Buried in a story about Universal Studios’ strategy to re-invigorate itself is a mention that there will be a fourth film in the Bourne series.
The Bourne trilogy has been been extremely popular and profitable for Universal and is one of the bright spots in their financial ledger. As pointed out by /Film, the trilogy has grossed over $945 million worldwide with the last movie, The Bourne Ultimatum responsible for about half that total.
The existing three films have exhausted the original source material - novels written by Robert Ludlum, but there are two additional stories that have been penned by Eric Van Lustbader (how’s that for a cool name?): The Bourne Legacy , and The Bourne Betrayal. Unfortunately if you head on over to Amazon.com you’ll find a lower opinion of the non-Ludlum novels than of the original three.

I think that just because the later novels are weaker that doesn’t necessarily mean the screenplays won’t be good. Just as it’s possible to take amazing source material and destroy it on the big screen, I think an excellent writer could take a weak story and turn it into a great film.
Both director Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon have committed to returning for a fourth Bourne film despite both having said they’re done with the series.

Well, i’m on my own (probably) in saying:
The other three were bad enough, let sleeping dogs lie.
Even if I had liked the previous movies this would still be a bad idea. Create a new series of movies!
Only the very first Bourne film can even claim to have been a “loose” adaptation of the novel. And since the next two in the trilogy could lay no such claim, it really doesn’t matter whether there is additional “source” book material for the Bourne film franchise, because they ignored Ludlum’s material anyways.
Never been a fan of these films.
Never could get past Matt Damon in this action series.
I’m sure he pulled it off due to the success of the films but I’ve never been a fan of him or these films.
I thought all three of the films were excellent. I really enjoyed the 3rd one though. I was going to buy the trilogy box set on DVD, but if they’re going to make another one (which I don’t think they should do), I may wait. Besides, doesn’t Matt have all his time filled up taking care of Sarah Silverman?? hehehehe

Very funny Indiana Jones bit and the opening with Dennis Hopper was priceless.
At least both those titles are kick-ass.
Nothing like Quantum of Bourne, or Cloverbourne, or Meet the Bournes, or Bourne Movie.

Up until this news, they’ve both stated that they would not be doing another “Bourne” film.

I think it’s a comedy bit, but it really is very funny. It’s definitely PG-13 because they bleep it out, but here are the links to the first video and Kimmel’s response. Vic, if this is inappropriate, I totally understand if you remove it, but it DID air on national TV…(and it’s funny as hell, too.)

Kimmel and Silverman have been together for a long time. She’s not the kind that would run off with Damon.
There both comedians and very trusting of each other. This has got to be a gag.
Yes, it is a joke; Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel are both comedians. It’s the kind of thing they do.
Glad to hear I’m not the only one who didn’t think Bourne Identity was the greatest action movie of all time. I just couldn’t get into it, and I didn’t find much reason to check out the next two. Maybe I’m missing something spectacular; I’m not losing sleep over it.
I allways felt they cast Damon because it would bring in a larger female audience.
I just allways felt this franchise was mis-cast with Damon. I could see this with a different actor just not Damon. He has too much of a babyface and its just too much to suspend disbelief.

Steve, how can you even comment on Damon being mis-cast for the role if you’ve never even seen the films??? Too young? He’s 37!! I mean c’mon, do we want all our action movies to have senior citizens as the main characters??? I thought Jason Bourne was the best character that Damon ever played.

I watched some of the second film.. About 15 min. Also I’ve seen enough in the trailers of these films to say “that’s a craptacular rippoff of 24 and JACK BAUER..
