Seth MacFarlane may have his critics, but there's little point in denying that the man who created Family Guy and American Dad has established himself a highly-marketable brand both on television and the big screen.

Despite Ted earning over $500 million worldwide (and a sequel on the way), it looks like MacFarlane is determined to balance both his television and film projects. In addition to Family Guy and American Dad, he has only new live-action comedy Dads on Fox, as the network has reportedly opted not to renew The Cleveland Show (its lead will be re-introduced on Family Guy). Now it looks like the always-busy MacFarlane is taking on yet another series for the network.

Fox has ordered 13 episodes of Bordertown, a new animated series from MacFarlane and Mark Hentemann. The show centers on two families living in a fictional desert town near the border between the United States and Mexico. Hentemann and MacFarlane will executive produce with Alex Carter (Family Guy) and Dan Vebber (American Dad).

american dad has been renewed for a 7th season by Fox

The series' two leads are neighbors Bud Backwald – a Border Patrol agent and father of three threatened by the cultural changes in his town, and Ernesto Gonzales, a Mexican immigrant and family man happy to be in America. Of course, their paths cross, and hilarity ensues.

Like previous MacFarlane productions, Bordertown sounds like it will rely largely on stereotype and shock value to provide a satirical look at modern America. To be fair though, the series does appear to be Hentemann's brainchild, as he is credited as its writer/creator. However, given the heavy involvement of MacFarlane and his Family Guy team, expect Bordertown to have a similar tone as existing MacFarlane shows, especially if it hopes to tap into his current fanbase.

'The Cleveland Show' title

From a business standpoint, it makes sense that Fox would greenlight another series bearing MacFarlane's name. After all, American Dad will jump to TBS after its current season, and the network clearly hopes to keep MacFarlane onboard despite his work on Ted 2 and western comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West. Whether or not Bordertown will prove itself the next Family Guy or follow in the footsteps of the short-lived MacFarlane-produced sitcom The Winner.

Are you looking forward to Bordertown, or would you rather MacFarlane focus elsewhere (perhaps the long-rumored Family Guy film)? Sound off in the comments section below.
