Breaking Bad Season 5 Split TV Breaking Bad Season 5 Will Air in 2012 & 2013

Check Out: ‘Breaking Bad’ Season 5 Poster – Will Jesse Dethrone Walter?

AMC has decided to split the fifth and final season of its award-winning meth drama Breaking Bad into two parts, according to star Bryan Cranston.

In a recent interview Cranston announced the news of how the new 16-episode season 5 will be set up; “We’re splitting it. We’re going to shoot the first eight, then take a four-month production break, then the rest will air next year.”

While the network has not officially declared a premiere date for Breaking Bad’s return, some of the show’s actors let it slip via Twitter that we can expect the saga of Walter White to continue in July. In regards to the much-anticipated season opener, Cranston had this to say;

We pick up right where we left off,’’ Cranston goes on to add “We’re cleaning up the pieces from last season’s huge ordeal where Gus Fring was forced to meet his maker. It’s not as easy as Walter thought. And as we’ve discovered over the years, you don’t really know who Walter White is. I’m still discovering who he is and I’m trying to allow myself to be open to him going darker and darker. There’s physical danger to himself and his family, plus there’s the emotional danger due to his anger and hubris. It’s about the evil that men do and where that takes him.

Breaking Bad Season 5 Split TV 2 Breaking Bad Season 5 Will Air in 2012 & 2013

Cranston is also expected to direct the ninth episode of Breaking Bad‘s final season, which will be the midseason opener in 2013. Cranston will dip back into comedy, in a manner of speaking, by directing the upcoming April 11th episode of ABC’s Modern Family.

A studio spokesperson has stated that the splitting of the fifth season is just one option being considered – but by the looks of it, this is more of an actual plan than something being considered.  AMC splitting up a season is nothing new, as the network has done so already with the three-month division of  season 2 of The Walking Dead. Then again,  a whole yearlong wait between halves may be a bit to excessive.

If the shows actors are correct, expect to see the fifth and final season of Breaking Bad  season 5 premiere this July.

  1. I figured after what they did with TWD and the fact it will be 16 episode season that some sort of split will happen.
But dear lord please don’t make it a year!!!
BB is far and above my favorite show ( and I watch a lot of TV) but anything more than a few months will be torture.

  2. Talk about irritating. This is similar to telling your boss he is being a total buttmunch without getting fired.

You’ve got us over a barrel here AMC. It’s your network and you can do whatever you want so and all we can do is protest these idiotic decisions. In the end though we will just have to sit there and take it.

    • really? The word “a$$” is a commonly used word even on network TV so to edit it seems a bit overly sensitive. If I had said, “jackass”, would that have been better? (because they are about the same afaik). How if I had coupled the word with “hole” I can understand but come on….

    • stop acting like a spoiled kid and just wait for the seasons to air …
if they want to split it into two parts, then there is nothing wrong with it. I bet they worked their ass off airing these seasons, if you see how much better quality the series are, so show some respect.

  3. better not make us wait another year b4 the other half of the season, that will kill me

    • The wait for a year is good. Another whole year of good dope on the street.

  4. A whole year is just stupid. Then at least make it two different seasons because if this is true, Bryan and Aaron probably won’t be elgible for the emmy’s 2013.

  5. I think this will be great, if you look at the air dates, season 1 started in January and every other season they pushed the start date back a couple months, yes this is irritating, but I think the reason is they want to take some time and do things right instead of rushing into mediocrity. Leave time for quality editing, work out the inevitable plot inconsistencies and give everyone a chance to regroup 4 months later. Maybe there is a plot reason why this happens also? Either way, I am guessing what will happen is that we will get the first 8 episodes in July, then the second 8 will air in January or early spring. We won’t have to wait a whole year, just a couple months.

    • That plot reason is a good point. Like maybe a certain someone will have to lose a few pounds in those 4 months?

  6. You will kill the buzz by spliting

  7. damn….not till july

  8. Can appreciate what you are doing by doling out episodes, but do not respect your marketing attitude nor practice. I work every day for progress and production; but impression is that you work for popularity leverage which motivates segmented and demoting recognition/ratings. Will miss your 5th season bcos family will not watch you on AMC. As Walter may say “Have it your way” before he turns the table on a hitorto predetermined outcome (read: ratings). See you in the funny papers. N.

  9. This might backfire like The Killing where they kept (and still are) fans dangling for many months. Viewership is down 33%,

  10. I love this show. I will miss it. Too bad there are so few in Hollywood
who know how to tell a story. I wish the entire cast and crew many wonderful years of post production success. Maybe they’ll be able to
teach others how to weave a tale, and we’ll finally be able to rid ourselves of the drivel that seems to permiate the airwaves lately.

  11. The Killing is down 33% because it SUCKS. The only reason people watched it last year is because it was on in the summer when there was little else on.

  12. Do we really have to wait until July until it airs!!! It’s been too long already! And then we only get 8 until next year!! I think they should run a whole season… then add another season on for next year… then maybe another season for the year after that!! I don’t want this to be the last season… and I’m far too impatient to have to wait for the second half!

  13. So … fifth and final season cat is out of the bag. Milk (a supposed) 16 episodes. Last
episodes were in 2011… That’s less than an
episode a month over two years -47 minutes of show and 13 minutes of ads. C’mon.
What the holdup? Are you making five
alternate endings for each episode in the last season? There really is no excuse is there?

  14. Don’t split it up. That is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Agreed – it just kills the buzz and the momentum. It’s really annoying when any TV show takes a long break mid-season or whatever. They get back, and you forget what was happening – as I said, the momentum is gone. If they do this, I might just wait until it’s all over and rent it on DVD.

  15. Interesting way to tell a story, those Fuking Niggrs should be lynched.

  16. I still don’t know what to make of Walter poisoning that kid with those berries. Camera zooms in on that plant pot with the label and i’m like “Oh s**t oh s**t no oh s**t…” and season 4 episode 11 was insanity

    • Walter didn’t give him the berry (or berries for that matter). Brock ate them himself… did you not watch the entire episode or something?

      • @Eli C
I have to agree with the others. The purpose of the last shot was to imply Walt in some way was the one who had Brock eat the berries.
Granted we aren’t sure yet how he got him to do it but it was Walt.

      • Eli C, are you mentally able to understand subtext? Did you see the Brock eating the berries? Did you see how Brock got the berries?
When the camera zoomed to the Lily of the Valley in Walt’s backyard, that was deliberate. It meant to show that Walt somehow got Brock to eat the berries. We’ll probably find out next season how Walt did it.

  17. are you serious?
that was the whole reason of that last shot, to show that walt was in fact responsible for poisoning brock. walt didn’t shove them in his mouth but he gave them to him.

    • WOW…For all those asking why walt poisened the kid here is the reason, which by the way was kinda obvious but whatever. He poisened him to get Jesse to turn against Gus. Remember?? Jesse thought that Gus has tried to kill the kid, and that was the final straw that made him finally turn against him in the last episode.

      • I think everyone knows that, they are just debating whether Walt actually played any part in the Brock eating the berries, which they obviously meant to imply.

  18. this sucks big time but it showed through the peek hole of the truth its just somebody’s imagination that somebody is gonna make up the story why should i wait for somebody’s crap i was good though.

  19. bad move amc. your going to turn a lot of viewrs off now that you have gravely extened the introduction of season 5. i myself am a professional movie critic and have been working in this industry for over 5 years. i strongly suggest that you start airing season 5 ASAP. i know that im not the only peosn who thinks this, my brother duke and his freinds think the same aswel.

    • For a movie critic you sure can’t spell or write cohesively. Why do you feel the need to lie? It’s unconvincing and effectively renders your opinion meaningless. Sorry, I just thought you could benefit from some constructive criticism.

      • I thought that too :)

  20. Freals, you want to draw out the LAST season and make the fans wait?? LOL, thats goning to be a fail on your part.. I -and I’m sure many others will just wait till the socond half of the season and pick it up there, or just wait and watch the entire season on on demand.

I mean damn, if I’m gonna have to wait anyway…

  21. Everyone seems to be upset about the splitting up of the final season of Breaking Bad. I too would not like it if the break was more than 3/4 months……….BUT the thing that bothers me the most is that it will be THE FINAL SEASON of Breaking Bad…..This show could easily go another 3-5 years. So many characters to develop, cancer to fight and meth to be sold…………….PUHLEAZE, reconsider.

  22. Splitting the last 16 episodes into two seasons would be very, very BAD. It would break me.

  23. We’ll see 8 shows from July through August, wait four months, then see the final 8 shows beginning January. So, it isn’t like we’re going have to wait 12 months before seeing the final 8 episodes. And don’t forget…it is 16 episodes! Remember the first season when there were 5 episodes, or the second season with 8?

I rather see the next 16 shows without interruptions. But that isn’t how things are done nowadays. All premium networks do this, and they probably do it to maximize the profits. And you know, I want the networks to make a lot of money so they will continue to make great shows like Breaking Bad.

And it gives writers and the production people more time to produce quality shows. If you don’t like it, then you can always watch those 20 episodes per season shows on the free networks. I prefer quality over quantity, and AMC can take as much time as they want. It is worth the wait.

    • Jerry, come on…..other than the Sopranos last season(20 episodes-12—–then the final 8 or was it the other way around)–what series breaks up the season like this(the Killing? isn’t it really the second year? OK maybe you could give the killing and the Walking Dead a broken up season comment. So what you are really saying is that’s the way AMC will handle it. But to say that it’s just fine is your comment.. yes, I’d rather have a broken season than none at all…..

  24. That’s how I react on splitting the season
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4knhSI3wB8&feature=player_embedded

  25. July what? let me know.

  26. I remember when series used to have 22 episodes.. I long for those days, now all series are 12-13 (Game of Thrones was only 10).

AND then they break in the middle, so you have a few months break, then like what, 8 episodes, then a couple more months, then a few more episodes?

I’m really getting sick of this. I understand that quality means that sometimes you can’t film as many episodes but this is beyond a joke. Breaking bad is good but it can’t have the production cost that something like Game of Thrones has, there is no reason why there should be so few episodes.

It feels more and more like they don’t want to write as many episodes, they don’t want to have to film as much, and we end up with fewer episodes because of it. Supernatural has 22 episodes and its still a great show (considering how many seasons it’s had) so why are so many (see 99%) of series these days only 12 episodes, on average?

I think its pretty poor, it used to be you ended up with a solid, long-running story. But now, even assuming a series makes it past the first season (which isn’t as common now) you only get 10 episodes, and 4-5 seasons so instead of 80 odd episodes to expand stories and characters you only get 40.

Honestly, with 10 episode seasons i’m not surprised shows get canceled these days. with only 10 episodes there is no time to get into characters and storylines. Either everything is rushed and crammed in and dense and hard to follow, or its shallow and vapid because its all the time you have.

I love breaking bad, but this 10ep season thing is pissing me off.

  27. Cable T.V. WAKE UP!!! …is it any surprise to the networks that T.V. is being turned OFF in more households? All the great shows like Breaking Bad are ending or being canceled to make room for mindless reality HOUSEWIVES of somewhere… (that no one with a brain watches)More people are turning to their computers for entertainment via Netflix or BBC’s Masterpiece Theater. It is a shame that we fall into the trap of investing our time to follow these great shows only to be let down by the producers or writers or whom ever has the control to pull the plug. I guess Emmy nominations mean nothing any more.
Sad to see B.B. go :(

  28. I was very happy to seek out this web-site.I wanted to thanks in your time for this wonderful learn!! I undoubtedly enjoying each little little bit of it and I have you bookmarked to take a look at new stuff you weblog post.

  29. If you’re going to split this season. And wait a year to put it out why not just call it the sixth and final season
