Did you love those fake trailers that ran before Tropic Thunder? If so, there is good news to share with you.
Fans of Ben Stiller's movie industry spoof are certainly going to be glad to hear that the actor's Red Hour Digital label is going to be producing a dozen or so new faux movie trailers, to be released on a weekly basis online.
The project is called...The Fake Trailer Project, and at the moment Stiller and Red Hour Digital are trying to secure a distribution partner for the online rollout. According to Deadline, TFTP will try to draw some famous celebrities to take part in the fun, though no big-names have been floated yet. The Tropic Thunder faux trailers featured the film's cast - Jack Black, Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. - with a hilariously kinky cameo appearance by former Spider-Man star, Tobey Maguire.

Suffice to say: The world could stand to have a few more these - they were, and are, hilarious.
Stiller is producing the shorts alongside Stuart Cornfeld and Mike Rosenstein through Red Hour Digital. Some behind-the-camera talent has already been lined up to contribute to the project, including Tropic Thunder co-writer Justin Theroux, Clueless director Amy Heckerling, as well as Tom Lennon and Ben Garant, who wrote Stiller's family-film hit, Night at the Museum.
Whether in Tropic Thunder, Grindhouse (or any other film that uses them), faux trailers are, generally speaking, good fun. Tropic Thunder sported some of the better trailer parodies that we've seen, and it seems like a much better idea to keep producing small shorts that embrace digital media, rather than trying to milk a good thing by making full-length features out of them. If Grindhouse spinoffs like Machete and Hobo With A Shotgun have proven anything, it's that audiences aren't exactly handing over cash by the fistful to watch movies based on shoddy or outright ridiculous trailer parodies.
Right now The Fake Trailer Project is aiming to start releasing trailers in the late fall or winter of 2011. We'll keep you posted on release dates, and of course you'll be able to find each new trailer here at Screen Rant ;-).
