‘Breaking Dawn – Part 1′: New Clips, TV Spots, & the Original R-Rating

1 year ago by Sandy Schaefer

The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 1 teaser trailer Breaking Dawn Part 1: New Clips, TV Spots, & the Original R Rating

The seemingly endless stream of promotional materials for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 continues on; today, we have even more footage to glimpse from the film, thanks to some new clips and TV spots.

However, perhaps the more interesting new Breaking Dawn – Part 1 tidbit is confirmation from franchise starlet Kristen Stewart that the film was originally branded with a R rating, thanks to the steamy and (literally) bed-wrecking sex scene between Bella Swan (Stewart) and her pale and powerful vampiric lover, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson).

Previously-released clips from the penultimate Twilight flick offered an early look at two of the film’s big plot points: Bella and Edward’s honeymoon and the former’s subsequent world-changing pregnancy. Today’s bit of Breaking Dawn material includes a brief look at the pair exchanging wedding vows; another TV spot, highlighting Bella’s farewell to her father (Billy Burke) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner); and an excerpt from a scene where Jacob alerts the Cullens about his wolf pack’s plan to attack the knocked-up Bella.

It ought to be (painfully?) obvious by now: this sort of syrupy supernatural soap opera drama is what the Twilight franchise is all about. So you might as well take it (or leave it) as you will.

That said – check out the latest footage from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 below:

R-Rated Cut of Breaking Dawn – Part 1?

Twilight Breaking Dawn movie image Breaking Dawn Part 1: New Clips, TV Spots, & the Original R Rating

When Pattinson previously expressed his skepticism about Breaking Dawn – Part 1 not landing an R-Rating, he seemed to figure it would be primarily because of the film’s graphic birth scene. However, Stewart recently informed Glamour that it was actually Bella and Edward’s “night of passion” that originally landed the movie a less box office-friendly classification from the MPAA.

Here, to quote, is what the actress had to say on the scene:

“It was so weird, it didn’t even feel like we were doing a Twilight film. I was like, ‘Bella! What are you doing? Wow! What is happening here?!’”

That sequence was naturally re-edited, so as to land the first half of Breaking Dawn a PG-13 Rating. However, it begs the question: Just how risque will the theatrical cut be? Is the full and explicit version of the scene going to be included on a future DVD/Blu-Ray release of the film? And does the Unrated cut actually show Edward committing the brutal act of biting a pillow to pieces? icon wink Breaking Dawn Part 1: New Clips, TV Spots, & the Original R Rating
