There’s been almost nothing to report with regards to The Hangover Part III, since Warner Bros. confirmed that the threequel was indeed on the way – though, anyone who noted that the second Hangover movie made over $580 million worldwide in theaters (on an $80 million budget) could’ve told you as much.
The Hangover Part II hits DVD and Blu-ray this week, so franchise star Bradley Cooper has been out promoting the occasion. Naturally, he’s been pressed for (and had obliged with) details about the next adventure concerning The Wolfpack.
Hangover series director Tod Phillips has previously said that Part III is not only going to be a trilogy concluder; it will also deviate from the narrative format used in the previous two films (re: The Wolfpack gets totally smashed one night and has to pick up the pieces the next morning). Cooper, while on the Graham Norton Show, reiterated that claim and also revealed both the current status of the third Hangover flick and its tentative production state date/setting.
Here, to quote, is what the actor had to say:
“I hope we’re going start shooting in September . I know Todd Phillips is working on the script. We adhered to the formula in the second [‘Hangover’ movie], [and] the third would close the trilogy. I think it’ll take place in L.A. and not adhere to the structure, it might be different.”

It sounds as though (as has been expected all along) the Hangover threequel is being set up to hit theaters in 2013, ie. two years after Part II was released and four years after the first movie. Additionally, Cooper’s comments do nothing to suggest that co-star Zach Galifianakis’ previous claims about the possible plot of Hangover Part III were inaccurate.
While Hangover Part II did indeed make a bundle in theaters, there was many a moviegoer who saw the film and walked away highly unimpressed, feeling as though they’d just sat through a virtual clone of the original Hangover flick (albeit, without the inspired humor and charm of its predecessor). So, taking that into consideration, the news of a new installment that tries harder to mix things up should go over better.
Lastly – one can only imagine the sort of dangerous characters and ridiculous situations The Wolfpack could encounter while running mad (and, probably, intoxicated) around the City of Angels. It goes without saying, Part III could easily be as madly-inspired as the original, all the more so because of its different plot template…
We will continue to keep you posted on the status of The Hangover Part III as more information is released.
