The popular first-person video game series, Call of Duty, has been around since its debut in 2003 and includes multiple story arcs across almost 15 installments. The franchise’s fan-favorite Zombies mode was first introduced a little later with Call of Duty: World at War by developer Treyarch Studios and has since appeared in their followup installments Call of Duty: Black Ops I and II.
Now, the zombie-riddled game mode will appear in Treyarch’s next upcoming game of the series, Call of Duty: Black Ops III. Titled Shadows of Evil, this version of the co-op mode was revealed at Comic-Con International today along with a trailer (above), some tidbits about the storyline and what voice cast should be expected to help players fight zombies.
Shadows of Evil will have a 1940s noir setting and feature four characters, called The Magician, The Femme-Fatale, The Cop and The Boxer, to help unravel an “experience masterminded by the mysterious Shadow Man.” Studio Head of Treyarch Mark Lamia said fans of Call of Duty’s zombie game modes should expect a “face-melting” experience from Shadows of Evil.

“Treyarch has crafted a totally unique and face-melting gameplay experience for our loyal Zombies community, with Call of Duty: Black Ops III: Zombies – Shadows of Evil. The development team has packed Shadows of Evil with more gameplay and fun than any other experience before it, and has an appropriately twisted and deep narrative, performed by fantastic acting talent, that will keep our fans spinning.”
The voice cast for Shadows of Evil includes Jeff Goldblum (Independence Day: Resurgence), Heather Graham (Californication), Neal McDonough (Captain America: The First Avenger), Ron Perlman (Hellboy) and Robert Picardo (Stargate SG-1). The actors’ likenesses will also appear in the game mode, which were revealed in the trailer.
As a popular aspect of the Call of Duty franchise, fans are sure to be excited for a new zombie mode and Shadows of Evil seems to deliver in its hordes of the undead for players to fight. For those fans that are attending SDCC and can’t wait for Black Ops III’s release this fall, there will be a Shadows of Evil immersive activity that drops participants in the game mode’s zombie-filled world.
Of course, those not in San Diego this weekend will need to wait longer to try out Shadows of Evil, but the trailer offers enough of a look at the co-op mode to tease players. Featuring zombies, the noir setting, and Jeff Goldblum with a mustache, there’s plenty in the Shadows of Evil trailer to interest fans.
The Shadows of Evil immersive activity during SDCC is located at 450 Second Ave. Friday July 10th and Saturday July 11th from 12-8PM.
Call of Duty: Black Ops III, along with Shadows of Evil, will be released worldwide on November 6th, 2015.
