A friend told me about the sequel but I had to see for myself if it was true and I found this site. I absolutely loved this movie, saw it a dozen or so times....and just for the record...I am a 46 yr. old female. Who cares about any so-called similarities or who the director is, can't people just enjoy entertainment for what it is and stop analyzing every thing.

Yah, you're not allowed to dislike any movie unless you've made a movie yourself. So therefore, 100% of you better just love 100% of everything and shut your ignorant mouths!! :-D

Joe vs. the Volcano = Awesome!
Battlefield Earth = Oscar worthy!
The Spirit = Never get tired of it!
Bad Boys 2 = Bring on the 3rd!!

I agree with "Aye a few pints here" about Duffy deserving more credit for this work and hope he doesn't blow it with the people who run things in Hollywood with another diva crash and burn act this time around. Time does heal so we can hope. With currently less public opposition to the genre BDS represents than the unfortunate events of 1999 surrounding the first movie portended for the first film, I also expect that ten years has been enough time passed that that our violent movie culture is firmly entrenched enough for II to get a decent chance on the big screen for the theatrical release that the first one never got, as well as less risk to the film of reinvention that wasn't- which so often plagues sequels. It's good to know of the pre-release support it has achieved in any case. I really hope II is worth the wait for all those who have been steadfast- though I can't imagine it being any less than brilliant and better received this time around. As for me and mine, we will definitely come out in support of Sean and Norm and the rest. Personally I was thrilled to find out shortly after discovering the original BDS film that a sequel was already a done deal and set to come out later this year, especially after having read so much about the first one after I watched it and got interested in the online debate over it- It's like they say people either really love this movie, its story and characters and art or they really hate them- I can understand why on both accounts- the parent in me wanted to be offended by a lot of its content that people usually cite as offensive or whatever but I couldn't be if I tried- I just love it gunfire and blood and f-bombs and all- reminds me of my own family of origin in many ways I had not thought about in almost 40 years. Maybe that's why the movie has such a huge cult following- it grabs you in mental and spiritual places you didn't know you had or maybe knew in youth but had forgotten -then doesn't let go. Perhaps I should have been offended by it- as an Irish Catholic as much as a parent but the opposite is true. The original moved me in ways I cannot even begin to describe- for precisely those reasons- my heritage, my faith and my attitudes and anxieties toward my own two sons who are themselves on the crux of manhood and will soon be on their own in the world and have to make potentially life altering choices about their attitudes and behaviors toward good and evil- about being marked as men of action or indifference every day.Thank You Troy, Norman and Sean for your illuminating work on this idea. Peace be with you.
I sincerely pray that my boys will cling to their faith and definition of honorable manhood as well as Connor and Murphy do- not to become gun toting vigilantes of course- but in terms of their devotion to truth, justice, and freedom for all people from the oppression of evil men in the choices they make as positively contributing members of society - as educated professionals, husbands and fathers some day.

First of all, you're wrong...The Boondock Saints 2 has been filming since last year and is done filming, so its not on its way, its here just on the other side of a brick wall, second of all...the movie is set to come out in early fall of this year...he wanted to wait for All Saints Day (November 1st) for obvious reasons...but the people surrounding him are pushing for the release to be earlier. So, it will likely premeire late this year. I would also like to add that i agree that it has been a long 10 years...theres actually probably not a week that goes by that i don't find myself saying one of the funny as shit sayings the bartender says...ive waited for this since it was supposed to be released in '05...im also upset that willam dafoe opted out for the movie...and some woman is taking his place. This movie is going to hit the people who havent heard of it hard because...this ones going to the theaters in the U.S. this time

Ten Years is a long time to be steadfast.

I say we give the Academy award to best director - Anyone who isn't part of the Hollywood families, and remains steadfast for 10 years to get a sequel financed against opposition, then proceeds to get 90% of the original cast back, then writes the script and then then makes it under budget IS a director whom is worthy of an Academy Award.

Also, year after year to give the Award to the same old boy club people of "Hollywood" for regurgitating formulaic movies over and over is pathetic.

It has been a long time waiting for news of this sequel. The first one was awesome. I remember renting it on a whim before the craze hit about it and was blown away. Dafoe's character was great a gayman who hates gay people, hilarious.

I though that the first Boondock Saints movie was a complete guy movie. It def was fun but I can see why people wouldnt like it. Movies like this are not supposed to be perfect, they are supposed to be rough, edgy and offer something different to the crowd. Taking that into consideration, I cant wait for the sequel, I dont know if it is going to be all that great, but I will see it

retarded how ppl always think that when some1 makes a movie thats similar to some1 elses, its always a ripoff, no1 ever thinks that its to pay tribute to the original as being a big influence on the new 1 being made. troy duffy is undoubtedly an ass. but it does not take anything away from the movie being awesome.

@Woolycaveman,
Saying that is like saying that the Evil Dead series was a rip-off of other Horror movies, it just doesn't make sense!

It may not be the most cutting edge, or best directed film, but it has some amazing actors, and a great storyline.

I don't know if the sequel will be any good, but the first one was scrotum-splittingly awesome. Anyone who hates it for no good reason has my permission to eat a bowl of dicks.

Eh, Boondock Saints is an OK movie at best, fun to watch once but that's about it. There's only so much I can tolerate from these types of witty dialog/unlikely circumstances/coincidences type movies. I know people who are like die-hard fans of the movie like it was some revolutionary piece of movie-making. I really can't understand that...

Sure other directors are jerks, like James Cameron, but at least his movies ARE actually revolutionary and masterpieces.

@Sethimus

You are correct. Overnight is a great and sad look into the making of Boondock saints. He might be a jerk but I'm sure there are other big name directors that are jerks.

@Alex C

Anytime a stylish crime action movie comes out, people compare it to Tarantino/Guy Ritchie. Why? It is really dumb and lazy to dismiss a movie based on very few and very vague similarities to other movies. It's the laziest argument you can make.

Furthermore, generalizing like you do regarding the audience is also lazy.

I've heard these arguments a million times againts Boondock Saints and it's always the same thing. Nobody is saying the movie was revolutionary, it was a really good, fun, original movie.
