I know a lot of you are waiting for confirmation on whether or not Bruce Willis will return for Die Hard 5, but until then you’ll just have to make do with other projects he’s attached to. Adding to the already confirmed Kane & Lynch video game movie and the thriller Catch. 44, Willis is set to star in a new prison escape drama entitled The Tomb.
Deadline has the news that Summit Entertainment (the company behind The Twilight Saga) is in early talks with Willis to star in The Tomb. On top of that, a director may have been found in the form of Antoine Fuqua, the director of Training Day and Brooklyn’s Finest.
The Tomb‘s script was first written by Miles Chapman (Road House 2) but was rewritten by Jason Keller (Machine Gun Preacher). Robbie Brenner and Mark Canton are producing.
There’s already a plotline released for The Tomb and I hope I’m not the only one who thinks it sounds quite ridiculous. Here’s the plot as Deadline has it:
“Willis is in talks to play Ray Breslin, the world’s foremost authority on structural security. After analyzing every high security prison and learning a vast array of survival skills so he can design escape-proof prisons, his skills are put to the test. He’s framed and incarcerated in a master prison he designed himself. He needs to escape and find the person who put him behind bars.”
I guess there’s been more ridiculous plots for movies in the past, but my initial reaction was to roll my eyes. But who knows? Maybe there will be some sort of plot point that leads it to make sense that the creator of the super escape-proof prison ends up on the wrong side of the bars. If not, the film is going to have to rely on some well executed human drama and/or thrills for me to look past the over-the-top plot.
What do you think of Willis possibly starring in The Tomb? Do you find the plot as ridiculous as I do, or are you ok with it?
