[Update: We now have video of the live-action Blue Beetle screen test!]

Geoff Johns has a pretty spectacular job. As Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics, he works with Warner Bros. to develop projects based on DC characters for film, television, and every other form of media.

On the company’s official blog, The Source, Johns recently revealed images from a live-action Blue Beetle screen test and explained:

“I feel very fortunate to have been a part of Blue Beetle’s introduction way back in INFINITE CRISIS. I’ve said it before, but thanks to the BLUE BEETLE series launched by Keith Giffen and John Rogers with a great design by Cully Hamner, Jaime Reyes rocks. Great character, great story, great look. He’s already appeared in animation, had action figures and right now he’s on my computer in live-action glory. I have an early special effects test that has been floating around of what his armored scarab-suit could look like. This isn’t final. This isn’t greenlit. It’s only a test that was done.”

Update: Check out this video clip of the live-action Blue Beetle - it's featured as part of the demo reel for animator/effects guy, "Scaddude" so keep your eyes peeled:

Johns clarifies that this is “something we’re using in the hopes of bringing him to the small screen” and that the full clip will be shown at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

While the costume is true to the current incarnation of the character, I think it loses something in the translation. I’m not saying it’s awful, just that it wouldn’t look out of place as the villain in a Power Rangers episode.  However, it’s obviously only a screen test and could evolve significantly if plans for a live-action Blue Beetle show or movie proceed.

What do you think of the costume and plans to bring a live-action Blue Beetle to the small screen?
