[Update: April 26, 2015 - Daniel Bruhl confirms Baron Zemo role in Captain America: Civil War]

Shortly after unveiling their next slate of film releases beginning in 2016, dubbed "Phase 3," Marvel Studios began casting for the first film leading that chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and announced that Daniel Bruhl would have a role in Captain America: Civil War. Bruhl (Rush, The Fifth Estate) is joining the returning stars of Captain America: The Winter Soldier alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Chadwick Boseman, and a few other Avengers.

What his role is remains unclear but the time of the announcement, reports indicated Bruhl could be playing a supporting villain in Captain America 3 who could return with an even larger role that same year in Doctor Strange.

Speaking with WSJ about his soon-to-be-released films The Face of an Angel and Woman in Gold, the Spanish born actor who made his big break in North America with Inglourious Basterds also spoke about his excitement for joining a Marvel superhero film.

"Absolutely. It’s huge for me. From the world I am coming from and the movies I have done, this feels big—megalomania and huge. I think I will be walking around for the first week being amazed, like a little boy, to be in that universe. It is going to be fantastic. It is something new. That is why it is a challenge. But it is something I am very much looking forward to because this is entertainment on the highest level."

While rumors and speculation point towards Bruhl's character potentially being a version of Marvel Comics villain Baron Zemo (pictured below), Bruhl unfortunately cannot divulge any details about his character or role in the film, as per Marvel's strict secrecy policy. That's something every actor working at Marvel has talked about with us over the years, and lately, they can't even mention how many movies they've signed for since that's also now inherently a spoiler.

"I am not supposed to say anything. I cannot even talk about the part, really, because I would be too afraid to give something away and then I’ll end up in the Marvel prison and I do not want that."

Prison's at least not as bad as Don Cheadle and Paul Bettany speaking about Marvel snipers taking them out if they reveal details about their roles...
