Well, yippee ki-yay mother – *gunshot*.

MTV caught up with Bruce Willis at Comic-Con 2010 and the actor revealed that Die Hard 5 is right around the corner and also expressed his desire to see Unbreakable 2 happen.

There hasn’t been any concrete news on Die Hard 5 since Skip Woods was hired to pen a draft of the screenplay back in May. While the plot is currently being kept under wraps, Willis had at one point expressed his desire to see the franchise “go worldwide”.

It looks like we’ll find out what direction Die Hard 5 is taking soon enough, as Willis expects an official greenlight any day now:

“It’s imminent… The coin is about to drop.”

Whatever they’re planning, we can at least take solace in the fact that the proposed John McClane/Jack Bauer team-up Fox was considering has been scrapped. Which thankfully suggests the title of the new film will not be Die Hard 24/7.

Unbreakable 2 seems less certain, but  it’s not for lack of interest on Willis’ part. When asked about the possibility of a sequel to the M. Night Shyamalan hit, he revealed:

“I think we’d have to hip-check Night [Shyamalan] into doing it.. I think that movie should be made.”

Willis had previously stated that Shyamalan had envisioned a trilogy and suggested that there was at least some idea of how the plot would unfold in subsequent films. Yet Shyamalan separately said that making Unbreakable 2 was contingent on him finding the right story.

So unfortunately for fans it sounds like Unbreakable 2 is still a long way from being official. Perhaps Willis can persuade Shyamalan once they start production on Shyamalan’s next film. Though, if the director is allowed to follow through on his plans for The Last Airbender sequels, I wouldn’t expect to see Unbreakable 2 happen any time soon.

Personally, I’m totally on board for Die Hard 5. I know Live Free or Die Hard was a disappointment for a lot of fans and while it’s not even in the same league as the first film, the only parts where it really lost me were the moments McClane became an invincible superhero (a lot like his Unbreakable character, ironically).

I’m not sure how I feel about Willis wanting to expand the scope of Die Hard 5 since I think the franchise would greatly benefit from being a little more claustrophobic again, but my love for the McClane character and the series still outweighs my skepticism.

A lot of films have spawned unnecessary sequels, but Unbreakable is one that actually lends itself to a follow-up. It’s the only Shyamalan movie I’ve enjoyed without reservation and given his recent track record, it might not be such bad timing to get the wheels spinning on this one.

What are your thoughts on these developments? Will Die Hard 5 be a welcome addition to the franchise? Are you still holding out hope for Unbreakable 2?

  1. first off they need to take the kid gloves off they had for live free..the majority of people wants the R rated McClane back. even the violence in live free wasnt of an R rated level..it was bad enough we didnt get the trade mark f-bombs from him.

  2. die hard 5 yes, unbreakables no, becuase M NIGHT sucks. I like the unbreakbles. but dont make a second one becuase MNIGHT has bin sucking anus. And if they do make a unbreakables2 . get a new director

  3. The jet fighter scene in Die Hard 4 was beyond ridiculous, but I really enjoyed it. I’d be totally on board for DH5. I couldn’t care less if they make an Unbreakable sequel. I enjoyed the first one, but everything M. Night has done since then has be mediocre at best. I have no hope of the sequel being nearly as good as the first. Would rather just see it stand alone.

  4. i would love to see a unbreakable sequel or two more i think m night has great vision in films and is ahead of his time.

    • omg you CANT be serious?

      • i agree with anthony, M night has no vision of anything, he sucks, the only ones that didnt suck, were unbreakables, The Sixth Sense and maybe just maybe Signs. Lady in the water sucks, the happening really sucks, and the golden suck of all suck goes to avatar. the rating for that film blows drapmiticly. Metacritic gave the movie 0-100 and rotten tomato gave it and 8%. ive never seen that in a while.

  5. Live free wasn’t as good as the first but it was still good. Gotta agree with you though they need a smaller setting this time more like the first. Each film has gotten bigger and bigger. A building to a giant airport to new York and live free was even bigger than that. Non of the films have Bern as good as the first because John has gotten to invincible and the setting gets to large.

Unbreakable was great I’m not sure about a sequal because the first was great and I couldn’t stand M Night ruining the great story. I’d still watch it though.

    • M.Night just needs to stay away from that one period. another thing they should consider is brining John Mcteirnan back for this one.

      • can i get an A-Men

  6. Yes more Die Hard less unbreakable 2, unless the story is good and I’d prefer M.Knight was not involved.

  7. Anyone remember the Last Boy Scout?

    • Jimmy Dix.the Jig dance, Taylor Negron..good times in that movie

  8. Die Hard 5 MUST, I repeat MUST be an R-rated film. Action fans, and I mean people who are fans of REAL action and not this kiddie PG-13 CGI-filled crap like Transformers, et al, want to see more old school stuff again. Stallone is doing it, and he’s in his mid-60s for God’s sake. Was there even any blood in Live Free? No F-Bombs? Come on people, you’re taking the balls out of the franchise when you do that. R-RATED!!!

    • well, in slight defense for live free..i never saw it in the theaters, i bought the 2 disk unrated directors cut..f-bombs a plenty in that version, not sure how much more blood there was compared to tthe theater release. i was pissed off that it was pg-13, thats why i never saw it in the theaters lol.

  9. I don’t think Shyamalan could make a respective sequel to Unbreakable if he had a gun to his head,,,

Die Hard 5, yeah what the hell I check that out.

    • even if its tainted with a pg-13 790?

  10. Well you knw there gonna do it PG-13 Anthony. PG-13 is todays R rating…

    But I get your point.
So you say there’s a unrated F!omb cut of DH4. Dutel,,,?????

    • yeah 790, check amazon, or maybe ur local best buy might have a copy still, i bought it the day of its release, so im not sure its outta print or not

  11. Thanks Anthony I’ll keep an eye out for that one,,, 8-)

    • glad to help man:)

  12. seriosly people quit hatin on m. night

    • no

      • never ever man M Night blooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwws

  13. This time i hope the 5th Die Hard film will be R-rated because 1. Bruce Willis isnt getting younger. and 2. Die Hard is one more franchise id hate to see rebooted. So i want the fifth film to end with a bang just incase its the last for Willis. If Fox reads these posts, be smart and make it R-rated and younger people will rent it anyways on dvd/Bluray.

    • Ya i hope that Die hard 5 goes R-rated but if not its ok becuase the movie series is still awsome

      • o and

  14. For an avid comic book reading person such as myself, I really enjoyed “Unbreakable”. I felt M. Night in this film truly did represent some good entertainment(surprisingly) for the lore of Good Vs. Bad in the comic book mind set. What really drew me to it, was there we’re wasn’t anything like at the time that took that image of the “Good Guy” and put him in a situation that for the most part was extremely believable as far as his life, relationships, and even his job. Overall I feel that the film was great. But don’t get me wrong, M Night as of recently(and certainly as well in the past) has dropped the ball somethin’ fierce in relation to the dialogue of his films, plot, and so on. But I would very much like to see a sequel to “Unbreakable”, that is, if it held the same atmosphere of it’s predecessor and capitalized on what the last film ended with.

  15. Look I like the 24/Die Hard mash up idea, when John and Jack is around the terroist will be peeing in their pants and M night Needs to get back to making good movies haven’t seen him do anytthing good since signs
