Number one ranked Kazakhstani gamer and independent journalist Borat Sagediyev joined with famous American Twitch personality DrLupo for a meeting of the minds that was a great success. Mr. Sagdiyev is touring the country at the moment promoting his newest endeavor, a sequel to his 2006 film debut entitled Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. The film, which debuts this coming Friday on Amazon Prime Video, concerns Borat returning to America alongside his daughter and delivering her to an American diplomat in exchange for political favor. As one might expect, things don't go exactly to plan.
Borat's visit with DrLupo is one of many this week, although it's the only one where he can show off his gaming skills. The journalist appeared on Jimmy Kimmel earlier this week bearing news that Kazakhstan had just discovered a deadly virus that was sweeping the world. Borat carried a giant spray can that he used to cleanse the studio and demanded that Kimmel remove his pants to Borat could inspect his testicles for a deadly green color. With much literal prodding, Kimmel actually removed his pants and spent the rest of the interview crouching behind his chair.
DrLupo was not as giving as Jimmy Kimmel was during his conversation with Borat. Speaking from the Kazakhstani technology center (where scores of children work night and day to corrupt the US election, because "Why Not?"), Borat sat in front of a terminal-style PC and a yellowing keyboard. He initially challenged the Twitch streamer to wrestle before asking the doctor if the point of his channel was to play with himself for young boys to watch. The full fifteen-minute conversation saw Lupo trying to describe various games and the function of a computer mouse to the journalist, who was more than happy to ignore all that and describe various Kazakh traditions that elicited confused horror from DrLupo.
Unfortunately, Borat was never able to initiate a video game session with DrLupo, for several reasons. For one, the man in charge of the tech center utilized the fax line Borat was using to broadcast, which caused interference partway through the back and forth. Secondly, Borat seemed confused by the concept of video games, including comparing Overwatch to watching over his mentally challenged brother Bilo. Finally, although Borat also seemed confused by the concept of gaining subs, his notifications went off so often that it overloaded his signal, leaving DrLupo alone and the winner of the gaming challenge via forfeit.
It's been interesting to compare the rapid-fire marketing for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm with the more traditional methods used just 14 years ago. Sure, Borat did return to Jimmy Kimmel's talk show, but the famous character also popped up in places like DrLupo's stream, YouTube, and in an attempt to go viral with a purposefully inappropriate TikTok video. Perhaps by the time the world needs a third Borat film, Kazakhstan can secure an Ouya for Mr. Sagdiyev to practice his elite gamer skills.
