We all know that Brett Ratner is attached to direct Beverly Hills Cop 4, and that Eddie Murphy will be reprising his trademark role of Axel Foley.
For a few years there were rumors that the film would show the adventures of Foley in London, but I’m guessing that the filmmakers realized that the character is from Detroit and that he solves crimes in Beverly Hills, so he would just be London Cop. And that is a whole other franchise.
Well, now Latino Review have seen a script by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas for the new film and according to them – it’s not too good.

[SOME PLOT SPOILERS FOLLOW]
If this script is used, then film will begin with Foley’s friend Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) throwing himself off a building. However, Axel knows that this is something that Billy just would not do. Returning to Beverly Hills for the first time in years, Axel decides to track down Billy’s killers who turn out to be corrupt cops.

While Latino Review states that the film comes across as very 1980’s, they feel that the Axel Foley character is far removed from the fun loving cop that kicked ass 20 years ago. Apparently Foley has no funny lines (not unlike any other Eddie Murphy film in recent memory) and that the “comedy relief” comes from a limo driver. Not only that, but for an action comedy the film is very light on action. Aren’t Murphy’s comedies these days very light on comedy too? I see a pattern…
It doesn’t sound too promising. The studio is apparently in love with the script, but Murphy isn’t too happy. If it doesn’t please Murphy then I can’t imagine this being the draft to make it to the big screen. However, was he really happy with Meet Dave’s script? Or Pluto Nash? Or…
Don’t worry, I’m pretty sure that Beverly Hills Cop 4 will chug along in development hell for quite some time before it makes to a cinema near you.

I kind of like the concept, however, if there is not enough action an Eddie Murphy being the Wiseass that Foley is, then it wot really be worth it.
But I say, but I think this kind of movie should do. I am a huge fan of the saga of Beverly Hills Cop, except that the third has not disappointed me so much. I mean, because to die Rosewood, the script and if so, then the collection will be very disappointing as the third film. I wrote today in Brett Ratner to this story that I read today. To me the film it should do as the first and second, and must return the couple Axel-Billy-Taggart, and the plot should be, where drug traffickers threaten to death Taggart, where it asks for help to Axel and Billy, you bring in evidence of these criminals, and in the end it turns out that the governor of California involved in all this traffic to win the elections. In the cast are to bring two other players, who in the third we do not see Andrew Bogomil and Jeffrey Friedman. Then I want Axel in the film is fun as the first and second, and that makes a Detroit couple with Jeffrey Friedman. I hope that the screenplay changed soon, before it is too late. I want Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Ronny Cox and Paul Reiser.
I loved the old movies (mainly the first 2) but, in now way should this movie ever be made. Reinhold tossed out and Murphy not being a wiseass? already sounds terrible. Even if the script were to work, this movie already has a Poison Pill and his name is Brett Ratner. I don’t know how that guy still has a job directing, everything he touches becomes waterworldesque bad.
Beverly Hills Cop any number other than 1 is a bad idea. i loved cop 1 didn’t like cop 2 hated cop 3. the hollywood machine turned a onetime story into a franchise. there was no reason to make cop 2 not unless jenny summers had asked for help or she had gotten killed but i don’t believe axel would have become friends with rosewood, taggart and bogamill. horrible movie just like 48hours 2.
OKay.In real life,Axel Foley would be retired from the Detroit PD after 20 years of service and would be working as a Mall Cop Part Time to make a little scratch on the side
or living in Florida or the Texas Gulf Coast on his pension
by now!!!
Instead of having Eddie as Axel Foley,why not have a young actor as his son Axel Foley,Junior take over??
OMG Why is this even being discussed? Brett RATner is not the man for this. He has too much history mucking things up. And cant the same thing be said of Eddie Murphy?
Ok, personally I love Family Man, the only RATner movie that I own. And Dreamgirls was obviously the only recent movie that Eddie Murphy has been in quite the longest time. Why dont both of them go back to the formulas that have recently worked for them. RATner needs no part in writing or producing a major film, just he needs to direct small ensemble drama movies. Murphy just needs to quit comedy altogether and go in another direction.
