Check Out: ‘Breaking Bad’: Anna Gun Talks Series’ Ending & Skyler White’s Future
With production of Breaking Bad season 5 set to begin in early 2012, fans of the series are waiting with anticipation to find out what happens to Walter White when the series comes to an end this year. But has that information already been revealed by Walter White himself, Bryan Cranston?
In two separate interviews, over a year apart, Cranston discusses what he believes to be the only possible conclusion to the series: “Walter White will die.” How will he die? Well that’s more complicated – though Cranston does hint at what may be the driving force behind Walter’s death wish.
Looking back at a video interview with Jeanne Wolf in 2010 (shortly before Breaking Bad season 4 began production), Cranston said that he felt “pretty damn sure” about the fate of Walter White, while at the same time admitting that he doesn’t know what direction in which the series will head.
“I don’t know where it’s going, but I’m pretty damn sure that he’ll die at the end of this show. At the end of this show, Walter White will die. How he will he die? I really, honestly don’t know – and I’ve never asked [Vince Gilligan].”
You can watch the video of Cranston’s interview from 2010 below:
Jumping ahead to shortly after the Breaking Bad season 4 finale, Cranston spoke with TV Line about the future of his character. While remaining adamant about not knowing what’s going to happen in the series too far in advance, Cranston’s theory of Walter’s death remains – but it appears to have also evolved.
Instead of simply stating that Walter is going to die, Cranston explains that Walter White “knows he’s going out in a year” - and then continues by revealing why Walter White cannot escape death, no matter what.
“It’s been such a journey for me and for this character that it didn’t make sense for me to know too far ahead, because Walt has no idea what’s ahead for him, even an hour. So I don’t ask [Gilligan], and I don’t read my scripts too far in advance.
I think Walt’s going to a place where he truly enjoys the empowerment that his situation has given him. And even though he knows he’s going out in a year, from lung cancer, he’s going to go out big. He’s going out big.”
Even though his cancer is currently in remission, Walter specifically said (in an episode from season 4) that it can come back at any time – and Cranston believes that time is now. With a death clock hanging around his neck and Cranston believing that Walter is going to choose to “go out big,” the speculation now becomes on how big is “big” and who else is involved.
While some may quickly dismiss this as pure speculation, one has to acknowledge that next to series creator Vince Gilligan, Cranston knows the character of Walter White better than any anyone else. And since Breaking Bad is one of the most honest narratives on television, in terms of character arcs (even if it does tend towards the fantastical from time to time), it’s a reasonable assumption that an actor of Cranston’s caliber would be able to intuit the fate of Walter Water, a character he has played for over four years.
Now there’s only one question left to ask: What does Bryan Cranston believe is going to happen to Jesse? If Walter White is going to go out big, perhaps Jesse is the one that closes the book on his longtime partner.
I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see.

Walt – Dies from cancer after winning every possible hurtle. It is the only way for him to die at the top and at the bottom, simultaneously.
Walt Jr. – Die’s in a car accident. Hopefully with Meth.
Holly – Drowns in a pool while skyler and Walter are arguing.
Skylar – Commits suicide
Marie – Death by cop. Steals money.
Hank – Haven’t figured out, but I think he is going to end up taking the fall for Heisenberg posthumously.
Grey Matter – The company in charge of Meth dstribution.
Jesse – Killed by his old partner Elliott Schwartz
Walt dies from Declan and Jessie is the marker to get him there while all this is happening hank is close on his tail the whole season is hank showing every bit of emotion on his face all the while struggling with the family man role or the swift consequence of his lawful hand knowing Vince Gillian all too well he’s already had every single idea we’ve had and Either A) said that’s to obvious or B the fans won’t like it or there’s option c) which none of us have thought of and it’s totally going to blow our minds. Ps Vince Gilligan also thought about the fade to black sopranos kinda ending and we all know how that worked out 90 %hated 10% loved he laughed though so I think and hope that was a joke

Walter will die. Jesse will take him out with the infamous “poison cigarette” because walt’s cancer will have come bad with a vengence and Jesse will not want to see Walter go the way his aunt did. A mercy-killing, if you will. Then Jesse will be the Big Dog.
Walter could come out of this pretty good. His bother-in-law is already implicated in drug money, that paid for all of his medical bills etc., He then works it out with Walter, Jesse and Skylar of how to set up and take down some Mexican drug lords/DEA hit squad (killing the Big Bad Heisenberg,)that DEA have been searching for, a long time. Grey Matter gets blown up. Jesse finds love, takes his money and left the country to be happy ever after. Skylar and Walt and family sell the car wash and move to a different State/ Country. Hank retires from the DEA and both Marie and Hank leave and move closer to Walt and his family, or not. I personally love this ending….mind you there are still a lot of what can happen in between.
I like this.
I can see Hank balking at busing Walt, too much collateral damage. Instead, he talks Walt into flipping, and breaking good on the whole meth industry. Hank becomes a big hero, Walt is sitting on enough money to buy a controlling interest in Gray Matter.
Or,,, the entire thing was dreamt up by Skyler for a novel. Walt never had cancer, Gus really is a chicken slinger, Mike is a friendly cop, Jessie is a kid at the mall. It was all just a dream, like the Wizard of Oz.

Wanted to edit, I misspelled “Busting”. I hate forums with no editing feature. Sheesh.
Or same as above except Hank takes over the car wash business for his retirement plan…we will see
Walt’s gotta get hooked on the blue, get his hands on some weapons grade uranium, build a device Hiesenburg style, blow up the Southwest, trigger WWIII, and end mankind forever.
At the beginning of season 5 you see what appears to be Walt at the age of 52 at Denny’s for his birthday. I believe that this will go one of two ways. The first possibility that I believe will happen is Hank will figure out that Walt is Heisenberg, causing Walt to switch to a new alias. In the intro of the first episode of season 5, it also shows Walt buying a high-powered firearm. This could be inferring that Walt is planning on taking back the meth business, killing anyone who wants to take it from him, possibly leading to his death.
The second possibility I thought of has Walt shutting down all of Hank’s suspicions with reasonable explanations (I personally think he will explain that Gale was an old colleague of his). Skylar will kick Walt out of the house when Walt returns to cooking meth. Jesse relapses and begin using crystal meth (and maybe heroin) again. When Jesse runs low on the 5 million Walt gives him, Jesse begins cooking again, causing competition for Walt. When Jesse takes over a large amount of Walt’s costumers, Walt confronts Jesse, threatening him if he doesn’t stop cooking (maybe even revealing that he killed Mike and poisoned Brock) causing Jesse to eliminate Walt. However, I am not sure what I think Jesse will do after each scenario.
Walt shouldn’t die; in fact, a worse fate for him would to be incarcerated…and having to teach basic science to disinterested convicts. That would bring him full circle.
It will be cancer.
In the flash forward where Walt is in the Denny’s, he is in the washroom and coughs just like when he had cancer.
