When Man of Steel 2 was confirmed as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (though that subtitle came later) at San Diego Comic-Con 2013, it opened the doors for DC's Shared Cinematic Universe. What began simply as a sequel for Henry Cavill's Superman now includes Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg and potentially more heroes as DC and Warner Bros. start building toward Justice League in 2017.
The announcement that movie versions of Superman and Batman would finally meet sent many fans into a tizzy - especially when it was revealed this film would be drawing inspiration from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, which features an epic smack-down between the two heroes. However, others feared Superman would be overshadowed in his own sequel. (Their sentiments are best summed up with this image.)
Obviously, we won't know for sure what the Supes to Bats ratio is in Batman v Superman until it releases, but at least a recent string of set photos implies there will be a substantial arc for the last son of Krypton.
Earlier this week we saw photos from filming at Smallville's cemetery, presumably where we'll see Clark come to pay respects to Pa Kent. Technically, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne was there, too, but a scene set at the late Kent's grave will surely be an emotional one for Cavill, and it's likely his father's death will still be weighing heavily on Clark in BvS.

It's hard to make out exactly what's happening in the scene being filmed in front of Chicago's Federal Plaza (BvS' stand-in for The Daily Planet), but one of those photos has a clear shot of Cavill and Adams in that iconic 'Superman carrying Lois' pose. Judging by the calm atmosphere, this isn't likely an instance where Superman has just saved her - like in Man of Steel when he swoops in to save her from the world machine destroying Metropolis - but something more romantic.
In Man of Steel, the romance between Clark and Lois begins roughly around the same time that Clark is coming to understand his role as a superhero. Come the end of the film, Clark has only begun working at The Daily Planet and Lois is already aware of his dual identity, which means their relationship will develop differently in BvS than what's happened before in films like 1978's Superman or even in Superman: The Animated Series.
In Superman, there's a similar-looking scene between Margo Kidder's Lois and Christopher Reeve's Superman. It's a classic moment and one that played with the dynamic that Lois doesn't realize fumbling Clark Kent and the statuesque Superman are the same guy. But again, BvS must be doing things differently, and there may be more difficulties for their relationship since one of them is a super-powered alien tasked with saving the world and the other knows it.
