The ongoing stand-off between Walter, Jesse, and Gus will reach its breaking point tonight, in the Breaking Bad season 4 finale.
After last Sunday’s shocking episode found the one-time partners in crystal meth cookery putting their disagreements behind them in order to kill the would-be drug kingpin, Gus is going to have to watch his back now more than ever.
Following Walter’s (Bryan Cranston) failed attempt at killing Gus (Giancarlo Esposito) with an improvised car bomb, the pair soon realize that it’s not going to be easy to take down their former boss.
Fortunately, Walter and Jesse (Aaron Paul) aren’t going to have to go up against Gus on their own. Thanks to the ever-helping hand of Saul (Bob Odenkirk), the duo adds a surprise co-conspirator to help in their efforts.
Review
The masterfully executed Breaking Bad season 4 finale perfectly balances the series’ beautifully methodical character development with an abundance of remarkably shocking resolutions that not only exceed all lofty expectations, but also serves to drive audiences to ponder what’s next.

Continuing where last week’s episode left off, the visibly shaken Walter White leads the charge of his and Jesse’s revolution against the power that once controlled them. Two men, who were once sure of themselves and their place in the manic world in which they live, are now forced to not only endure the result of their chosen lives, but are also required to redefine their morality – all for the purpose of surviving.
Forced to seek help outside of his familiar confines, Walter leads the charge in attempt to accomplish the duo’s predetermined goal of killing Gus by aligning himself with his former enemy, Hector Salamanca. An agreed-upon plan between Hector and Walter, which is not revealed until the finale’s final moments, serves to brilliantly highlight Vince Gilligan’s intentions of putting the characters (and their stories) before any superfluous reveal forced by the need to placate impatient viewers.
Like the perfectly played game of chess that this series has always shown itself to be, Gilligan once again serves to elevate the unfortunate (but often expected) need for swift resolutions, by instead revealing the beauty and suspense behind each and every decision and action the characters are forced to make.

From Hector painfully spelling out his wishes with a grid, to Jesse being tirelessly questioned about the poisoning of Brock, to Walter patiently watching his plan unfold from afar, Gilligan is resolute in his intentions to wonderfully convey the fact that it is the characters that should drive a series, and not the eventual outcome. A conclusion will happen – no matter what. By focusing the choices that the characters make, the effect that these choices have, and reveling in journey that these choices take each character on, it ultimately presents a more earnest conclusion, when one does eventually occur.
And, for all intents and purposes, one could say that all of the conclusions that viewers have been waiting for since the beginning of Breaking Bad have been presented. The demise of Gus, both beautiful and shocking, was as rewarding as it was tragic. Continuing the series’ earned track record of always expecting the unexpected, it was not until the final moments of Gus straightening his tie that the reality of what occurred was revealed and, ultimately, set it.
A fitting end for a beloved foe, no doubt. Though, the celebratory death of Walter and Jesse’s greatest threat was quickly retorted with a contemplative thought from Jesse: “He needed to die, right?” For what all transpired, for the threats to their lives, for all the turmoil that Gus caused – he needed to die, right?

While it may have been true that Gus did, indeed, need to die, it was amazingly revealed that the puppet master behind this decision, behind forcing the hand of everyone involved, was Walter. Secretly poisoning Brock to lure Jesse into his calculated plan and unwittingly coaxing Hector into sacrificing his life to kill an enemy, Walter quickly became the man that he feared most – a man who not only decided the best decision for himself, but also forced others into believing that it was the best for them, as well.
So, while the majority all expected resolutions may have occurred, the one unexpected resolution – the one that was staring us all in the face, from the very beginning, still remains: Walter White. From the beginning of the series, Walter has continued to traverse a dark and mysterious path – all while attempting to present a morally sound conviction. Though it may have taken this long to fully reveal itself, the intentions of Walter White are now apparently clear.
With sixteen episodes left before Breaking Bad comes to an end, the story about the man that is Walter White is what waits for us – as it always has. Despite conquering a powerful enemy and reassuring his family that “it’s all over”, the man that Walter White has now become is not something he can simply walk away from.

This is a great show, no doubt about it. But it SHOCKS me to read some comments stating that this is THE best show ever… WOW! Just WOW! Haven’t you see the Sopranos??!?!?! That is THE. BEST. M*******ING. SHOW. EVER. Period. No questions asked.
So anybody noticed at the end when Walt and Jessy are talking on that parking lot roof, it cuts to a shot from inside the patking lot watchibg through a window and you can hear breathing. Who is that? Mike?
That’s what I was wondering.
I dont think it was breathing, it sounds like a cars tires “screeching” in the parking lot
..I suppose YOU haven’t seen Deadwood! Because obviously that is the best show on TV ever!
On instinct, I agree with you, but then again, the shows are too different to compare. Breaking bad is action, tension, unexpected twists, a “thrill of the chase” type show, while Sopranos is a genre-hopping tale of total sociopaths. Some say the last few seasons of Sopranos sucked, but I disagree, for me they made the whole show
Sopranos was a fine show, but NOT the best. Did you guys even bother to watch The Wire? Made Sopranos look weak. Seriously. Watch the first season, and see if you don’t agree. Deadwood was good, but not better than Sopranos or Breaking bad. Dexter is actually better than Breaking Bad too. Surprised that name didn’t arise.
I bothered to watch the Wire. Very good but not as good as the Sopranos or OZ or Breaking Bad. The Sopranos, OZ, Deadwood and breaking Bad all improved through the seasons. The Wire did not and had a tendancy to cast criminals as `victims` of circumstances rather than choice which
got to be tedious in the later serious.
People will argue about which is the best but Dexter better than Breaking Bad????-
How in any way? By what metrics? Dexter stories are boring and the acting? There are some good actors in it but when are they ever stretched-their talents are wasted.
Breaking Bad has risen to be the best TV show ever. My metrics:
Acting: superb and even the Emmy`s agree; Walter, Jessie, Sal, Gus, Tuuko, Mike, Hector (using only his facial expressions and his finger on a bell)!
Storyline: Brilliant, full of dark humour. N other show has created such dramatic tension.
Cinematography/sound, unexpected angles, use of music and ground breaking scenes.
@ poopie…
Breaking Bad is no doubt quality drama, but i just don’t understand why people love it this much. It says on metacritic that the season is 96 out of 100, and IMO the first 6 or 7 episodes were solid but not spectacular. Things got interesting towards the end but even the finale slightly underwhelmed me. I was waiting for this big shocking twist but it never happened- sure i didn’t expect Hector to blow Gus’ face off, but you knew that Walter had planned something. And the final shot annoys me, because i was told that the final scene of the season was spectacular. All it implies is that Walter poisoned a kid. It would have mad emore sense if Brock had died.
In regards to Dexter, sure season 6 was a step down, but it’s final scene was completely unexpected. And in season 4 i feel that throughout the 12 episodes it was consistently brilliant- far better than season 4 of breaking bad. Gus was a good villain, but nowhere near as intimidating as Trinity- i mean, that scene where Trinity walks right into the Miami metro was the most brilliant thing i’ve ever seen on TV.
One last thing: whilst season 4 was good it was more sporadically spectacular- some great moments but it wasn’t brilliant throughout. In terms of endings, the ending of season 3 (when Jesse shot Gale) was far better than season 4- i still think that’s where they could improve. Comparing the endings of season 4 Dexter and season 4 Breaking Bad- Dexter find his wife dead in a bath tub, and it’s implied that Walter may have poisoned a small child (who incidentally is going to be fine.)
Ron Moore’s reimagined Battlestar Galactica was head and shoulders above any TV show……….ever
my only question is, if it was the flower that poisoned brock, what happened to jesse’s ricin cigarette?
Walt got Huelle (Saul Goodman’s henchman) to swap cigarette packages when he was frisking him in the previous episode.
Chances are that Walt knew that Jesse would check for the cigareete and warn the doctors about the poison.
He probably poisoned Brock with Lily of the Valley instead of ricin because it could be passed as an accident on Brocks part, and it also is not as toxic as ricin
I suppose one other unanswered question is who was Gus before Chile. When he originally met with the Cartel, Don Eladio implied he was a very powerful man.
i totally agree…that was the one question that i keep asking myself…who was gus in chile…who??
I think the biggest issue is the broken contract of the supply of meth.
With no one producing the meth a lot of heavy hitters are going to come gunning.
That will open up all kinds of possibilities of interesting developments and characters/villains.
And once Hank finds out about Walt I think there will be more of a scenario where they have to stick together and survive than Hank merely turning him over to the DEA.
The story has made no sense since the third season. Gus is supposed to be this mastermind who plans to kill walter, so what does he do? He lets his victim know what he plans to do by taking him to the desert and threatens to kill his family. Why? That scene was at odds with everything we learned about Gus. Walter being an accomplice could not have gone to the police. Why didn’t Gus just let walter know that he was fired and let it go at that? Having decided to kill walter the smart thing to do would have been to pretend to let bygones be bygones and act when the victim least expected it. Gus’s make up after the bomb explosion almost made me forget the lousy scripts of the past two seasons.
This whole season has been a struggle of power between Gus and Walter. Gus lets Walter know that he will take care of Hank to show Walter that he is in control and there is nothing he can do about it. It’s only after Walter asks ‘what if I don’t stay away from Jesse,’ that Gus then threatens the rest of his family. Walter is well aware that Gus is using Jesse as a pawn against him, and that in order to win this game with Gus, he must do the same. Although you may chalk it up to bad writing, this season has had great character development. Throughout this season we’ve seen Walter in a losing corner and much to Gus’ surprise, Walter comes out on top in the end. Gus sees that Walter is a man in way over his head and he tells Walter, at his weakest, what he plans on doing and takes away his job and partner. Even someone as smart as Gus wasn’t able to foresee the hand that Walter would play, and that’s what made this season so great. Walter is the underdog that comes out on top and in turn becomes a more villainous character. He uses Jesse and even Gus’ own enemy against him to win this game. As the season progresses, Walter wants the power and recognition (e.g. the drunk dinner conversation) and although he says everything he does is for his family, he wants more than anything to not be weak in the face of others.
How have the last two seasons been bad writing? Just because Gus told Walt what he would do if Walt didn’t go away? He only told him he’d go after his family because Walt questioned Gus’s demands. It’s pretty straight forward.
As far as writing goes, Breaking Bad has the best writers on TV right now, I dare you to list a show that outshines Breaking Bad.
I was sad to see no last scene of Walt defending his life in his underwear.
Are you guys serious? Watch “End Times” from last week where Walt is spinning the hand gun. It points to him first, telling him suicide. Then he spins it 3 more times and it lands at the exact same plant that was shown at the very end of the episode… in Walt’s backyard.
Walt knew that the berrys from that plant would not kill Brock. He knew that it would put him in a very serious condition, but Walt planned 10 steps ahead, just like he said to Jesse when Jesse almost killed Walt. Walt said “Who else do you know that harms children? who KILLS children??” and when he said this, he convinced Jesse that Gus poisoned Brock, when it was actually Walt the entire time, just not with Ricen.. but with the berrys he used. By doing this he setup everything perfectly and got Gus killed.
If you seriously dont realize that Walt used the berrys on Brock then you are …… not too bright. The very last shot of the episode is the plant in his own backyard, plus the foreshadowing from earlier.
Who cares if Walt poisoned Brock? Awful writing. Where were the “eyes” on Walt in the past two episodes? Gus never failed to do that before? Now, Walt is just running around, poisoning a kid close to Gus’s main cook (Jesse) and switching cigarette packs?
Not only was it silly writing but it was done with the wrong path in mind. Even though Walt is a brilliant chemist, by no means, was he any sort of mastermind that could compete against Gus.
Gus did have eyes on Walt. Go back and watch. He had his head crony watch him as he
Went to Hank’s house and he had two henchmen keep watch on his house (they almost caught him if you remember). Maybe you don’t agree with the outcome but “Awful Writing”? AWFUL? Seriously?
Also you’re making conjecture based upon what and who YOU think Walt is rather than what
the show has very clearly stated: Walt has become a mastermind.
“Awful writing” that’s just comically ridiculous.
If you seriously believe Walt poisoned Brock you must not be used to how these excellent writers have become masters of leading us down a path only to find out later it was all a set up to suprise with a shocking twist. Have you forgotten the fact that the two henchman were seen coming out of Walts backyard?
One GLARING clue as to what will happen in the next season was right in front of everyone but I have yet to read any comments about it. What is the last thing Gus does before leaving the restaurant for the last time? Laptop. Surveillance footage. Hard drive. How much footage of Walt must there be of Walt in the chicken restaurant on Gus’ laptop just waiting to be exploited in season 6?
No one else has noticed this. How about the cameras in the lab reclrding Walt and Jesse?
Mike will come back and play a roll in this. Maybe blackmail because he is “getting too old for this s***” type of storyline?

Brilliant job by all. Looking forward to season five, and hopefully I will be in it. : )
season 5??? i really dont know what they’re gonna do with season 5… the only possible thing that would allow the show the keep it’s persona of brilliance is if season 5 was all about the aftermath of the downfall of gus’ business and what happens to hanks investigation into heisenburg, but otherwise i would be happy that that leave the whole thing as it is and not continue it for another season. i fear one more season could easily be one season too many, but with good writing i can see one more season being pulled off. I’d just hate to see it become like dexter where its now in it’s 6th season, season 6 so far looks terrible in comparison to the previous seasons…
This is one of the greatest tv series ever made. Walt & Pinkman are exceptional in their portrayal. But the character which is the most amazing is of Saul Goodman. Can’t wait for the next season, please air it sooner.
Better than anything else on television. Nuff said.
Great TV SHOW ! just incredible end but saying its the best show on tv at the moment ? anyone else seen Dexter incredible that said it is an incredible show and cant wait for season 5 and the action packed end to it all!
I was very disappointed with the finale to Season 4. Walt had “won” plenty of times already and has done nothing but toss it away every time with his own arrogance, jeopardizing himself and his family. He’s not a good guy by any means, not to mention I can’t see one redeemable quality about him.
Gus, on the other hand, brought much more to the story and had every right to kill Walt. Gus’s backstory with the Cartel was the most interesting part of Season 4.
The poisoning of Brooke’s son? The switched cigarette pack by Sal’s henchman? Walt’s anticipation of Jesse coming to kill him? These were all so far fetched it’s disgusting.
Gus dying at the hands of Walt, what a joke!!
You do realize that that is the whole point of the series right?
In the begining, we really felt bad for Walt, he’s a teacher who works on a low salary, and just found out he has Cancer, he’s going to be forced to pay crazy medical bills and probably be out of teaching on and off frequently.
By the end of the series though, we’re supposed to hate Walt, to root for everyone other than him. You are supposed to be secretly rooting for Gus, and hoping that somehow Walt is taken out so that his family and friends can move on.
Keep in mind that this is a fictional show, not reality tv, so the plan that he made with giving Brock the flower makes sense in the context of the show.
I think that it was very obvious that walt killed gus. Im not sure about switching cig packs but look in his backyard! He had the plant. also the reasons you listed was what made the show that great. the writers want you to feel antipathy towards the protagonist while feeling empathy for a cold blooded antagonist. They play with your emotions and WANT you to feel the ways you feel. Gus is supposed to be liked. Everyone liked him. But it is shown that he “had” to be killed. it was the only way walt and jesse could survive. but the part where walt tried to poison brock was obviously on purpose.
How did Walt poison Brock? In every episode prior, Gus had his guys watching Walt every step of the way. In the last two episodes of Season 4, Walt is running around and giving poison berries to little kids associated with Gus’s main cook (Jesse)? So Gus had nobody watching Jesse, right?
How ridiculously convenient for Walt!!
So the writers chose to kill off the smart mastermind (Gus) at the hands of a disgruntled prick (Walt) who deserved to die. I’ve followed Breaking Bad for every episode now, but there is nothing that makes me want to watch Season 5 now.
James, Walt was a genius. Gus was a good drug kingpin. Gus Got in wayyy over his head by trying to use the cartel to advance his drug orginization north. He should never have used the cartel. that was his mistake, proving he was no genius, just some drug kingpin way to eager to control more territory. He was supposedly succesful in chili so he did not need the cartel to move forward. he made a big mistake and got his best friend killed because of it. The cartel would never drink a gift without having it tested. especially if the cartel boss knew there must be lingering hard feelings, due to the murder of his “brother” That scene was cool, but didnt show gus as intelligent, just lucky that the cartel was stupid. especially when gus muscle told him not to kill the old guy, but let muscle do it. gus refused and got himself killed.
Then don’t …. nobody will care.
I’m def. going to watch it though… best show on tv.
man… that last scene of gus, looking to be allright and then falling to the ground, reaminded me the fight between adebisi and said on OZ. after the hidden knife fight, adebisi walk out, smiles his remarkable smile and spits blood and fall to the ground. i was shocked the same way this time.
With all of the serious things going on, I loved the humor that the writers constanly inserted. My favorite was how for so long Walt could never get the new windshield glue dry enough to remove the blue tape before breaking it AGAIN!! Then when he does not replace it after the debris from the plane explosion, he ends up maced by a police officer. Too funny!!
The magnetic pipe bomb in the baby bag getting stuck to the elevator door made me bust a gut. LOVE the humor and writing. GREAT SHOW!
Season finale was great and I loved the way they closed the story on Gus. To me it looks like next season will have a whole new plot and story and I think it will focus around Walter both getting caught and dying from cancer.
These past few seasons have shown Walter go down further and further and further to the dark side, but in this episode Walter took it to the next level- poisoning a child for his own benefit.
The last memory we all had about Walter for the season is that he is a horrible person and I think that is the way the writers wanted to end the season.
Next season the fans will now want to see Walter condemned and punished for all the bad that he has done and I think that is what we are going to get.
The one thing that I want is for someone to get away with- ideally Jesse. Hopefully Walter can convince Jesse to leave the life of drug dealing behind for good and to move on to a better and more legal/ethical way of life
I honestly don’t get all the people saying that “Walter should be punished” etc… If anything I would like him to become “the boss”. I hate shows/movies where “the good guys always come up on top and the bad guys get what they deserve” You know what bad guys deserve? they deserve to f***ing win! They have the balls, they have the initiative. All “good guys” do is play by the rules and wait for justice to do its thing… Really? Is that how the world works? Last time I checked one had to be tough and relentless to get things going… Anyway, I honestly hope they get the picture clear and end the series “well” (that is: Walter becoming the kingpin, Jesse MAYBE helping him out and for the love of god, make Walter kill both nerve wrecking whores (his wife and her sister) or AT LEAST divorce her and let her take that retard-who-thinks-he-is-somebody they have for a son with her…
Very good series. It could just have ended this way. But 16 episodes… Hell yeah I’m going to watch that.
does anyone know what happend to Ted the guy with the tax problem, i know he fell but is it just me or did they never explain what happend to him. and skylar knows nothing about it?
First off, Ted is Dead.
The falling of the Oranges was from old mafia movies, means you dead.
Oranges fell on him after he broke his neck.
I am still irritated that they actually sent the 600k to the gov’t screw that he is dead, write the check to cash.
I know that the Ricen Cig will come back to haunt someone, or else we see the cig pack in the safe of Saul.
Or funnier and sicker is that somehow Skyler sneaks a Cig while in Saul’s office and tries to smoke it.
Kinda writing my own script now, it is fun to imagine what these characters could do.
They HAD to do that. Not paying off the government over half a million dollars tends to raise questions that Skyler could not afford to have asked much less even thought about. Ted dying and not paying off the government would have been even WORSE.
Ted clearly broke his neck. Thats what Saul was going to call skyler about before Walt came flying into his office looking for the number of the guy who could give him and his family a new life.
I have some other thoughts.
Also Jessie has his buddies, what will they play, just being junkies, or do they go back to racking up dealers?
The streets will be getting dry fast.
Who will step in to supply 200 pounds of meth a week?
Does Walt had a comprehensive plan? (aka is he getting like Gus and thinking of everything)
Is there an alternate cook site already built?
Will it come out that Gus was going to give Walt a second chance at the alternate cook site?
(aka stating that it was all a mistake, better to live fat on cash and protected under Gus than out in the open all alone)
What will Jessie girlfriend do, is she a mole put there by the cartel, it was all to easy for her to get close to him.
It is not the first time a girl has choosen to play Jessie.
Will the Cartel try to get it all back for themselves or cut a deal with Walt to supply the existing chain?
Will someone from Chile or Germany step up?
Has Walt found a way to get even deeper in over his head?
Loved the episode. It definitely showed however that they were prepared for the series to end if they were not renewed.
My only question now is……where do they go from here? Seems all of the major plot lines have been cleaned up and Jesse and Walt are out of Jobs. What now?
Great Finale! Did not disappoint, did see the method of Gus’ death coming, but didn’t mind that. Can’t wait for next season!! Hope Hank and Walt’s family have more screen time the next season, and Walt and Jesse are back together.
Hey Dexterfan here too–basically the only other show I feel is the best on cable. I think Breaking Bad is one of the best shows ever written. I do dislike the Walter gone really bad thing and have mixed feelings on the poisoning of Brock. Did he know he would not die? Other than that I think it was a brilliant and mind-bending finale. Cannot imagine what is next? Now the long wait.
“I do dislike the Walter gone really bad thing and have mixed feelings on the poisoning of Brock. Did he know he would not die?”
Just as the title of the show implies, Walter is slowly turning into the villain. He isn’t supposed to be likeable by the end.
“Just as the title of the show implies, Walter is slowly turning into the villain. He isn’t supposed to be likeable by the end.”
AMEN! I’m tired of all these people not liking “Bad Walt”. Seriously? Have you been watching the show?
Walt IS bad. How many people has he killed? Bodies disposed of? Meth-heads created? People manipulated?
The whole series is about how a mild mannered family man becomes a villainous drug lord. Get with it folks.
AMC just air all 16 episodes at one shot, don’t do this BS of airing 8 in 2012 and the other 8 in 2013
the final episode was just brilliant, finding out about how it was WALTER who poisoned the kid BLEW MY MIND. I suppose he didn’t know whether or not the kid would die but he knew it would spark jesse to come after him. anyway, i’m in two minds about the thing with Gus after the explosion; I thought it was really cool and really gave Gus’ brilliant character and the actor who plays him a proper ending but really it didn’t fit into the whole breaking bad atmosphere. He should have been shown just on the floor in there with his limbs ripped off or something, there’s no way anybody could just walk out after having been hit right in the face by such an immense explosion.
OVERALL THOUGH BRILLIANT SERIES! I don’t think they could make a 5th season unless it was about the aftermath of the downfall of gus’ business or hank’s investigation into heisenburg etc. Walt and jesse have parted ways as shown by the hand shake at the end, walt has no purpose to cook anymore, his family has money for after he dies which was the initial problem he set out to find a quick fix for.
I can’t wait until season 5 is shown and all you haters are at a loss for words… this show has proven more than enough times that it has the balls and talent to blow our minds… get off your high horse bs and give credit where it’s due.
Best show ever.(period)
I loved it. I don’t love that Walt poisoned Brock, but hey…it’s not called Breaking Good for a reason. At the same point and time, If it was you, your family and life at stake. Wouldn’t you do some unsavory things to protect them. Sure, Walt, Walt Jr., Holly, and Skylar were safe if Walt walked away, but Hank and Marie weren’t. And that’s still family. I think Walt, like always was in over his head, and did the only thing he could to get at Gus. He used Jesse, and while I’m not sure I liked it. It was one, if not the best, of only a few awful options he had.
SEASON 5:
I’d like to see season 5 and the series culminate in Walt coming clean with 1)Jesse. Clearing that air. Maybe even saving his life again. Proving that he does care for him. Think about when he’s beat up and drugged up and Walt Jr. comes over. Walt is crying, he’s sorry, he’s a mess. He loves Jesse on some level. Like a big brother more than a father, but Jesse on some level returns that love. He won’t let Mr. White die. Never once did he give his ok for Gus to kill him. They have always been reluctant allies. And their need for each other has always been this awesome subtle foundation for their partnership. Jesse wants that fatherly approval. He wants Mr. White to look out for him, and to validate him, but he doesn’t understand why, or isn’t ok with that making him less of a man. But most us guys understand it. Daddy issues and so on. Not being good enough. Walt OWES this to Jesse now. Time for Walt to reevaluate who he’s become…and fix his messes.
2) There is now a dry market left in Gus’ wake. But I think we’re ALL over looking on very important detail.
Jesse and Walt are free. Only they know the recipe for Walt’s Blue. And now the superlab is gone. . . where ever should they cook 200lbs of meth a week? A new Winnebago you say? nah! How about under a sparkling, ever busy, newly purchased CARWASH!? lol. They can still ship chemicals there. They can work undetected. And what’s best? Walt is supposed to be there any way. Not to mention they still have Saul. Which means they can contact Mike, which means they can get in touch with ALL of Gus’ old contacts to start resupplying the ABQ with that sweet sweet blue.
3) Hank. Hank has to break the case on Walt, and when he does…i really want him to side with Walt. Start sharing that money, and being their buffer between the DEA and them. Think about that. A great showdown between Walt and Hank ending with them teaming up to create the most well rounded Drug Empire in the American Southwest. All under the unassuming roof of a carwash bought with money from a gambling addiction. and your DEA brother in law is running support and intel from inside the DEA…sounds like a win win win to me. But we’ll have to wait and see.
Sorry for the long winded review/hypothesis just LOVE this show, and want to see what you guys think about my theories and hopes for it!
Gus was simply a manager backed by a multinational.
Just as the mafia once, long ago, controlled gambling – corporations took it all over. Gus presented his plan to interested parties and was only then emboldened to take on the Cartel with their blessing and limited support.
Drugs are controlled in this country by those who allow it’s distribution for their ‘cut’. You make allot of money and someone in power will want their cut to either protect you or ‘allow’ you to continue.
Now that naive Walter has ‘won’ he has not only disrupted a revenue stream he has murdered their most capable & proven ‘manager’ (the goose that laid the golden egg – i.e. cut out the Cartel).
Mike, who was both enforcer / helper to Gus, was also liaison to ‘those in real power’ behind the scenes reporting and protecting their interests while keeping them removed from any connection – always part of the ‘deal’ for their backing and funding (going back to rome). His ex-cop / ex-military etc background means that he is both soldier and supervisor.
Maybe when he squeals to his owners he won’t say Walt is cut out to manage but Walt still is the master cook. However – Walt’s wife on the other hand has shown prudent, cautious business skills. It’s all about a steady revenue stream nothing more. If your Sadam Hussien messing with oil prices – then you gotta go. In other words the wealthy like steady markets.
So it looks like Walt is in for a whole new level of responsibility come next season. And if mike doesn’t keep him on a short leash then the crooked cops in that DEA division, who already knew who Gus really was, will.
I think it will have to end withhank finding out its walt as one of the final scenes.
I cant see hank working with walt unless its for safety not money.
Or cancer
hanging 4 it either way

I think the next season might involve the people who were helping Gus make all the money. The big German conglomerate that sold the equipment for the lab that has all the small business ventures. It has been mentioned a few times in the show and the company lawyered up when hank was investigating them. I think there will be more Gus level people tied into this and the fact it was all blown up will make the group whoever they are look into it. I do not think walt and jesse are out of the woods… probably just got in deeper. Also Mike, Saul the DEA and Walt is broke.
