There is a lot of positive buzz for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Chris Evans’ third outing as the eponymous hero; if some of the early reactions are to be believed, this is possibly Marvel’s best standalone movie to date. Feature a three-pronged attack team of Captain America, Black Widow and Falcon, the Russo brothers film introduces a new nemesis and will test Steve Rogers’ espionage skills as well as his ability to throw a shield really, really hard.

There are still over two weeks left to wait before Captain America: The Winter Soldier arrives in theaters, and Marvel seems pretty confident in its chances for success. So confident, in fact, that the studio has released the first ten minutes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier online, no doubt believing that after seeing those first ten minutes people will be desperate to find out what happens next.

The word “bromance” is probably starting to become a little over-used, but it’s hard to think of a more accurate way to describe the way that Captain America: The Winter Soldier kicks off, with Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson bonding over their exercise regime and their distrust of soft beds. From the very beginning the movie has quite a grounded feel, and even when the action does get going (it doesn’t take long), it’s far more akin to a spy thriller than a superhero movie… aside from Cap’s super-strength and speed, of course.

The scene of Captain America and the team taking on the hijacked ship was already partially shown in a four-minute preview for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but with the new footage it’s already possible to catch glimpses of a budding antagonism between Steve and SHIELD as he is told that their ship was trespassing and responds, “I’m getting a little tired of being Fury’s janitor.”

Tell us in the comments if you’re impressed by this opening 10 minutes – unless of course you were able to resist the temptation to watch the video. If that’s the case than you have stronger will power than we do.

  1. Really good, very impressed with the movie. But….. I already had a feeling it was. Chris Evans plays a awesome captain. :) I hope to see it

  2. Video removed.
Did somebody from Marvel sent an angry e-mail to SR?

  3. Already have my ticket for opening night, very excited!!! :)

  4. well this is crap. why did they have to take down the video?

    • Because it was stolen from Marvel.

      • oh gotcha i thought they released it to generate some buzz

    • ……What??….

    • Tell us more, Yoda.

    • So you’re not going to see a movie that supports other people’s jobs because other people work jobs that they don’t like? I don’t know if you’ve ever been on a movie set or not, but it’s high stress and believe it or not, not everyone working on a film likes their job. If that’s how you feel, then you are on the wrong website.

    • Try again? Maybe in English this time? I’ve read this comment 3 times and still have no idea what you’re saying… though I’m sure it’s probably stupid.

  5. I can’t wait to see Captain America 2! The previews and movie clip that I’ve seen are great!

  6. Does anyone know why the colour on Cap’s shield is missing/looks faded? Am I missing something obvious?

    • That’s his stealth/black ops look. He’s not representing America on the mission he working for SHIELD.

  7. I am so glad I saw this 10 minute prelude.

I will make a point to see this in theatres now. Completely serious.

  8. Yep. This movie looks bad ass, even more so than I thought it would. I could just watch this clip over and over again and feel satisfied.

  9. This looks fantastic. I hope it does really well. Captain America is a terrific character with a lot of depth. I wish it were opening tomorrow. 2 weeks can’t get here quickly enough.

  10. Captain America is not my thing just like Batman is not my things because they have no supernatural powers. The supernatural powers are my things but I do watch them just for heck. :)

  11. I hope its going to be as good as the first maybe better :)

  12. Darn, missed the fun. But I can wait for some Cap, Falc, and Widow goodness when it debuts in theater.

  13. i can’t believe you guys posted this video in the first place…

  14. wow falcon just said cap finished a 30 mile circuit in 30 minutes (and he didn’t even pant or there wasn’t single drop of sweat on him) which means he can achieve a speed of 60 miles per hour, while falcon (presumably a peak human)was drenched in sweat and was panting like hell. im happy that MARVEL is focusing on portraying captain’s super human powers rather than just portraying him as a athlete

    • I’m pretty sure I heard Sam Wilson say 13 miles in 30 minutes.

      • dude i think falcon said 30 miles in 30 minutes because later on falcon added how about another lap oh wait i’ll just assume you finished it, i don’t 13 miles in 30 minutes is a speed which will receive this kinda remark

        • 13 miles in 30 minutes might not impress you, but since it is less than half of the current world record for a half marathon (aka 13 miles), I think it is worth remarking on.

        • thats running a marathon in 1 hour. no human can do that. now, comparatively speaking, it sounds like cap could be beat in a sprint. here are some stats on Usain Bolt from wikipedia “Bolt’s top speed, based on his split time of 1.61 s for the 20 meters from the 60- to 80-meter marks (made during the 9.58 WR at 100m), is 12.42 m/s (44.72 km/h (27.79 mph)).
the marvel-wiki states about cap, “Peak Human Speed: He can run at speeds of up to approximately 48 kilometers per hour (30 miles per hour) or higher, and has on occasion run a mile (1.6 km) in 73 seconds (49 mph/78 kph) when under duress.

          • @jeffro, those facts were nice but this movie is following the power set of ultimate version of captain america, who is a low level super human and can achieve 60-75 KPH (37-47 MPH) rather than the mainstream 616 version of captain america who is peak human and can reach 48 KPH (29 MPH)

  15. It is amazing and that is all I will say to avoid spoilers
