Black Panther stands with his arms outstretched

Though we’re still a little ways away from the release of the first live action solo film featuring the title character in Black Panther, star Chadwick Boseman has revealed that his character will be vital in the upcoming third installment in the Avengers franchise, Avengers: Infinity War. While the first two Avengers films focused on a relatively smaller group of superheroes, Infinity War will feature an enormous cast of characters which includes Black Panther making his Avengers debut.

Thanks to a poster released at San Diego Comic-Con, fans got a first look at the changes that Black Panther director Ryan Coogler has made to T’challa’s suit. This apparently includes nanotechnology, which is hardly surprising given the superior technology in the kingdom of Wakanda. Though a new suit doesn’t necessarily mean anything in relation to Black Panther’s role in Infinity War, perhaps Wakanda’s advanced technology could become a factor.

While speaking with Comic Book at SDCC, Boseman revealed that his character is an “important factor” in the upcoming Infinity War film. Though he didn’t really elaborate too much on that point, it’s clear that Boseman is integral to the storyline. For his full thoughts on Black Panther’s involvement, read below:

Infinity War Black Panther

“It's considerable, it's considerable. He’s an important factor in Infinity War.”

Naturally, this isn’t exactly a whole lot to go on, but looking at the comic story that Infinity War is based on, and Boseman may indeed be on to something. In the comic story, Wakanda is attacked by Thanos and his Black Order (recently confirmed to be appearing in Infinity War) in search of the Infinity Gems (Infinity Stones in the MCU). Will this be the case for Infinity War? It’s hard to say, but showcasing that even Wakanda is no match for Thanos could be a great way to effectively raise the stakes.

Regardless, after Black Panther’s debut in Captain America: Civil War, fans have been clamoring to see acclaimed director Coogler’s take on the character in Black Panther. The fact that it will also be our first real look at how much of Wakanda is adapted faithfully into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is just an added bonus. The first trailer released certainly seems to promise an entirely different type of Marvel film that will highlight T’challa’s struggle to rule. Perhaps it will also give us a glimpse of what’s to come when Avengers: Infinity War releases. Fans will simply have to wait and see.
