Bruce Willis isn’t ready to retire his action game just yet. The man demonstrated in last month’s Red that he can still convincingly kick butt onscreen; he has Die Hard 5 on the horizon; and Willis is now looking to star opposite rapper-turned-actor Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson in Set Up.

Stuntman Mike Gunther worked with Willis on the fourth Die Hard and will make his directorial debut with Set Up, which he scripted as well. Paul Walker (Fast Five) has been approached to star alongside Willis and Jackson in the pic.

Set Up is an action-packed thriller that revolves around – according to Variety“a group of friends who are catapulted into the middle of a diamond heist that turns deadly.” It’s not exactly an intriguing premise for a heist film and while Willis’ easy-going onscreen persona usually makes even his subpar action flicks a bit of fun to watch, neither Jackson or Walker are know for being especially charismatic thespians. Gunther’s technical expertise assures that the action and set pieces in Set Up should be top notch, but that doesn’t mean the film’s screenplay won’t be riddled with cliché plot twists and dialogue.

Entries in the heist movie genre are often very formulaic and predictable – with a handful of exceptions, like this year’s Inception. Case in point: Walker’s last pic, Takers, did decent business at the box office a few months back, but how many moviegoers now remember anything in particular from that pic (other than Hayden Christensen’s porkpie hat)?

The ‘Takers’ gang in action.

Jackson and producer Randall Emmett were the forces behind the fairly forgettable Willis action pic, 16 Blocks, and are also producing the Die Hard star’s upcoming Catch .44 as well. We can only hope that the future collaborations between Jackson and Willis prove to be more memorable than those (rather, that) of the past.

There’s no official or tentative release date yet scheduled for Set Up. Stay tuned for more information.
