Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is getting pretty crowded on the hero front, with Wonder Woman and Aquaman joining the party alongside the two title characters. With a respectable portion of the Justice League on staff, Lex Luthor could potentially be pretty outnumbered and underpowered compared to the antagonists of Man of Steel – though admittedly Lex is a lot wealthier than Zod. He can probably afford to pay other people to have superpowers for him.
Filming on Batman V Superman began several weeks ago, but due to the shroud of secrecy surrounding the film we’re still expecting more important casting announcements to come. Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) was recently reported to be playing Lex’s assistant and bodyguard, Mercy Graves, and now new rumors point to a set of villains joining the movie.
Latino Review reports that the four additional antagonists who will make an appearance in Batman V Superman are serial killer Victor Zsasz, LexCorp’s PR rep Morgan Edge, assassin David Cain, and senator Amanda Waller. According to LR‘s sources, Zsasz (who made a brief appearance in Batman Begins) will fight with Batman in Gotham City, early on in the movie. Meanwhile, Edge is apparently first seen debating with Lois Lane on a TV talk show, and Cain is hired by Mercy Graves for an assassination. Waller is described as a “very stern and focused senator” who doesn’t trust Superman and hatches a plan against him.
Obviously this is all just rumor for now and LR‘s previous villain prediction about Batman V Superman – that it would star a bald, heavily tattooed, ex-gang leader version of Lex Luthor – ended up sounding like a pretty far cry from the long-haired, overly-caffeinated young genius that’s been described in set reports. This new report, however, maintains that Lex (along with Edge) used to be a member of a notorious Hob’s Bay gang.
There are no details as to who might be playing this quartet of characters, though Scoot McNairy was recently cast in an as-yet undisclosed role. Meanwhile, Amanda Waller is currently being played by Cynthia Addai-Robinson in The CW’s Arrow, and this crossover of characters may help to answer the questions of whether Warner Bros. intends to feature actors from the DC comics-based TV shows within the movie franchise.
All of these characters seem like reasonable choices for inclusion in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, although it sounds like Zsasz and Cain would only have fairly minor roles. LR also claims that neither Metallo nor the Joker will appear in the movie, despite recent rumors to that effect. If it’s true that these four antagonists are joining Lex Luthor on the side of the bad guys, Batman and Superman will have a lot more to fight than just each other.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is set for release on May 6th, 2016.
