I adore chihuahuas and when I heard of it i freaked out me and my friends are going to see it opening night. Oh, and is it true that Disney got there idea of a chihuahua movie because of a puppy chihuahua being born with a marking that looked like a mickey mouse head? I have a smooth coat chihuahua and a long-coat chihuahua i show them! (conformation:dog shows and agility)

I participated in a test screening last week for this movie, and I've got to say I liked it. First, it is a dog movie. Second it should not be gauged for social commentary. Why? It's a dog movie. The story is about a B.H. 90210 foo-foo Chihuahua named Chloe (Drew Barrymore) that gets lost in Mexico. That's where the adventure begins, as she tries to find her way back to the U.S. with the reluctant assistance of a German Shepard named Delgado (Andy Garcia). I'm not going to go any deeper into the story except to say that there are some elements that need work before release. The reception by the audience was very positive.
The effects are excellent (at least the ones that were complete) and the story is plausible to a point. The bottom line is, it's a fun, adventure flick that both kids and adults will enjoy. Although they did include at the end, presumably for the credits, the awful musical number that has been acting as the trailer. I strongly recommended on my survey that this be removed. It's totally out of context and, well, stupid.
Which leads to my next point. DO NOT judge this movie by its trailer. It has virtually nothing to do with the story. So pipe-down folks over how you believe that Disney is bastardizing Mexican/Central American history. Yes, the trailer is lame, but it is not indicative of the movie. Why Disney is taking this tack though, I don’t understand, maybe to get you to talk about it? What better way is there to fuel Internet buzz than to piss people off? Hmmm.
Anyway, the movie is filmed primarily in Mexico. Specifically in Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta. The stereotypes that are set up at the beginning of the film are torn down later. Although, many of the characters speak a lot of slang "Spanglish" that anyone who lives in Los Angeles will know and appreciate. BTW, George Lopez (the voice of Poppi) is absolutely, 100% George Lopez. If you don't like his sense, self-deprecating/celebratory Latino humor, you won't dig his character.
The movie is NOT a historical epic, and doesn't distort Mexican history. It's not Apocolypto. It does portray Mexico as a beautiful, caring, modern, pleasant place, something that a lot of Mexican films don't even do.
Again, it's a fun, adventurous, film that mocks the Paris Hiltonesque dog culture. But most of all, it's a DOG movie.

it's easy to be baffled at why they would make such a film and who green-lit it.. BUT... this film will probably do pretty well financially.. and kids will enjoy it.. Just like the movie cats and dogs which was very average.. kids will flock with their parents to see it.

I see using the "Indy-Font" (tm) is in vogue again. No doubt due to the upcoming release of an Indy film.

As for the actors, all I can say is "What dirt does this director have on them to get these A-listers involved when they should have learned all they needed to know from the title and name of the director and put it in the proper (waste) receptacle?"

Wow, I dont really know what to think of this one. Maybe there will be some paris hilton jokes thrown in there, like how the dogs are trying to escape her, or something.

I predict at least 28 butt sniffing jokes.

12 Taco Bell jokes.

And possibly a Star Wars reference.
