One of the largest (and possibly the most expensive) movies coming out next year is Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The marketing department over at Warner Brothers wants audiences to know how big the upcoming DC superhero feature film, with their latest move being to unveil some behind the scenes photos of the project’s various sets.
The promotion from BvS has slowly been gaining traction in recent weeks – from sponsoring New York Comic Con 2015’s WiFi to viral marketing for Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) and his company, LexCorp. The main trio of superheroes in the movie have also been featured on magazine covers of late, in order to keep audiences hyped for the upcoming battle between Batman and Superman until something bigger (like a new trailer) drops.
As the upcoming cover of Total Film will feature Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), new production photos will also be included in the new issue – along with higher-resolution versions of screenshots from the full-length Batman V Superman trailer. You can check out those pics, below:
Director Zack Synder and the Batman V Superman cast will also be sitting down with Total Film to discuss more details about the film when the new issue of the magazine comes out on October 23rd. Here’s a taste of what Synder had to tell the magazine, with regard to his approach to Batman and Superman in this new movie:
“You kind of have to understand both of their point of views. I think you’re sympathetic to both, in a weird way. It’s inevitable, like two trains heading at each other on the same track.”
All in all, marketing is gearing up early to promote Batman V Superman – and for good reason. With rumors that BvS is costing WB about $410 million to make, the studio will have to attract a large audience to the theaters for a March release date. While the budget numbers may well be lower than rumored, it’s safe to say that this is not a cheap movie to make for the studio. After all, if WB intends to eventually expand its DC Extended Universe to include multiple Justice League films, then Snyder’s next film needs to be a hit – and a bit one, at that.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25th, 2016; Suicide Squad on August 5th, 2016; Wonder Woman on June 23rd, 2017; Justice League on November 17th, 2017; The Flash on March 23rd, 2018; Aquaman on July 27th, 2018; Shazam on April 5th, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14th, 2019; Cyborg on April 3rd, 2020; Green Lantern Corps on June 19th, 2020. Untitled Batman and Superman solo films will be coming at dates TBD.
