Marketing for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is making its final push in advance of the film’s release later this week. All signs point to a massive opening weekend, and the studio is trying to get as much last-minute interest built up as possible. Helping with that, a new trailer featuring new footage debuted during this week’s episode of Gotham. Not only that, but an 11-minute featurette giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the characters and locations of Batman V Superman was also released.

In case you missed it during Gotham, the new trailer focuses largely on the Bruce Wayne side of the Batman V Superman conflict. We get a glimpse of the Wayne family crypt and Bruce preparing to go to war with the Man of Steel, despite Alfred’s objections. Scenes from the battle between Superman and Batman are also featured, interspersed with glimpses of Superman’s internal conflicts and supporting players like Lex Luthor and Wonder Woman.

The behind-the-scenes preview gives us glimpses of the action as well, mixed with interviews of the cast and crew. The featurette also shows off some of what went in to making the movie, including footage of the Batmobile being created and details on how the crew captured the Batmobile in action. We also get a good look at the design of the new Batcave, along with some information on Bruce Wayne’s motivations and relationship with Alfred.

It’s understandable why Warner Bros. is putting so much marketing effort into this film; not only is the movie itself a major investment, but it serves as a key piece of worldbuilding for the DC Extended Universe. Even though it looks to make its production budget back in the opening weekend alone, if the film doesn’t hit right with fans then it could set up the next films in the DCEU slate for disappointment. Warner wants Batman V Superman to not only make a lot of money, but to get fans excited about the upcoming universe of films as well. It looks to be doing a good job, since early fan reactions have been very positive.

Of course, critic reviews have been quite negative so far despite the positive fan reactions. This could suggest that Batman V Superman will be a divisive film, with some fans loving it while others hate it. Fortunately, the movie doesn’t have to be universally loved to be the hit that Warner Bros. needs.
