Here’s the winner of our latest contest:

  • Elizabeth Kitchin – Washington, DC

Thanks to everyone who entered – we’ll have another cool contest soon!

The Battlestar Galactica spin-off Caprica debuts tonight on SyFy, so we’ve got a contest for you to go with the season premiere. We’re giving away the Caprica season 1 DVD along with a cool T-shirt to one winner.

Here’s the official description of Caprica Season 1:

The Battlestar Galactica phenomenon continues with this undeniably compelling look at where the real conflict between humans and the Cylons began…in a vibrant world remarkably like our own: Caprica. Fifty-eight years before Battlestar takes off, two powerful families – the Graystones and the Adamas – find their destinies irrevocably intertwined after a devastating explosion. As both houses struggle with the line where humanity ends and artificial intelligence – the Cylon race – begins, they’ll face off in a battlefield of corporate conspiracy, murder, sexual politics and family backbiting. From executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick comes this highly anticipated prequel starring Golden Globe nominee Eric Stoltz and Esai Morales and presented in uninterrupted Dolby 5.1 surround sound.

Starring: Eric Stoltz, Esai Morales, Magda Apanowicz, Paula Malcomson, Alessandra Toreson, Sasha Roiz, Polly Walker

  1. I’m particularly looking forward to the episode “Dirt Eaters” because culture (celebration of and clash of) is such a big part of Caprica. I want to learn more about Tauron and how two young Tauron war orphans end up on an entirely different planet. It’s something that they didn’t get a chance to explore as much in BSG (except in a handful of eps) and I love that Caprica is taking it on more fully.

  2. Looking forward to the new season because it is the best frackin show on tv! No other show compares!

  3. I really like the show and its very ingrossing

  4. I’m looking forward to Caprica Season 1.5 because I don’t have cable tv and have never seen any episodes before. If I become addicted, I may have to sign up for cable.

  5. BECAUSE IT’S CAPRICA!!! 1.5
    *sings in opera voice

  6. The show is great, I really enjoy it and am looking forward to more but this is one of those shows I am in so much fear of getting canceled so the more episodes we get the better.

  7. Because I CAN’T WAIT to see what happened after/in connection with the various cliffhangers in last season’s finale! Plus, simply a GR8 show!

  8. I’m looking forward to the developments in New Cap City and what will happen now that it seems Zoe will be entering there and lets face it the mob storyline is fun too (great idea making it seem that Adm. Bill Adama nearly became a mobster vice savior of his people)

  9. Simply, because it shows us how a technological society–not unlike ours–can give over control so easily to artificial intelligence. And if we program that AI the way _we’re_ wired… WATCH OUT!

  10. 1.5 is gonna be epic. all day Caprica on syfy right now. been with this show from the begining. looking forward to more excellant performaces from Morales and Stoltz this season

    • That 1.0/1.5 crap annoys me. Especially when they have such a steep price tag on the DVD’s. Can’t say I’ve watched this show, other than the DVD version of the pilot. You obviously like it. Better than BSG?

      • its not better, but rolls on its own VERY well.

      • I don’t like the 1.0/1.5 concept either.

  11. I am particularly looking forward to continued exploration of identity and what it means to be human, especially through Zoe and Tamara, and I am very curious to see how Sister Clarice and her notions of apotheosis intersect with the “eternal life” offered by avatars. (It’s part of what makes the show not just interesting, but smart.)

  12. Being a fan of the original series and then blown away by the new Battlestar series. I was not sure if Caprica would keep the excitement and drama of the series alive. I was very happy with the first season and looking forward to the next. Thanks for letting me coment.

  13. Regrettibly, I am, both late to the game and live in an area where television reception is…spotty.

As such, I caught up with BSG soley on DVD and loved very much what I saw.

Being something os a completest, then, my curiosity and hope that this will follow suit with all that comes after (snicker) is high indeed.

    Luck be a Cylon tonight!

  14. Caprica is the frackin” Bestrica!!

  15. I’m trying to get caught up, but it’d be nice to have the DVDs on the shelf vs the whims of Netflix and friends.

  16. I am looking forward to seeing the evolution of the Cylons. How they become a people and evolve into the group we know from battlestar.

  17. Because I know it’s the one show I watch that I know won’t be canceled this season.

  18. I love Caprica, I was hooked the very first time I watched! I can’t wait to see what happens next.

    • im right there with ya Misty

  19. I’m looking forward to Caprica Season 1.5 because I appreciate the fact that their ‘future tech’ doesn’t work perfectly all the time – it adds realism to this corner of the science fiction universe.

  20. I never watched BSG so the first half of the season of Caprica was a whole new world to me. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens after the cliffhanger. Really I just want more of the Gtaystones and the Adams families

  21. I NEED more Caprica!!! Every moment is amazing!!

  22. I’m very curious about the Adamas. I felt like Tamara got shorted in 1.0 and I want to see how she has asserted herself in New Caprica City. The whole dynamic with the Adamas is compelling.

With regards to “Battlestar: Galactica” the Admiral and Lee had a tenuous relationship to say the least. Lee spoke of his grandfather as a lawyer who had a significant impact on his life. The Admiral seemed less than thrilled at this (during the Baltar trial).

Clearly young William Adama is heavily influenced by his Uncle Sam and does not hold much stock by his father. How this relationship continues to grow is what I find intriguing.

I want to see bits of the Admiral and Lee in Joseph, young William, and Sam. I wonder if Tamara will have aspects of Kara that the Admiral recognized all those years later and that helped him form his personal bond with him.

After my rant about the Adamas, I couldn’t leave this post without saying how much I love Eric Stoltz and Paula Malcomson as Daniel and Amanda Greystone. “Some Kind of Wonderful” is usually overlooked in the pantheon of John Hughes’ contributions and it took me a good three episodes of “Caprica” to recognize Malcomson since, you know she wasn’t sporting a black eye or cracked lip from a recent beating and was wearing clothes and lost her Western twang that she verbalized so well on “Deadwood.”

  23. I’ve always heard good things about Caprica but I haven’t had the chance to watch it. This is a good way for me to catch up and get involved in another series.

  24. I’m interested to see what happens to the technology which doesn’t appear in BSG. I’m sure if they survived that half of the ships in BSG would be full of people living in a virtual world. The Skytrain seems critical, plot wise at least, yet the cities don’t have tracks and trails in BSG. I really want to see how much of the minutia they can consider.

Prequels in Sci-fi are notorious for introducing new technology, new characters, new elements of the culture etc… without explaining what happened to them and why they don’t exist in the earlier movies about later events. So let’s see those scars… why humanity would turn it’s back on some things and continue to celebrate others.

  25. Not open to Canada? What the frack!

    • Sorry, Gary, it’s not my decision. I always ask the sponsor of a contest if they have any geographical limitations, and sometimes they tell me it’s US-only.

      Vic

  26. I am really looking forward to the new season because I haven’t seen much of Battlestar Galactica which I am told is the best scifi show out there:D I really would like to win this Caprica contest so I can see how it all began in order to follow the Battlestar Galactica series with much better comprehension.

  27. I am looking forward to 1.5 because I really want to see how they move from season 1 to the Cylons we know from Battlestar. I have loved Battlestar and the entire Battlestar Universe ever since one of my soldiers got me hooked on ti while we were in Iraq.

  28. Can’t wait to see where they take the story. Love Ron Moore’s work.

  29. I’m looking forward to more crazy antics with those zany Cylons
