The last – and what many consider the best – Marvel comic book movie of Summer 2011, Captain America: The First Avenger, will arrive on DVD, Blu-ray, and even Blu-ray 3D next month.

Besides the customary collection of extras (behind-the-scenes videos, deleted scenes, etc.), the Captain America Blu-ray will also include an early look at the filming of The Avengers – as well as another S.H.I.E.L.D. short that will help fill in the gaps between all the previous Marvel flicks and writer/director Joss Whedon’s superhero ensemble adventure.

Production on The Avengers has been ongoing for a while now – and fans have been snapping up photos from the set like crazy. By and large, though, a good chunk of the film remains under wraps… well, except for its primary villains (a.k.a. Loki’s army) and a couple of action sequences, that is.

Chris Evans will reprise his turn as Steve Rogers/Captain America in The Avengers, which the actor says will feature a (relatively) more complex and troubled version of the patriotic superhero. Considering how well Evans’ portrayal of Rogers went over with fans in Cap’s origin story, it should be fun to see him further flesh out and develop his take on the First Avenger. That’s certainly something Evans never had the opportunity to do in his previous Marvel movie universe role (ie. Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four films).

You can revisit Evans’ first turn as Cap – plus, get a (brief) look at some Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. action – by watching the Captain America Blu-ray trailer (via Marvel) below:

It looks like there will be plenty of goodies to enjoy on the Captain America Blu-ray – between featurettes exploring the film’s special effects, behind-the-scenes looks at the first day (and beyond) of filming on The Avengers, and a S.H.I.E.L.D. short where good ol’ Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) actually gets to kick some butt himself.

Captain America is the sort of action-packed blockbuster that stands to really benefit from the Blu-ray format, what with its thrilling set pieces and visual trickery – not to mention, those with a decent surround sound system in their homes will be all the more able to enjoy Alan Silvestri’s catchy orchestral soundtrack for the film.
