After Iron Man laid the foundation for what has become a staple in contemporary pop culture - and helped seal the deal for Disney buying Marvel - Marvel Studios has been steamrolling production of followups and spinoffs ever since. Iron Man 2 came two years later, and the year after that, Thor and Captain America were introduced, bringing with it the 3D format.

More and more blockbusters are now 3D blockbusters and moviegoers can expect all of the upcoming Marvel & DC theatrical releases to take advantage, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014.

The Incredible Hulk along with Iron Man 1 & 2 never got the 3D treatment, but every Marvel Studios production since, and every upcoming release, will take advantage of the format (thanks James Cameron!) to earn that ticket premium bonus at the box office. Marvel confirmed what we already knew, that the Captain America sequel, and the cosmic adventure Guardians of the Galaxy would be releasing in 3D, moments before Disney announced their updated release schedule which includes Pirates of the Caribbean 5 and The Muppets 2.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER will pick up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” leaves off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. The film stars Chris Evans in the title role and will be directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo.

And we can safely say that come 2015, The Avengers 2 and Ant-Man will also be released in 3D even though that's not official just yet. Our question is whether or not any of them will be shot with 3D cameras, something Marvel Studios has yet to do.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, based on the Marvel comic books of the same name, features an unlikely cast of characters who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. James Gunn will direct.

The Wolverine is also coming in 3D this summer, representing the first X-Men film - and first Marvel film from Fox - to release in 3D as well. Sony also embraced the format with Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and The Amazing Spider-Man last year and will continue to do so going forward.

Iron Man 3 releases May 3, 2013, Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014The Avengers 2 on May 1, 2015 and Ant-Man on November 6, 2015.
