Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie Both Joining ‘The Counselor’?

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie The Counselor Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie Both Joining The Counselor?

What’s sad about this is that the headline above is likely to attract more attention to the upcoming crime-thriller The Counselor than the fact that it is the first script by award-winning author Cormac McCarthy – arguably one of the best American authors alive today. Just shows you where we’re at in our society…

But I digress.

Recently we reported that Angelina Jolie was looking to join The Couselor, though likely in a cameo role. Now comes word that the superstar actress’ beau, Brad Pitt, could also be joining the film (as was previously rumored), marking the first time the celebrity powercouple has shared the screen since Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005.

The Counselor has led a short but very charmed life in the production pipeline. McCarthy (author of bestsellers like The Road and No Country for Old Men) surprised everyone (certainly his agents) when his latest opus turned out to be a screenplay described ‘No Country for Old Men on steroids.’ Since then Ridley Scott has signed on to direct, Micahel Fassbender (X-Men: First Class) is starring, and Natalie Portman is attached to play one of two lead female roles.

No Country for Old Men star Javier Bardem was circling a villain role, and Deadline reports that he and Pitt could both be signing deals soon. Stay tuned.

The film deals with a Lawyer (Fassbender) who tries to get into the drug game without getting dirty, and ultimately ends up getting insanely dirty. Imagine Sean Penn’s character in Carlito‘s Way mixed with that chainsaw bathroom scene in Scarface and you’ll have something of an idea about McCarthy’s writing, which often explores the light and (very) dark sides of human nature and tends to be very violent.

In short, this is a movie to keep your eye out for. And if Pitt and Jolie both end up in the cast, you can be sure the masses will be doing just that – nevermind the milestone of it being the first story for the screen by a master American writer… Brangelina could be in it!

As always, we’ll keep you updated on the status of The Counselor.

  1. That’s sexy

  2. Cool.

  3. I have to say that even if the cast was full of unknowns I’ll still be on line to see this the day it opens.
Like Kofi mentions in the article McCarthy is one of the best American authors there is.
No Country is both one of my favorite books and films of all time. And The Road may not be a great film IMO but the novel is a must read and whenever I’m asked for a recommendation of something it’s at the top of the list. Not that I’m asked a lot but on the rare occasion I am.
As far as who’s been cast so far I think it’s obviously a strong group and I won’t object to Pitt in much of anything.
Jolie is a different story though. I’m not her biggest fan. I can remember 3 of her films that I can say I really liked. Changeling, Wanted and Girl Interrupted. Other than that I think she’s kind of over rated.

  4. take pitt out and this will be the best movie of all time.
