‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Super Bowl Trailer

Published 1 year ago by , Updated March 5th, 2014 at 10:45 am,

There are five Marvel Comics adaptations hitting theaters in 2014 and the first of them is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Serving not only as the bridge film between The Avengers and next summer’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Captain America sequel also represents the first theatrical release by Marvel Studios to test out a spring release date.

With Captain America 2′s April release fast approaching (March in the UK), Disney and Marvel are taking to the Super Bowl to launch their second trailer for the film, and have teased the event with new character posters and photos. The first Winter Soldier trailer set a high bar as one of the best to come out from the studio and the latest footage maintains that high bar.

Not unlike Thor: The Dark World testing the fall in November 2013 and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy trying a late summer August date, Disney is taking advantage of their first wave Marvel Studios sequels (Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe) to spread their wings and seek success outside of the traditional blockbuster season, leaving the key May release dates for the Marvel movies by rival studios Fox and Sony for X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, respectively.

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.

  1. Hehe. ScarJo looks like she’s jumping rope.

I’ll be first in line for this one, no doubt.

    • what do you mean? and I think she will be good in this one.

      • Actually, I gotta complain about the pose.

Does she look beautiful? Yes. No doubt about it.

Does she look like an action hero? Not remotely. That’s not the way person looks when they’re walking into a fight. Sorry. They’re doing her a disservice showing her like that. They don’t have to pose her like a supermodel instead of a superhero for her to look hot.

        • Its not supposed to be an action sequence pose. Her pose is a nod to all the comic book covers. For that matter, so is Caps.

          • What the Japanese might call “fan service”. Also ridiculous to me to take her seriously in the role. Makes me cringed. That left leg is just wrong.

            • I can suspend disbelief for the sake of enjoying the movie. It’s not as though Evans was ever a soldier or even a fighter for that matter. They both worked hard to do their stunts though, or at least, to do what the studio allows them to.

        • At least she’s practicing gun safety by pointing them away from her body and feet.

  2. anyway…..
as far as the teaser goes….

the title of the article is a little misleading.
I thought you guys actually had the superbowl trailer.

the teaser, is just enough to whet our appetites.
    looking forward to this one.

  3. I am really hoping that Redford ends up being the red skull. I was in target yesterday and the toys out for Cap 2 does include a redskull. not saying that means anything at all, but It did make me a little curious.

    • You do know that Hugo Weaving was playing Red Skull in the first CA?

      • You do know that Red Skull has possessed a powerful American businessman (can easily be changed to a politician, like Robert Redfords character in the movie) in the comics, right?

      • You do know that Hugo Weaving has expressed no interest in returning as Red Skull right?

        • Hey 80s Optimus Prime, can you please sign off every comment with “Autobots, ROLL OUT!” from now on? When I read you comment, I heard Optimus’s voice, and it seems only fitting that you sign off with that…

          • haha exactly.

    • /headdesk

  4.    O_O

    …can’t wait…

  5. Scarlet looks amazing in that poster

    • F*ck yeah she does!

      • I wish I was a black widow so I could crawl up them sexy legs…Ermm…Did I say that out loud? Sorry guys.

        • Don’t worry, we’re all thinking it.

          • She can be my IOS system anytime…

She doesn’t even have to be my IOS and I’d still probably have sex with it.

          • I’d honestly like to just talk with ‘Her’ (see what I did there!? :D )It would make my day!!!(I’m not married so…yeah. Come Scar J I <3 YOU!)

            • She doesn’t look like she can be taken serious in this photo. She just looks like she is using her sexiness to disarm foes. Notice how her weapons are down at her sides and her main weapon is front and center.

              • would you be able to concentrate while staring at her…

            • That’s what Black widow does, she uses her sex appeal to fool bad-guys then de-crotches them. Easy. Hott. And AWESOME!

    • Not a huge fan of unnecessary photoshop. She has a great figure to begin with folks.

      • I agree and so does my husband, who has no problem stating his honest opinion on such subjects. I would like to have seen Joss Whedon’s reaction to that poster, I really don’t think he would approve, at all.

    • Yeah can we get a poster with just her on it.

  6. I’m sold. Can’t wait for April.

  7. Black Window’s pose looks abit akward

    • Poster photographer:

“Yes, Ms. Johansson? You mind holding your guns out unnaturally and acting like you are either jumping rope or just really need to pee…

      …nailed it.”

      • Yeah, she looks like she just drank a big gulp and that ridiculously tight outfit is cutting into her bladder.

That poster looks silly and unnatural.

        • she looks like shes whipping her hair back with her head

      • Looks like she’s walking sexy and dropping out her gun clips…not that awkward.

        • Nope. Stupid, unrealistic, and sexist. It seems like Ripley and Sarah Connor are still the only badass female action heroes in the mainstream. I have no hope for WW to fix that either.

          • Lets agree to disagree because you missed my points by a long-shot.

          • It’s a fairly well done replication of one of Black Widow’s best comics covers.

    • any chance she could be jumping off of a hellicarrier a-la falcon in the first trailer?
we do see the ship getting attacked in the air and then crashing down on another frame. (or am i trying to see things too much?)

  8. 2012:
    3 Marvel movies
    1 DC movie

    3 Marvel movies
    1 DC movie

    4 Marvel movies
    0 DC movie

    3 Marvel movies
    0 DC movies

The future looks bright for DC…

    • I love how you left out the key year.

      BATMAN VS SUPERMAN. [Mic Drop].

      • Not sure one movie in 3 years deserves a mic drop… :)

Granted it’s going to be awesome but they are tardy to the party.

      • [Pic up mike]” Good night everybody!” [Smoke bombs stage.] “I’m BATMAN!”

        • ^ +100 I laughed, Sphynx.

        • Thx dude, I meant Mic btw….

      • [picks mic up] the year of the Batfleck, yo!! Recognize.

      • lol… hardly anything to get excited about taking into account previous DC movies.
i aint hating because i dont like to judge movies before i watch because i know if its great i get annoyed that i was wrong but honestly it doesnt look great to include such important characters without giving them some proper introductions. its gonna be an information overload i bet plus action, its not gonna have a great story.

DC ran away from the avengers

        • and not to mention the fact that DC cant even give the superheros their names… its like an embarassment to them to call them green arrow and superman.

      • Why is it a competition? Who cares. Studios all wanna produce good films that make money. They arent “competing” against each other. The only competition would be WHEN they release their movies to get maximum exposure and ticket sales. THAT’S IT. So what one studio is producing more films than another. “But but DC, marvel.. Blablabla” some random artificially created rivalry to sell comicbooks back in the day. How does that apply to major motion pictures?!? Last time I checked WB make a ALOT of films every year, they just dont happen to be only comic book ones. Fack. Tired of every 3rd post being about this idiotic made up rivalry.

      • I know right? It’s tough when the guy in charge of making up the film titles quits

      • 2016:

        4 Marvel movies
        1 DC movie

Yeah. That doesn’t go against his point. :|

        • Not that I’m attacking Marvel here but if Marvel was to release two bad movies, one mediocre movie and one really good one and DC were to release one brilliant movie that wins awards and goes down as one of the best films of the year then…

How is Marvel still winning from that scenario? I’m not saying that’s what is going to happen but quantity is not better then quality. We don’t know this could be where DC start to vastly improve on their movies.

          • I don’t know. I know plenty of people who’d take a whole basket of genuinely delicious eggs over a single egg that may very well taste twice as good, but be praised for more than it’s worth.

    • @Who,
I know this is technically flaming, but in what way is your “comment” relevant to the Captain America Superbowl ad?

      • The article said Cap was the first of four marvel movies this year that’s how :)

    • What’s the point of these posts, that speculate what year comic book movies are coming out… I see them a lot, most of them listing Marvel’s different phases, some listing Marvel vs. DC.

Comic book fans will go see Marvel and DC movies, it’s not like they’re directly competing. People act like they are competing, but to me that just seems like our culture’s tendency to view everything as “Us vs. Them”

      I don’t get it.

      • they kinda are competing, Marvel is way ahead of DC in the movie universe and that means more money, so the heads of DC are well jealous and want their own shared universe.

        • They aren’t really competing at this point, DC has one movie out so how is it even a competition. They just want money it doesn’t matter what Marvel is doing as long as DC is making their money. DC does want and is making their own shared universe in 2016.

  9. does Falcon’s wings look metal or from a kevlar type of material?

  10. Anyone else ever wonder if they use the Hot Toys figures to make their posters??

  11. Looks good. I’ve been looking forward to this since the last one.

  12. Awsome! cant’t wait to see the Falcon in action.

  13. Why can’t marvel come up and create a new poster? They are almost the same and I really don’t want phase 2 to suck. Also it annoys me that nick fury and Black Widow aren’t even looking at the camera! I might Photoshop it right- we need more Black Widow- phrase 3 film? Please marvel? She encounters Mrs or Ms Marvel(I don’t know which I don’t read the comics just the enclyopedia’s) and has to “investigate” her.

  14. This film looks awesome; it seems to be more balanced than IM3. More plots, intrigue and action to keep us at the edge of our seats.

  15. Are their people who dont know who winter soldier really is? The interesting part of this movie is how they explained his youth.

    • Yeah and us guys who do know who Winter Soldier is can be cool about the whole situation and not openly reveal what would be a big spoiler for anyone who doesn’t know.

  16. CAINT WAIT! The Falcon’s wings look pretty good.

  17. Okay, I just need to say this again… ScarJo’s Black Widow looks like a doll in those posters! And now Chris Evans (the helmetless one, seen it on other site) also looks like a Ken-figure (the Barbie ex-counterpart, not the video game one), so… comic-like :D

But the one character I’m anxious to see is Winter Soldier. They need to give him a solo poster!! That last shot on the bridge, that dejavu scene is giving me goosebumps already… (reminded me of the last scene on EMH episode Winter Soldier)

Can’t wait for the actual trailer… and the usual ScreenRant trailer analysis that follows ;D

  18. Who else is feeling a weird Dark Knight Rises type of feel with this? Winter Soldier being the Bane? Eh, anyway, I hope it follows the Winter Soldier comic, only to a certain extent

    • Bull I say. That is you projecting into the situation.

  19. I have decided to wait until the superbowl to watch the trailer. Its gonna be a hard 2 days.:(

  20. I liked the Black Widow poster on its own but it looks super awkward when combined with the rest of the characters.

    • Yea, way better on its own. Her pose just doesnt go woth the poses the guys are doing. They just dont mesh well together.

  21. I’ll hitch onto this trailer…and the film too!

  22. Trailer looks good. Film looks very promising.

  23. What the heck! I can’t believe they left Falcon off the poster. It’s like they thought one black guy on there was enough.

    • Films…we need to focus on the heroes not gov.

    • I don’t think anyone will flamm you. Some other people hat this poster as well.

Not me, I enjoy it when they replicate famous comic covers in the film posters. But I can wrap my head around why some people might not like it.

  24. This is incorrect. There are 5 marvel movies coming out this year. There is an animated movie coming out in November called “Big Hero 6″ produced by Disney Animation.

April can’t come any sooner!!! (Though I think my country will get this on March)
For real, NOT kidding at all! Glad I’m following Sam Jackson Twitter (he tweeted the trailer earlier than ScreenRant haha)

  26. This looks like Titz ona Ritz with a size “WOW” cup! I’ll be there!

  27. Okay…this was way cooler than I even expected…

The full trailer is the better than any other trailer Marvel has ever done… (Other than maybe the avengers trailer where we got to see all these heroes interact)

This movie is gonna be legendary…
