Vin Diesel is no stranger to high octane action films. He has been part of long running franchises like Fast and Furious, Riddick, XXX, and Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy. This time around he brings Valiant Comic’s Bloodshot to the big screen. Ray Garrison is a fallen soldier who is brought back by a company who plans on using his skills as a soldier while also giving him an amazing upgrade that would make him invincible. Bloodshot hits theaters March 13.

This film is great. It's insane. First off, I'd like you to thank your son for putting you in touch with Bloodshot. Valiant Comic fans are super excited to finally see it on the big screen. So thank you to him. Tell me about how you approach this character differently than how you approach the other iconic characters that you brought to life.

Vin Diesel: The other characters that I play are three steps ahead and we've grown accustomed. That's why we go to them. That's why we rely on, that's why we trust them. This is the antithesis of that and probably the draw and probably the challenge and excitement of playing this character. He's in the dark just to get a small idea of reality is impossible for him. Yeah. I started by playing a soldier for Steven Spielberg. I'll always have a soft spot for playing a soldier. I played a soldier for Ang Lee and this was the third time in an intense piece to represent a soldier. And this version was a little different. This is the version that touches on post traumatic stress. And that concept that soldiers have all around the world when they come home, will they be recognized or forgotten or their sacrifices be appreciated or discarded? There's a lot of that in this.

It's a New York Times bestseller for a reason and that's because of the compelling story. The script was executed so nicely. It was such a mind puzzle beyond MacGuffin and red herrings. It was like a true mind puzzle that was fascinating to be a part of. At the vulnerability of the character. It's strange to play a character that's so formidable and evokes so much fear and respect, but simultaneously halfway through the movie we're feeling more empathetic for this character than most characters we've seen on film for awhile. We're feeling for this. That's not natural. That's one of the things that makes us feel so original and so dynamic. It is a not just a cliche way to say it's a new approach to a film, to a superhero genre because in theory is Bloodshot at all a conventional superhero? Is he a guy that's saying, I'm going to say the world and we've got to do right now? He said he doesn't even have that liberty to be that aware that he's not even in his, doesn't even have a reality surreal. So it makes it feel very interesting.

Researching the character, were there any storylines or story arcs you wanted to explore in this film that you hope to do in the sequel?

Vin Diesel: Yes, and therein lies another great reason to be excited about portraying this character. Those that know the Bloodshot franchise in the comic book universe know how differently throughout each story we perceive this character at times he may seem like the, we're rooting for him. He may seem like the protagonist, but all you have to do is look at a harbinger or look at something else. And all of a sudden you're looking at the boogeyman, you're looking at diversity, you're looking at the scariest thing in this world. Yeah. So it's fascinating and that's one of the reasons why it's just the beginning of the Valiant. But the reason why the Valiant comic book fans are so excited is because they know more than the world knows. This is just the beginning of the tip of the iceberg and there's so many different ways.
