on the product and rundown of its extras/bonus features. 😉

Captain America: The First Avenger hits DVD and Blu-ray on October 25th, 2011.

The Avengers will arrive in U.S. theaters on May 4th, 2012.

  1. Already have it on pre-order. What about the Green Lantern BR/DVD?

    • Kahless, you are the biggest comic book geek of all, lol.

      • In more than one way, dude. 😀

  2. Epic, Im going to get this definitely!

  3. Will be searching the web for the Coulson short. He is the unsung hero of the MCU. Waiting on his solo film.

  4. I still prefer cap’s helmet in this compared to the Avengers pics.

    • I agree. If they wanted a helmet they should’ve used this one and just changed the leather part. It looks old fashioned

      • Guess what………..The AVENGERS Are NOT OLD FASHSIONED…he is going to look like cap in 2012…not the cap of 1943, get over it.

  5. Downloaded this trailer form youtube, and watched the Avengers footage frame by frame on my PS3 – there are some awesome shots:
    Nick Fury firing a gun,
First look at Cobie Smulders in her full SHIELD uniform,
    Thor running through the Helicarrier,
Thor’s hammer returning to him after throwing it,
Some shots of the Whedon, Black Widow, Cap, Stark, and Hawkeye in the helicarrier,
And the best shot of all: Iron Man’s damaged helmet with something that looks like an explosive battle in the backround…

(All the above mentioned shots are all from the Cap Blu-Ray trailer after watching it frame-by-frame.)

In short: I can’t wait for the Cap Blu-Ray release 😀 – if the trailer has so many cool Avengers shots then I can’t even imagine how much we’ll get to see on the disk!

P.S. I’ve heard quite a few rumors that the “Official Avengers Trailer” will make it’s debut on Cap – Blu-Ray… has anyone else heard this?

    • its prob just gonna be the teaser trailer for the avengers i think

    • Probably the teaser they played after the credits of Captian America

      • Friend who works at movie theatre told me Avengers Trailer will debut during Red Steel with Hugh Jackman.

        • “Real Steel”

        • I guess I’ll be watching Real Steel then. Well, I was going to anyway but seeing the Avengers trailer on the big screen is a must for me.

          • @Motoko

typing error. Rock’em Sock’em Robots lol

  6. I wish that all of them offered the option of watching the movie with the deleted scenes included. Silly me, that’s what the ‘directors cut’ is for, more money from us.

  7. When are we going to get a glimps of The Hulk regarding the Avengers movie? Everything else is sounding fantastic…just dying to see my favoutite Marvel character back on the big screen again…this time – really kicking some butt !

    • Haven’t seen any teaser clips or shots, really, of Skrulls, or Hulk, or Iron man (in armor) yet…..c’mon Marvel, tease me and please me! Your efforts will seize me!

  8. AAARRRGGGHHH!!! Gotta-buy-these-now!!! NNNOOOWWW!!!!!

  9. My favorite super hero film this year so it deserves to be owned on Blue Ray. I’m waiting anxiously and have pre-ordered it from Amazon. The extras sound pretty darn cool!

  10. Awesome trailer.

The short film looks badass and Anget Coulson is finally kicking butts.

Also the sneak peek for The Avengers is great.

Captain America: The First Avenger is the best comic book movie of the year along with Thor and X-Men: First Class.

I really hope The Avengers turns out to be the greatest comic book movie of all time.
