For all you Boondock Saints fans out there, I know we recently promised you that the trailer was going to arrive over a month ago, but hey, we too are slave to Hollywood’s wicked trickery (saints preserve us) icon wink Boondock Saints 2 Trailer (Red Band) is Finally Here! .

However the trailer is here now, so enough talk – let’s give you what you came for, the red-band trailer for Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day!

I’m going to be honest: I came late to the party back when Boondock Saints starting to become the cult-phenomenon it is today. The original film was released in 1999, I think I saw it in 2002 and immediately my reaction was “This is what all the fuss has been about?” At first I thought it was an Irish-themed Tarantino knock-off, with one HELL of a weird performance from Willem DaFoe as a quasi-gay, self-hating police detective???

My brother (and pretty much everybody else I know) swears by Boondock Saints though, and I’ve pretty much been written off by friends and family as a fool for not liking it.

About this sequel: the trailer makes the film look like a much more polished version of Troy Duffy’s (director of Boondock Saints) vision. The returning stars (Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus) look like they haven’t lost a step (or the chemistry) after nearly a decade; the new additions to the cast (Clifton Collins Jr., Judd Nelson, Peter Fonda, Billy Connolly and Julie Benz) look like good ones; and I am so SO happy that DaFoe’s character won’t be back. I love DaFoe, but that character pretty much murdered the first film for me.

For you Boondock Saints fanatics out there: I expect some of you will like the money-polished version of one of your cult favorites, while others of you will inevitably say that Duffy and Co. “Sold out.” We’ll see who feels which way in the comments.

Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day hits theaters on October 30, 2009.

  1. I don’t know about you, but what I’ve noticed is that people always go gaga over any of these witty remark movies by people with accents… I don’t know why though, I hate all of them…

  2. All Saints Day will be awesome! I can’t believe they have a detective that acts just like William Dafoe from the first one haha!!!!

But we all know there is no way the sequel lives up to the legendary status of the first movie. Tall task!

  3. yay …never thought this movie is gonna come out!
and: DeFo’s performace was legendary in the first one xD

  4. bring it!

  5. Note: Connolly was in the first one, so he too is returning. It was, however, a very small role.

  6. They’re releasing this one in theaters? I guess that shouldn’t be too much of a surprise since the first one was such a cult hit, it should have enough fans to draw in a good crowd and boxoffice. I’m with you though Kofi, I wasn’t as crazy about the first movie as everybody else seems to be also.

  7. I just liked the first one cause it was hilarious… Too bad willem dafoe isn’t in this one… He made me laugh the most… Either way i’ll see how this one goes for me. ” I’ll just have a coke then…” hilarious.

  8. I LOVED the first movie, Dafoe was Fantastic, one of his greatest movie performances in my opinion. I hope there is the same comedic banter that made the original Saints such a cult hit. The trailer looks good, but time will tell.

  9. I’m strangely comfortable withn it…

    GO SAINTS!!!

  10. I was a big fan of the first one and I’m psyched for the sequel.

    Cool trailer.

  11. Wow, and i taught this movie will never happen! Sweet!

  12. Did DaFoe just not want to be in the film? or did the director not want him in the film? and Why?? i liked his character in the movie, just cus it made me laugh, so a dissapointment that he is not returning.

  13. http://www.the-boondock-saints. de/trailer-3.html

  14. looking forward to this one. while i doubt theres any way it will top the first one… i can still hope that it will live up to the standards set by the first film.

  15. It’s trendy and cool to like Boondock Saints, but so what? I loved it. It was fun and anytime two hot blokes are kicking arse w/o hesitation. . . I’m in! So part two. I’m in for that as well.

Black people don’t like the joke from The Boondock Saints.

  17. Am i the only one that noticed that it’s NOT sean patrick flanery in the trailer? I know it’s been 10 years but there’s no way that can be him! If you haven’t noticed, pause is when you see him…it’s a different guy!

  18. “We’re kinda like 7-11..We may not always be doing business, but we’re ALWAYS open”’s hoping number 2 can match the original in awesomeness

  19. dude its sean patrick flanery, they wouldnt have some guy in the movie and say that its sean in the trailer and in the list of cast members.. he just looks different thats all

  20. Wow, if that’s Sean Patrick Flanery, he has changed A LOT! It doesn’t even look like him. That’s the first thing I thought when I watched the trailer. But I am definitely psyched about the sequel. And I will miss Willem Dafoe, because he was just great in the first movie.

  21. OVERRATED GARBAGE just like the first movie.

Kofi, I’ve also been written off by my friends as a fool for not liking Boondock Sh*t. So you’re not alone.

  22. You, my friend, lack good taste. :P

  23. Yay! I never Imagined a sequel and I’m sooo happy there is one. Have to agree about Dafoe though, didn’t care much for him in the first movie. Well, he had a few funny scenes in the first half. Anyway, LOVE that Connolly is taking on the role of Dad-Saint. He has such a great comedic voice in his acting. Now I’m just gonna sit back and enjoy some weird, fun action.

  24. glad to see the Saints returning. They’re showing their age though.

  25. Like the New York Times said about the first “Boondock Saints” “Just another Tarantino/Marty wannabe” I really agree with that. The first movie is SO overrated. I hated it the first time I saw it and still do. I’m not really looking forward to this new one, obviously. Also if you want to see a documentary about the most annoying person EVER, then watch “Overnight” a documentary about Boondock Saints Writer/Director Troy Duffy.

  26. Sean Patrick Flannery has aged a heap compared to norman!

It looks a little more hollywood, but i’ll be lining up.

  27. If it opens up anywhere near me (since the not showing up in cinema’s of Underworld 3 over here (read: Netherlands) I can no longer be sure what I’ll see) I wil surely be jumping up and down for this one. It’s been like an itch ever since they announced it.

  28. WTF is up with Rocco? didn’t he die in the first one? and it’s a very far stretch to say Defoe’s character had a protege. Had to roll my eyes at that one…..

  29. LOL at all the ppl saying this is a Tarantino knock off.

It’s fine if you hate the movie but don’t be so ignorant that you cite “knock off” as your reason. Do you realize how many movies Tarantino has “borrowed” from? Everything from dialogue to cinematography and he admits it too. He made those movies his own though and so did Duffy. You guys pop up every once in a while when a movie with eccentric characters, skewed timelines, etc. comes out. It’s tiresome. Just say you don’t like the movie.
