The third season of HBO's prohibition drama, Boardwalk Empire, is right around the corner, and the producers would like to introduce you to the newest thorn in Nucky's side: a fellow gangster by the name of Gyp Rosetti (Bobby Cannavale).

Perhaps between checking out True Blood or The Newsroom, you've seen the ads for the upcoming season of Boardwalk Empire, which feature a stylish recreation of the shocking finale to season 2 that insists, "You can't be half a gangster."

So, as 1923 rolls around and prohibition continues to line the pockets of those willing (or desperate) to engage in the illegal distribution of alcohol, Enoch "Nucky" Thompson (Steve Buscemi) is seemingly ready to put aside any misconceptions that he can be both a well-respected public figure and Atlantic City's most notorious gangster. Considering which role will more readily grant Mr. Thompson that which he most desires, the choice is clear. Unfortunately for Nucky, his position in A.C. is one that his enemies (and even some friends) might consider up for grabs, and apparently that goes double for guys like Gyp Rosetti.

There is plenty to speculate on in this jam-packed trailer, as Nucky continues to deal with the fallout from last season - and not just the bullet-riddled kind. It seems that although some time has passed, Nucky still hasn't quite managed to forgive Margaret (Kelly Macdonald) for the donation she made in his name to the church. Their relationship had its ups and downs last season, but now it looks as though it may be on its last leg.

Meanwhile, along with a few too-brief glimpses of Chalky White (Michael Kenneth Williams) and the recently relocated Nelson Van Alden (Michael Shannon), there are plenty of peeks at the tragic hit man, Richard Harrow (Jack Huston), and Jimmy's twisted mother, Gillian (Gretchen Mol). There's even a tantalizing little bit of dialogue where Al Capone (Stephen Graham) makes assurances that his New Year's resolution to behave is not technically in peril, as there's apparently still plenty of time to cause a ruckus before the clock strikes twelve.

Checking in with the regular cast is great, but the trailer is mostly intent on shifting the viewer's attention toward the new guy, Gyp Rosetti, who brazenly asserts that Nucky has "jeopardized" his livelihood and therefore is fair game when it comes to ripping people off. And while Rosetti doesn't seem to have quite the same Zen approach to doing business as Nucky, he more than makes up for it with his unwillingness to step down from a potential gunfight.

Cannavale is a quality actor, whose talents will certainly not go to waste on a show like Boardwalk Empire. At any rate, fans only have a few more weeks of waiting until they find out just how much trouble Gyp Rosetti can make for Nucky Thompson.
