Adam Driver Nightwing Batman vs Superman Batman vs. Superman: Adam Driver Being Considered for Nightwing Role

It looks like Bruce Wayne will be getting a sidekick in Batman vs. Superman after all. Hot on the heels of this week’s report that the Man of Steel sequel might feature Dick Grayson, news has come out that Warner Bros. is already considering actors for the part.

Our friends at Latino Review were the first to break the scoop that the character of Nightwing might appear in the film, describing a “young John Hawkes” type for the role – and  it turns out they were right on the money.

According to The Wrap, Girls actor Adam Driver is being eyed for the part. In addition to his recurring role on the hit HBO show, the 29-year-old Driver has appeared in several high-profile films, including Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar, Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, and the Coen brothers’ upcoming Inside Llewyn Davis.

While Driver may not exactly match the lantern-jawed Nightwing from the comics, the actor is actually a good physical fit for the role. Standing at an impressive 6’3″, Driver would more than hold his own against the 6’1″ Henry Cavill and the 6’4″ Ben Affleck. And if there’s one thing that Hollywood trainers are good at, it’s helping actors pack on muscle.

Nightwing in Batman vs Superman Batman vs. Superman: Adam Driver Being Considered for Nightwing Role

The real question is whether Driver can pull his weight dramatically in what might actually be a fairly tricky part. As we learned in the initial report, the Nightwing that will be featured in Batman vs. Superman isn’t on good terms with Batman. If the plot rumors are to be believed, the two characters haven’t spoken in years after some unknown falling out.

Whomever takes over the role will have to make the audience believe that Nightwing and Batman once had a close relationship. In a big-budget superhero movie that’s jam-packed with action (and an abundance of possible new characters), getting that kind of character development across can be a challenge. Based on his resume, however, Driver could deliver.

The Wrap also reports that there are two other actors in consideration for the part, so stay tuned for more updates. In the meantime, let us know what you think about Driver in the comments. Could the actor pull off the role, or should Warner Bros. pick somebody else for the part?

Batman vs. Superman hits theaters on July 17, 2015.

  1. Dafuq

    • +1

  2. I don’t see it.

  3. This sounds pretty awesome actually. I look forward to diving in to a batman with a rich mythology already developed and this dude could work.

  4. I really don’t see him as Nightwing. I picture Milo Ventimiglia as a good Nightwing.

    • Yeah he could pull it off. I’d be cool with that pick.

      • Anyone think a Matt Bomer would be a good fit for nightwing?

        • I think Matt Bomer would be a PERFECT fit for Batman. He has the face, the agility, and the acting chops.

          • Interesting. His IMDB pic makes him look like he’d be Henry Cavill’s younger brother.

          • idk if you’ve ever seen him in white collar his popular tv show but i dont think he has the physical physique to pull of the batman part of the role he’d be a great bruce wayne but a little to short height wise at 5 10 but i do think dick grayson would be something in his wheelhouse

  5. I’m sure its a cameo but it will make the new batman movie before or after the justice league a must see. Hopefully Nightwing could lead to a Young Justice movie. Probably not but its wishful thinking.

  6. Aaron Tveit from Graceland, I wanted him for Batman but ya see how that dream turned out…

    • That’s the guy you wanted for Batman? He doesn’t look anything like any Bruce Wayne ever, unless you count Val Kilmer.

  7. A very interesting choice.
According to IMDB, Driver is 1.91m tall, while Ben Affleck is also 1.91m tall.
I always evisioned Nightwing to be smaller than Batman, but frankly, I don’t mind it.
What is even more interesting is the fact that Henry Cavill (Superman) is ”only” 1.85m tall – shorter than Batman and Nightwing, even though he was supposed to be taller than them, at least in comic books.

  8. He’d make one odd looking Nightwing.

  9. I’m cool with Nightwing being in the movie for some quick exposition or a dramatic plot device, but this kid is goofy lookin.

  10. WB is really surprising me right now. Every bit of news that’s
been leaked, rumored, or confirmed has left me speechless.
NightWing, and Wonder Woman can work well if they’re footprint
on this movie isn’t too heavy. But all things considered I’m exicited
about Snyder and Goyers’s agressiveness with this story.

  11. No, just no…

  12. I’m sure he’s a fine actor but I don’t see it.
I’m thinking someone like Ian somerhalder for nightwing.

And since I’ve been off sites for awhile I wanna chime in on the Wonder Woman short list. I think gal gadot is a fantastic choice. I loved her in the fast movies but my top choice is Jaimie Alexander more then ever now after seeing the dark world.

    • I think Ian Somerhalder would be a great choice. He’s a great actor, I’ve only seen him in Lost and Vampire Diaries but both characters he plays are vastly different (If I remember how Boon was). I’d be perfectly happy with this actor though.

      • ian looks like what dick Grayson would look like in real life!

    • Ah yes, Boone from LOST. I would be on board with him as well.

  13. Sounds like we’ll be seeing a lot of costumes, from the director of Watchmen , I’m impressed.

  14. This kid also has some really jacked up teeth

  15. I’m cool with Driver, he’s got the physicality and from what I’m hearing, he’s a good actor. I’m also assuming Girl is a comedy? So my guess is this Nightwing will bring some comedic charm to the film.

This is a rumor though, right?

  16. I see it somehow…Finally Nightwing in a movie. Will he use the red or blue costume?

  17. I knew it. I knew that with this “older, grizzled” Batman that some of the Bat-family would have to show up. I hope there’s a scene with Superman conversing with Batman in one of his hideouts and Nightwing steps out of the shadows. He wouldn’t even have to say anything, just a short cameo to show that the MoS universe is teeming with strange characters.

  18. That motherf*** is ugly and looks stupid.
He´s a funny version of a fellow latino.

But then again, he resembles Jonathan Taylor Thomas a bit, an american, so…

    Im confused!… I totally disagree!!

Olga Kureylenko and now him.. WTF?

  19. I’m barely hearing any news about Superman in his own sequel.

    • What news is there? He’s already been established in a way with MOS it only makes sense that people are speculating about the NEW Batman and what can be established with him.

      • +1

      • I understand that, but comparing it with the sequels of other superhero films:

“In this film Thor will be much more mature…”
“Stark’s gonna be experiencing some stress…”
“After 8 years of protecting Dent’s legacy, Bruce feels…”

Sort of that format. But first of all this will be a Man of Stee sequel, and I still have no clue about how Kal- El’s character will develop other than “he’ll need to face up to the Metropolis destruction”

    • Just for Janet……”It’s been confirmed that Cavill will be returning to reprise his role as The Man of Steel in SvB”. Outfit will be the same, he will be the same……so can we now get back to speculation on the unknowns?

  20. Is this a superman sequel or batman ? There is a nightwing but no superboy or supergirl ? Not even Chris Kent ? I mean his parents were in the first movie, he should be in the sequel. Time to expand the superman family.

    • It’s obvious that DC’s Superman sequel is competing with Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron since they’re both coming out in the same year and they’re both going to rival each other at the box office but too bad for MOS though it’s suppose to be a sequel about Superman but it’s seems like Batman is stealing the show I mean cmon they are throwing in so many Batman characters that you barely even hear anything about Superman I don’t mind but cmon though to me this MOS sequel feels more like a Batman movie just with Superman playing the sidekick and it makes Batman look like a glory hog and self centered like the center of attention for movies with him in it

  21. Nightwing? What about a Dick Grayson Robin first?

    • I guess they’ll do some Arrow type flashbacks.

      • I think flashbacks would be best for that. They could definitely makeup/cg Ben Affleck to make him look 10 years younger and show the point that he and Robin had their falling out and he became Nightwing.

  22. perhaps i’ll be proven wrong for prematurely jumping the gun when the film releases, but I can’t help thinking if superman will even show in his movie? good grief, is 600 plus million a disaster nowadays?

  23. Screw this movie. I was really excited for it and now they want to throw in every Tom, Dick and Wonder Woman. Just make Justice League if you’re going to cram in anyone. I don’t care about Robin or Nightwing. Yes, there is a good backstory to the character, but Batman on film needs to be alone. If this comes true, then I’ll consider WB to have ruined what could have been a good film until I see otherwise.

  24. I agree with van dyne, I’m more of a batman fan myself but it seems like superman is becoming secondary in his own sequel…

  25. While Driver is a fine actor, got the hair, the height and could pack on some muscle, his face is just too funny looking for me, unfortunately.

In my book Dick Grayson is as big of a ladies man as Bruce Wayne, and I don’t really think Driver could sell that part of the character (even if that’s something that’s not going to be featured in the actual movie)

  26. To everyone who keeps saying stuff like “is Superman even gonna show up in his own sequel?” I say to you, look at the movie symbol. There is no Nightwing symbol, no Wonder Woman symbol, and no Flash symbol. These characters that are rumored to be in this movie are most likely going to play a marginal role. At some point, Dick and Bruce have a face to face, have a short conversation about past events, and that’s it; exposition done. Or maybe he brings him info on Superman, they argue a bit, and he goes on his way. Wonder Woman is probably going to appear on the news or something like Dr. Hank McCoy in X2, or just on the screen of the Batcomputer. However small her part is, they’re gonna wanna cast the actress they’re going to be using later which is why they’re doing casting calls and all that. Superman’s actions and Zod’s invasion got world wide attention. It’s naive to think that there won’t be more people interested in what’s going on which means more characters are going to try and insert themselves into the mix. I personally think those 3 actresses are screen testing for Talia al-Ghul. Maybe she and the LOA will be helping Luthor in some way. I don’t think this is a mini Justice League movie. The only reason we aren’t hearing a bunch of Superman news is because we already know who is going to play Superman. The only casting left on his part is Luthor. Just enjoy the Batman news and remember that the only reason Batman is involved (story wise) is because Superman made such a mess. That’s going to be central to the film. We’ll get plenty of the big blue boy scout.

  27. This is no longer a Superman sequel.

  28. He doesn’t look right for the part at all.
