Twentieth Century Fox announced a Bob's Burgers movie based on the Bob's Burgers TV series. Created by Loren Bouchard, the TV show first debuted on FOX in 2011 and has since become a beloved animated sitcom among viewers and critics over the course of its seven seasons. Set in a small coastal town, Bob's Burgers follows the family that runs the titular hamburger restaurant. Patriarch Bob Belcher (H. Jon Benjamin) runs the business along with his wife Linda (John Roberts) and three children, Tina (Dan Mintz), Gene (Eugene Mirman), and Louise (Kristen Schaal). The cast of the animated series is filled out with the colorful characters of their small town, including Bob's rival Jimmy Pesto (Jay Johnston) and their landlord, Mr. Fischoeder (Kevin Kline).

The series recently returned for its season 8 premiere, which featured a number of animated styles inspired by fan art sent to the show by viewers as a tribute to Bob's Burgers' dedicated fan base. The season premiere of Bob's Burgers also featured Bob and Linda putting on their first ever brunch - to disastrous, and hilarious, results. Now, though FOX renewed Bob's Burgers through season 8, fans have something else to look forward to as a movie based on the series is set to debut in the coming years.

Deadline is reporting that 2oth Century Fox has set the Bob's Burgers movie for a release date on July 17, 2020. Currently, the film has no other competition in its release date slot, though Minions 2 opens two weeks prior, Indiana Jones 5 one week prior, and Green Lantern Corps. the week after. Bouchard spoke about the pressure of adapting a show as beloved as Bob's Burgers into a movie that will also appeal to casual filmgoers who have never seen the FOX series:

Featured Bobs Burgers Cast Shout

“We’re thrilled to be invited to bring Bob’s Burgers to the big screen. We know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show. We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s – but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?!”

Bob's Burgers recently won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Series - which the show also previously took home in 2014 - but it's unclear what this particular movie effort means for the future of the show. FOX gave Bob's Burgers an early season 7 and 8 renewal, but hasn't given any indication of whether the Belchers will return for a ninth outing, or more beyond that. If Bouchard and the rest of the show's creative team are hard at work on the Bob's Burgers movie, season 8 could be the last fans see of the series for some time as it may take a break until the film is completed.

Of course, it's also possible that the movie is a quiet way to cancel Bob's Burgers, allowing the production to wrap up on the high note of an animated feature film. But that remains to be seen until FOX offers an official update on the cancellation/renewal of Bob's Burgers. (The Simpsons, of course, released an animated film and has since continued for many seasons.) Still, the prospect of a Bob's Burgers movie is no doubt exciting for fans of FOX's animated series.
