What’s an interview with Bones creator Hart Hanson if you don’t have an interview with the shows stars, David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel, to accompany it. Luckily, both were in attendance at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con (Deschanel was a surprise guest as Boreanaz was the only one confirmed attending).

With season 6 of Bones less than two months away, fans want to know anything and everything about what they can expect to see when the series returns. In the season 5 finale, the entire Jeffersonian crew broke up to do their own thing (minus Cam, she’s always in the lab), but now with 6 months away from each other, what will bring the team back together?

In the interview, neither Boreanaz nor Deschanel will fess up to what exactly that is (rabid Bones fans already the answer), but they did talk about what we can expect to see in the show's sixth season, plus word on Deschanel directing, Boreanaz’s Afghanistan scenes, Booth’s new love interest and the fan pressure of seeing Booth and Brennan together.

You can read the highlights below (make sure to check out the complete video of the interview for even more tid-bits):

On what’s in store for Bones season 6:

David Boreanaz: We’ve been away for a while. The characters have kind of split and gone off.

Emily Deschanel: We left at the end of last season – season 5. I went to Maluiku, the Maluiku Island and Booth went to Afghanistan.

David: Yeah, so it’s interesting to see how their distance…  When they do come back, obviously they were changed when they left and now when they come back – after being away for so long – it’s interesting to see how they mold back to each other's personalities, what they’ve picked up in the last six months, how they’ve adapted to coming back to [Washington D.C.], what [Brennan] has lost, what [Booth] lost – what’s not there.

But, I think in essence, what the show is so purely about the two of them always being together, even if they’re so far apart, and it allows the characters to stretch out and breath a bit and then come back to this arena and see where they are.

Emily: …Maybe appreciate each other a little more since there’s time apart.

On Booth’s new love interest:

David: There’s somebody that’s coming in. She’s a war correspondent journalist who [Booth] met while over there in Afghanistan and we’ll see how that builds as far as what it does to [Booth and Brennan’s] relationship.

I can honestly say that I don’t think it’s going to do much to the relationship. It’ll challenge it. It may make [Brennan] a little jealous.

Emily: It’s kind of scary, to [Brennan]. [Laughs] This lady is coming in.

David: It’s threatening, but also I think it’s refreshing to see how Booth put himself out there at the end of season 5 and say, “Here. Here’s everything” and [Brennan] said, “Nah, I can’t do that right now.” So, [Booth] said, “Ok, well, I have too many choices I have to look over.”

In doing so, he’s made a few choices and then comes back with that and see how she reacts.

Emily: Meanwhile, [Brennan has] been on her own, thinking about things, looking for ancient remains… and I think the time apart has given [her] some time to reflect and to consider whether [she] might have made a mistake when she said “no” to getting together when he kind of put his heart out there, but now he’s got this girl. So, it causes a little conflict.

Comic-Con 2010: Interview With David Boreanaz & Emily Deschanel

On whether they feel pressure from the fans to get Booth and Brennan together?

Emily: That’s the number one question we’ve been asked.

David: They always ask that question.

Emily: I don’t feel it’s pressure, that just means that people care about the show and like the characters and think that they have a chemistry together and I think that means we’re doing a good job. So, no, I don’t find that pressure.

Fortunately, That’s not my job – decided whether they get together and all that. So, I don’t feel the pressure. I like that feedback and I like hearing that and if people feel that way, it’s wonderful.

On what it’s like filming the Afghanistan scenes:

David: We haven’t done it yet. We shoot that this week. So, it should be hot. [Emily] was out there doing prep because she’s directing the episode.

Emily: I’ve been to Afghanistan and he hasn’t, basically... L.A. is “Afghanistan” [laughs]

It’s very hot! He’s going to have to be dressed… I just don’t envy you.

David: [laughs] It’s ok, I’d rather be in that outfit than wear those gloves and say all that scientific jargon.

In it, Emily (jokingly) talks about how Brennan hangs out naked in Maluku (“that’s how she rolls”), what they’ve been up to during their vacation and how they feel about Hart Hanson saying that he has the ending of Bones written.
