The impending Fox crossover event between two of its prime time TV shows - Bones and Sleepy Hollow - has been the center of buzz and viewer attention, leading up to the new season premieres of both shows this October. Fans will have to wait a little longer than previously anticipated for the return of characters like Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and Seely Booth (David Boreanaz), whose forthcoming partnership should prove to be more than reason enough to continue watching both shows.

Since the announcement of such a strange pairing of television, police procedurals, there has been little word on just how Fox plans to unify the seemingly dissimilar worlds of Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) with one another. Until the 2015 Television Critics Association summer press tour, that is.

According to TV Line, as part of Fox's showing at the 2015 TCA even in Beverly Hills, the network has released the following synopses for the Bones/Sleepy Hollow crossover event:

"On Bones, the grisly discovery of human remains lead Brennan and Booth on a hunt for clues, during which they encounter Ichabod Crane and Abbie Mills, searching for answers of their own. Realizing that they are after the same evidence, they team up to solve the mystery. Then, immediately following on Sleepy Hollow, the intrigue continues as Ichabod’s old nemesis is back from the dead. Ichabod and Abbie need advanced forensic help and expertise to stop him and turn to Brennan and Booth to unlock 18th century secrets using 21st century science."

Sleepy Hollow Comic-Con 2015 details

Admittedly, there's not much there to lay clear narrative grounds for such a logical jump between Bones and Sleepy Hollow's discontinuous timelines and temporal frames of reference. However, in a statement made by Sleepy Hollow season three showrunner Clifton Campbell, such quibbles with the two show's seeming interference with one another are swept aside (as you can see below):

"When the idea came about to create this crossover event for fans, our writers’ room was immediately energized. The creative freedom to merge these two worlds which, at face value, seem so different; but at their core have such striking similarities – mystery, intrigue and methodical deduction, wrapped up in such strong character partnerships – was a challenge that we all welcomed, and we believe that fans of both series will be very satisfied by the result. It was a terrific collaborative experience across the board and we are eager to see the fan reaction to Ichabod and Abbie working alongside Brennan and Booth."

Likewise, Bones executive producer Michael Peterson had this to offer on the matter:

"The Bones/Sleepy Hollow crossover is like a great episode of The X-Files, where the Bones hour is the Scully, logic-based perspective and the Sleepy Hollow hour is more Fox Mulder-esque. Put them together, and it’s going to be a great two-hour event that fans of both programs are going to love."

If the teams behind both of these Fox TV shows can pull such an incredible pairing off well enough, then fans of the respective series may indeed find something new to love about each program in kind. And as cited before here before at Screen Rant, why not pair such two seemingly disparate shows together - in a ploy to attract new viewers to the still relatively young Sleepy Hollow via the built-in fan base adherent to the long-running buddy cop show, Bones?

Bones/Sleepy Hollow will join forces during a two-part crossover event airing October 29th, 2016 on Fox.
