The Caprica Marketing Never Stops

With Caprica due out on the Syfy Channel in early 2010, they’ve already generated interest in it by releasing screeners of the premiere episode to industry critics and selling the DVD.

Now they’re taking it a step farther and taking the Battlestar Galactica prequel to film festivals.

The film festivals they’re scheduled to appear at are the upcoming Woodstock Film Festival on October 2nd and 4th and the Austin Film Festival on October 24th

As much as I’m looking forward to the series because I was won over by the pilot, I feel this is starting to border on marketing overkill.

I have to admit that since the network has changed its name to Syfy, the advertising schema has changed a bit – they’ve gotten more aggressive and pervasive on their own and other networks.

How do you feel about this new avenue of marketing Caprica?  DO you even feel like it is marketing?

  1. This doesn’t seem like overkill, at least not to me. The start of a new Battlestar Galactica series is a great way to introduce new people to the BSG mythology and universe. From that point of view, the harder SyFy advertises and the more venues they advertise in, the more people get introduced to the franchise, which hopefully will translate into more new viewers when the season starts next year.

  2. I felt the backstory for the Cylon raison detre, was believable as well as compelling. However, IMO BSG went downhill stretching the same tired plot getting more & more soap suds on everything. If the writers can avoid that happening again, I’ll go for it. BTW knock off the hooker make-up & high heels in space too.

  3. I have little interest Caprica. I’m sure it will be entertaining to some degree but it won’t be anything like BSG and that show is a hard act to follow.

  4. 790: Did you see my review? I thought it filled the void and the premiere episode did a great job.

Jukeofurl: Sadly, high heels in space makes ratings.

Tal: I get where you’re coming from. Good points. I’ve just been over saturated myself!
