Battlefield 2042's Steam peak concurrent player base is now lower than that of the newly released Farming Simulator 22. Issues plagued DICE's new game since launching on November 19 - such as problems with Battlefield 2042's low fps and servers, glitches, bugs, and other difficulties. Certain solutions are rolling out in an attempt to solve some of these setbacks, but there is no way to know if these efforts will be successful.

Battlefield 2042 did not include many elements present in previous Battlefield games, all of which caused significant frustration among its players. Along with these missing features, the new release's unimpressive graphics, lacking sound design, poor gunplay, and overall struggling performance will likely be tough fixes for EA and DICE. Future updates to Battlefield 2042 may fix some of the most major issues, but the game seems to have a long way to go before fans are happy.

A recent article by Kotaku highlighted the severity of the Battlefield 2042's struggles, noting that its active player base on Steam is lower than that of the recently launched Farming Simulator 22. It is, of course, important to note that Battlefield 2042 can be played on many platforms, of which Steam is only one. However outdoing a high-profile release - such as that of a new Battlefield game - on a major platform like Steam is significant, regardless of how much of a green thumb the Steam community may (or may not) have. The difference in numbers is significant, with Battlefield 2042 peaking at 52,000 players in the last 24 hours, and its newfound rival peaking at 94k in the same period. The state of the game is already deteriorating, having made it onto Steam's list of most negatively reviewed games.

While Battlefield 2042 is underperforming on Steam, it is possible that the sample of data represented there may not provide a good overall picture of the game's player base on other mediums. In spite of that possibility, Battlefield 2042's poor Steam ratings are noteworthy alone, even if its numbers on other platforms are significantly more favorable. PCs are one of the most widely-used gaming systems on the market, and Steam is a prominent distributor of PC games. Regardless of whether Battlefield 2042 is doing better on other systems than it is on Steam, the numbers represented here seem to show a major loss of possible players - even if other platforms are factored in.

Despite the outpouring of discontent and bad reviews, not all the news is bad for the new release. Battlefield 2042 has nearly twice as many players as its previous series installment, Battlefield 5. If the bad performance of this game out the gate manages not to scare too many players away and the series continues to improve its launches for future installments, perhaps the franchise will dodge a bullet. There is no telling now what will happen in the future for EA and DICE, but there is no doubt they have their work cut out for them.
