Brie Larson reacts with amazement to a giant ad for Captain Marvel that Marvel Studios has put up in New York City's Times Square. This March, the MCU will finally play host to its first film led solely by a female superhero, Captain Marvel. It'll be a grand introduction too, as those involved with the MCU have firmly established that Carol Danvers' alter ego will be the most powerful hero in the entire franchise to date. Captain Marvel possesses powers beyond any Avenger, and she'll unleash them twice next year, first in her solo film and then against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame.

Captain Marvel will be one of three films the MCU releases in 2019, with Avengers: Endgame being the second, and the third being Spider-Man: Far From Home. It still feels a bit weird to know for sure that Spider-Man will star in another solo adventure before he's even resurrected in Endgame, but such is the price of promoting films released so close together. For that matter, Captain Marvel may also pay a price at the box office, since directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's feature won't even get two whole months in theaters before the Avengers return.

Those concerns aside though, Captain Marvel will likely be a big hit, judging by the MCU's proven ability to turn even the most obscure heroes  - at least obscure to anyone who doesn't read comics - into mainstream box office superstars. As part of the just starting to kick into gear promotional push for Captain Marvel, Marvel Studios paid for a giant full-body ad for the film to be displayed right in the middle of Times Square. This ad was shared online, and Larson herself has since reacted to it with a mix of glee and wonder. Check out her post below.

Larson's enthusiasm isn't surprising, as the actress has been upfront since the moment she was cast about just how cool it is to not only be playing a Marvel superhero onscreen, but to be playing Captain Marvel in particular. The last few years have been a bit of a rocket ride for Larson when it comes to her career. Larson had been working regularly in Hollywood for over a decade already by that point, but it wasn't until her Oscar-winning turn in 2015's Room that she became a well-known name. She's since appeared in Kong: Skull Island and several other smaller films, with 2019 obviously set to be her biggest year yet.

While it's not official yet, it doesn't look like Captain Marvel will stand as the MCU's only female-led solo movie for long. Black Widow's solo project - which many fans feel to be long overdue - looks likely to hit theaters before the end of 2020. In an interesting recent development, Jac Schaeffer - who's writing the Black Widow script - has received a writing credit on Captain Marvel, suggesting the two films may have more in common than titular female heroes getting top billing.
