Cranston Breaking Bad Season 4 AMC Breaking Bad Season 4 Teaser Reveals Walters Future

After a miserably long hiatus, anticipation for season 4 of AMC’s Breaking Bad has hit an all-time high. Thankfully, the wait is almost over. In just over two weeks, the evolution of Walter White will take its next astonishing step.

Viewers have watched as three-time Emmy Award-winner Bryan Cranston has taken the once-nerdy, broke, cancer-stricken Walter White and transformed him into a burgeoning meth kingpin. And now, for what is rumored to be the penultimate season of the show, Walter White may actually be taking things down an even darker path.

In a short featurette, Cranston and the cast of Breaking Bad discuss what lies ahead for season 4 and just how far Walt is willing to go to secure his family’s future. After the events of season 3, however, it’s clear that the next question for the series will be: is family still what motivates the man Walter White has become?

One of the most intriguing things about Breaking Bad is – because of the situation in which we were introduced to Walt – the audience finds themselves rooting for a man who is, for all intents and purposes, turning into a rather ruthless criminal. As Cranston puts it, the upcoming season is about, “Walt owning this new man, accepting that he is capable of doing these heinous things that come up throughout season 4 for him to survive. There’s nothing boring about Walter White’s life now.”

See what else Cranston and the rest of the cast have to say in the featurette below:

It has been hinted that Walt’s “owning this new man” he has become, means to engage in an all-out war with drug lord and chicken purveyor Gustavo ‘Gus’ Fring (Giancarlo Esposito). Whether this is actually the case — we’ll just have to wait and see. As Esposito states in the promo, “All I can say is just wait and watch and hang on to the edge of your seat… because it’s coming. All of it’s coming.”

Of course, Walt couldn’t have even started down the road he’s on if not for his increasingly reluctant partner, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul). Once a low-level meth dealer with delusions of grandeur, Pinkman’s journey has almost become the antithesis of White’s. According to Paul, season 4 finds his character in a “very dark, sad, distant place.” It will be interesting to see where the relationship between White and Pinkman stands come the season’s end.

Despite the frenetic ride that Cranston and Paul find their characters on, the writers of Breaking Bad always find room to develop the supporting characters – many of whom are completely in the dark about the man Walt is now. Betsy Brandt, who plays Marie, Walt’s kleptomaniac sister-in-law, and wife to former DEA agent Hank Schrader, teases that her character will finally have a larger role in this season.

Frankly, Brandt’s character deserves the opportunity to explain why – in a program populated by drug dealers and murderers – she comes off as the most unlikable one.

Breaking Bad season 4 premieres July 17 on AMC.
