For years now, audiences have enjoyed watching superheroes learn to control their abilities, take on new responsibilities, and work together as a team. This year, however, it’s all about watching superheroes fight each other like they’re in some back-alley brawl.
In the MCU, Cap and Iron Man are squaring off in Captain America: Civil War, Fox is pitting a fresh crop of X-Men against Apocalypse and his Four Horsemen in X-Men: Apocalypse, and representing Warner Bros. and DC Comics is the big title match — Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Just how much superhero versus superhero action these films will deliver remains to be seen, but it’s certainly been the strong selling point behind Zack Snyder’s second foray in the DCEU.
Accompanying Batman V Superman‘s clash of comic book titans is a soundtrack composed by Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL (a.k.a. Tom Holkenborg). Yet, unlike when Junkie XL collaborated with Zimmer on The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steal, the pair are co-composers for BvS, with each composer scoring one of the two opposing heroes. So Zimmer was responsible for scoring Superman, while Junkie XL handled Batman. The final results should prove interesting, only further highlighting the differences between Batman and Superman and perhaps what drives them to trading blows.
The Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice soundtrack will release on March 18th from Water Tower Music. You can check out the full track listing and listen to a 90-second clip from the soundtrack below.

There isn’t much than can be gleaned from that 90-second preview other than this sure sounds like a Hans Zimmer soundtrack, drawing heavily on Man of Steel‘s score and its intense percussion. The preview comes from the soundtrack’s second track, ‘Their War Here,’ which could be what’s playing during scenes of Bruce watching Superman battle Zod from afar since it so strongly echoes Man of Steel‘s score. While ‘Do You Bleed?’ and ‘Is She With You’ are fairly obvious, having been moments referenced in trailers and TV spots, the rest of the track titles aren’t as clear. That is, unless you read carefully and keep in mind the most recent rumors surrounding the plot of BvS.
The biggest mystery where the soundtrack is concerned, is how does Junkie XL’s score for Ben Affleck’s Batman sound? Clearly, Zimmer isn’t deviating much from what he gave Superman in Man of Steel, but this film is expected to have a new theme for Batman. So it’s interesting to note that on the iTunes listing for the soundtrack (which includes the times for each track), the Batman Suite, ‘Men Are Still Good,’ is 14-minutes long! That’s either a misprint, or one hell of a Batman suite.
The Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice soundtrack will be available March 18th on CD, Deluxe 2-CD set, and limited edition 3-Disc Vinyl edition. It’s also available for pre-order on iTunes and Amazon.
