Netflix's animated series BoJack Horseman has been officially renewed for a fifth season, and announced the news with a short animated clip on Twitter. The Emmy-Nominated show follows the adventures of washed-up celebrity BoJack (Will Arnett) as he struggles to find happiness in Hollywood - in a version of the world where people are joined by anthropomorphic animals. Since the series began in 2014, it's been growing in popularity, and is now one of the world's most popular adult animated series.

Of course, BoJack Horseman is far from fun in the traditional sense, with storylines that get extremely bleak at times. From child stars with drug addictions to couples struggling with family acceptance and infertility, the wacky world that BoJack inhabits brings a little lightness to very serious subjects... and will continue to do so for another season.

The show's Twitter account confirmed that a fifth season has been ordered by Netflix, via a seventeen-second animated clip captioned "SO THIS HAPPENED". The animated clip shows BoJack's phone, as he receives a series of texts from a Netflix executive (labelled 'clingy netflix exec' in his contacts). The texts confirm that the show has been renewed, and that he'll be back 'on set' soon, although no firm dates have been revealed just yet.

The Twitter account pretends to be BoJack himself, so this animated clip is a really cute and funny way for Netflix to make the announcement, and was followed by some great interactions between the account and various fans as they asked questions about details of the video. (The low battery power (12%!) and the fact that the tweets were ostensibly received yesterday were popular comments.)

This isn't the first time that Netflix has shown that they know how to use social media to full effect, either. The Defenders' Twitter accounts have previously done quite a bit of bantering between them (each of them being from the perspective of a different lead character), and the Jessica Jones account was even promoting BoJack Horseman season 4 last month.

While this video doesn't provide much information for fans about what to expect next season, or when it is likely to show up on Netflix, it's a great way to get the information out there that is fun and uses the character's unique personality at the same time. It's likely that the fifth season will be premeiring sometime in the second half of next year - but as previous seasons have launched at various times between July and September, we'll just have to wait and see for now.
