Bruce Willis Joining ‘G.I. Joe 2′ Cast As Original Joe?

GI Joe 2 Bruce Willis Bruce Willis Joining G.I. Joe 2 Cast As Original Joe?

Stephen Sommers brought many of our favorite toys to life in 2009′s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and while the film was not of high critical standard, it did a fair job at delivering action and set pieces that rivaled only what our imaginations could come up with when playing with the action figures as youngsters.

So, when the obligatory G.I. Joe 2 was announced with Sommers not returning, many of us thought it would be a good thing to see what another director could do with the franchise and fan-favorite characters. But then star Rachel Nichols revealed that most of the cast would confusingly not return and it was difficult to get excited for more Joe if they couldn’t even bring back the live-action action figures. Since then however, new director Jon Chu has been filling out the missing ranks with names we can get behind, names who will join returnees Duke (Channing Tatum) and Snake Eyes (Ray Park). Soon, we may also be adding Bruce Willis.

According to the Heat Vision scoop, Bruce Willis is in negotiations with Paramount Pictures to play the role of General Joe Colton in G.I. Joe 2, the man who created the original team and earned the title name “G.I. Joe.”

With leadership figure of The Rise of Cobra, Dennis Quaid, seemingly not returning for the sequel either, Willis could be that veteran starpower stepping in to fill the void. Quaid gone, along with Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sienna Miller and Rachel Nichols was a tough pill to swallow for some, but this growing cast list should make up for it:

G.I. Joe 2 goes by the new title of G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation now releasing in theaters on June 29, 2012. Director Jon Chu promises that the sequel will be of a vastly different tone to that of its predecessor. Less “shine,” more dirt, and some real intense action and emotion for the characters. So, think of it as Tears of the Sun 2 but with cooler vehicles and gadgets.

  1. EPIC!!!!

  2. IF Bruce is involved in this film, it will be the ONLY reason I go to the theater to see it. He adds instant credibility to any action flick, IMO.

  3. If you think Willis added credibility to Mercury Rising than you didnt see the film
I will give him a shot in this though .

  4. Willis will be perfect as a Joe. I’m more stoked by Stevenson as Firefly.

  5. “So, think of it as Tears of the Sun 2 but with cooler vehicles and gadgets.”

I’m sorry, but a reference to Tears of the Sun is not a good thing for this film. That was one of the worst military action films I’ve ever seen.

    • Have you see G.I. Joe 1?

      • Good one, Rob.

  6. The only thing worth watching in this film is willis and johnson in action… oh and snake eyes and stormshadow too…

  7. Bring it on Willis!!!!!! I believe in the sequel if Willis is in it!!! :)

  8. still awaiting word on combra commander. hopefully he will have the right look this time. also hoping for a great destro and zartan.

    • that’s what I want to hear. Who will be playing C.C. and what will he be wearing?

    • Well, they said the only characters returning were Duke, Snake Eyes, and Stormshadow. So, I don’t think Cobra Commander will be in this film, which is just lame.

  9. It would be awesome if Bruce Willis joins G.I. Joe 2 which would be great for the movie and also for him.

At least, Willis isn’t going to do a another movie like Setup, the trailer for that movie was so awful that I can’t believe Willis was in that movie, come on he is a action hero legend and maybe after this, I hope he does The Expendables 2 with Stallone and Arine again.

  10. Give us a story synopsis then we can get a clue whether it’s worth the casts time…

  11. Jon Chu. l still can’tget over that. what will they just spontaniously go into an unrehearsed but perfectly horeographed dance number?

    • Haha! I also had than in mind… maybe after the entire finale fight scene they just suddenly danced to a song from grease… LOL!!!

      • “They’re break dance fighting”

  12. Bruce, please, don’t do this to you’re self. GI Joe is one of the worst movies ever…don’t do this man

  13. Which was a rip-off of Inglourious Basterds, right? Which was a rip-off of The Dirty Dozen, right?

C’monnnnn with that. Having multiple actors in an action movie isn’t ripping anything off.

    • in terms of action movies i meant… and no expendables was not a rp off oif inglorious b/c that wasn’t a movie, it was one of tarantino’s PoS

  14. Bruce Willis And Dwayne Johnson in the sequel ??? hell yeah!!

  15. We need a Sargeant Slaughter Cameo!!!!

  16. Tears of The Sun was a bad film?

Hopefully this will be more GI Joe: Resolute than the previous debacle. And I would be fine of they just used regular guns with bullets than those laser pulse thing-a-ma-jigs

  17. Tears of the Sun is better then Rise of Cobra and it’s sequel.

    • Is the sequel out yet?

  18. Bruce will be the ONLY reason I MAY see this.

  19. It will be good to see Bruce and the rock in a gi joe movie.
