‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Super Bowl Trailer

Published 8 months ago by , Updated March 5th, 2014 at 10:45 am,

There are five Marvel Comics adaptations hitting theaters in 2014 and the first of them is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Serving not only as the bridge film between The Avengers and next summer’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Captain America sequel also represents the first theatrical release by Marvel Studios to test out a spring release date.

With Captain America 2′s April release fast approaching (March in the UK), Disney and Marvel are taking to the Super Bowl to launch their second trailer for the film, and have teased the event with new character posters and photos. The first Winter Soldier trailer set a high bar as one of the best to come out from the studio and the latest footage maintains that high bar.

Not unlike Thor: The Dark World testing the fall in November 2013 and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy trying a late summer August date, Disney is taking advantage of their first wave Marvel Studios sequels (Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe) to spread their wings and seek success outside of the traditional blockbuster season, leaving the key May release dates for the Marvel movies by rival studios Fox and Sony for X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, respectively.

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.

  1. WOW WOW WOW….so slick can’t wait….looks great !

  2. Good luck Warner Bros. this looks hard to beat!

  3. Great trailer…just one question who was under that sheet near the end of it? do we know?

    • In the comics, Nick Fury dies and Cap is made director of shield, this trailer says it all.

      • No he doesn’t, no it doesn’t.

      • In the comics, Cap does become the head of SHIELD, but Fury doesn’t die. He goes into hiding for a while, but that’s about it.

        • I knew Fury went into hiding because it showed it in the Marvel Civil War but never understood why

    • It’s Coulson. In a moment, he’s gonna sit up and hug Cap, who’s gonna freak out at the awkwardness and hit him in the head with the shield.

  4. This looks epic! But I also thought the same for IM3 and Thor 2 and I came out a little dissappointed with those.
Will be a great year for super heroes though!

    • +1 I came here to say the exact same thing, except I wouldn’t have been as kind with Iron Man 3. Still looking forward to this, though. It’s my favorite Captain America story and I hope they do a great job with it.

  5. My goodness. The best trailer Marvel’s ever made. I hope the film can live up to it!

  6. to quote Maclemore, “this is f’ing awesome!”

  7. And this marks the point where I begin to actively avoid all media related to this movie until the time comes that I can see the movie itself.

Otherwise I will have seen 80% of it through TV spots and special look clips before the movie ever premiers in its entirety.

    • I’m with you Justin. I’m going to have to stop watching the previews, trailers, teasers and all press related to this movie.
I’m afraid I might have seen too much already.
But it looks like the movie should be great.

  8. I’m sold Marvel, take my money on April 4! I haven’t been this happy about a movie since the Avengers trailer that showed all the heroes in a circle. “If their shooting at you, then their bad.” Great Stuff.

  9. From the looks of this trailer, The Winter Soldier has potential to be the best Marvel movie yet! I’m so excited for this!!

That moment when the Bucky reaches through the windscreen of the SUV, and ripped the steering wheel out, then jumped to another suv… I lost it… I know trailers can sometimes be misleading, but everything i’ve seen about this film has blown me away… wow

  10. Awesome!! I can’t wait!!

  11. hoooe leee faauuuck!

this gave me goosebumps, Bucky sliding and the sparks coming from his hand looked fukin dope….Falcon also looks incredible

  12. Boo,! That looks epic! Loved it.

  13. Now I can see why Marvel wants the Russo Brothers fro Cap 3

  14. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOp I cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. man the look in Winter Soldiers eyes….

  16. Great trailer, mediocre posters (also sad to see that Falcon wasn’t included in them. Does he just have small role in the movie?)

But hey, don’t judge a movie by it’s poster. Anyway, this is looking to be much more promising than the past couple films in Phase 2. I didn’t think they were bad, just disappointing. I really hope this one’s better.

  17. Not as good as the first trailer, IMO. But can’t wait for this film.

  18. This easily looks like the best Marvel film to be released thus far. Huge improvement over the first Captain America

  19. Meh… looks like a po-faced take on Steven Sommers’ GI Joe. Nice try, Marvel.

  20. So glad I live in the UK, will get to see it sooner than the yanks!

  21. Soooo it looks like nick furys dead

    • No he won’t…..the brain operating machine, ask coulson, pffff just kidding

  22. HOLY $#!+ is it April yet!!!

  23. Ok…amd I the only one thinking that Redford looks a little sinister looking in ever trailer/promo has has been in? Could he possibly maybe be…the Red Skull?

I mean in the comics he managed to infiltrate the government and become the secretary of defense…so maybe in the movie universe they make him the SHIELD big boss…best place to hide then right under SHIELD’s nose no?

And honestly, after the mandarin, can we really say this idea is too far fetched?

    • Not far fetched, it’s probably the biggest rumor/debate going. Is he the red skull or not. Otheriwse, there’s the ms.Marvel rumor, that she may appear as her pre-powered self.

  24. Strange they didn’t give (what looks like) this much effort to Thor 2. Thor 2 was terrible and this looks pretty darn good.

  25. Seems to be fighting in the house….idk what to think yet on falcon…I mean he just came off as a moron…whose the bad guys? Really that made me cringe. I’ve had such high hopes for this one but one of the things I hate about marvel is the over the top inapropriatly placed jokes….

I just hope this isn’t like the other two phase 2 films. Im3 was such a disapointment and type 2 was medicore…also I’m on the fence with gotg.

  26. just watched this again…do you guys think Bucky’s arm is Vibranium aswell?…could be why they go to Africa also

    • IT looks that way. It most likely is if he’s able to GRAB cap’s shield.

  27. Man, I wish you guys reviewed the trailer a little more. There’s so much juiciness in it!!! I hope you guys talk about it extensively on the Undeground Podcast.

  28. The scene where falcon asks, “when do we start?”. Is that a cemetery? Looks like headstones in background. And if so, whose grave are they visiting?

    • Hawkeye?

someone is under a white sheet and Black Widow seems to be pretty upset

      • If so, the poor guy got the short end of the stick. He was barely in avengers (as a good guy). Guess we gotta wait to see…

        • true haha, actually i don’t think he is in it….maybe Coulson pre Tahiti? i’m just spitballin now eh!

          • And that looks like Maria hill in the background. So it has to be someone SHIELD related. Looks great though, can’t wait!

  29. Freaking stoked!!!
