Crafting a successful spin-off series of a popular TV show is never an easy task, as the small-screen graveyard is littered with many attempted spin-offs that failed to catch on and died a quick death. It's even harder to make a good spin-off of a series so beloved that many pop culture devotees hold it up as one of the greatest TV dramas of all time; a list quite a few folks place Vince Gilligan's AMC hit Breaking Bad high up on.

Thankfully, Breaking Bad's spin-off Better Call Saul has proven more than worthy of sharing a universe with its iconic progenitor, with both critics and audiences generally loving the prequel tale of smooth-talking lawyer Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) as he travels down the twisted road that will eventually lead him to reinvent himself as sleazy "criminal lawyer" Saul Goodman. In fact, as praised as season 1 of Saul was, many consider 2016's season 2 to have outdone it, further setting the stage for its titular star's role in the events of Breaking Bad.

For those who just can't wait to get a taste of AMC's upcoming Better Call Saul season 3, a small batch of first look images has been released via EW that offer a quick glimpse at what's ahead. They obviously don't reveal much, but the first two photos do at least establish that Saul will once again travel forward to the future to tease fans with another peek at "Gene's" depressing life post-Bad. Photo three features Jimmy and his antagonistic brother Chuck in the same room, although the context is unclear. Check all three photos out, below.

Better Call Saul Season 3 Jimmy and Chuck

It'll be interesting to find out what leads to Jimmy being alone with Chuck at the latter's house after the events of Saul's season 2 finale, which saw a vengeful Chuck secretly record his brother admitting to committing a felony as part of the latter's plan to return the Mesa Verde case back to his colleague and love interest Kim Wexler.

Should Chuck take this recording to the authorities, there would no doubt be severe consequences in store for both Jimmy and Kim, even though Kim wasn't aware of Jimmy's misdeeds before he carried them out. At best, Jimmy would likely be disbarred, and Kim's reputation would be ruined. At worst, Jimmy could be looking at prison time. One wonders if Chuck intends to be that vindictive in his pursuit of vengeance, but he's shown a tendency not to let slights go unpunished. Perhaps he'll opt to simply hold the evidence over Jimmy's head like a swinging blade, using this leverage to get whatever he wants out of his brother. Whatever happens, it's almost guaranteed to be bad for Walter White's future lawyer.

Better Call Saul season 3 debuts on AMC in spring 2017.
