According to Empire Online things are already in the works for two Batman sequels: One involving the Joker and the second one Two-Face.
Normally I would call this sort of planning premature, but I really have little doubt that Batman Begins is going to both rake in the bucks and make fanboys around the world happy campers.
According to the article they won’t be making the mistake of killing off villains, instead keeping them around to comprise Batman’s rouges gallery as in the comics. They will also be connecting the transformation of Harvey Dent into Two-Face with the Joker.

Since Jack Nicholson’s version of the Joker is/was so infamous, aren’t they setting themselves up for comparison by doing villians tackled in the original movies?

I agree. Redoing Two-Face is okay in my book because Batman Forever sucked, but redoing Joker doesn’t make sense to me because of the success of the 1989 film.

I don’t think it will be an issue (if they find the right actor). The style of this movie (and the sequels) will be completely different from the original, and I hate to say it but 1989 was a long time ago in movie-time.

Point taken, but you were (correctly) talking about how the fanboys would be receiving these new films. What do you think the odds are that they won’t be making such comparisons?

I think that anyone who is a fan will be so incredibly relieved to see this movie after the travesty that was the last couple of films that it won’t bother them a bit.
Sure, Nicholson was great, but he was almost more Nicholson than Joker. It’s not like it was the performance to end all performances.

No, not the way Billy Crudup or Johnny Depp can. I think the closest he has come to “disappearing into a role” was About Schmidt.

I think there should be a new version of the joker. Nicholson was excellent in my opinion but it’s been over ten years, we need a younger joker, a new joker with a whole lot of psicology involved in him.
One that doesn’t die in the end, but rather gets locked on Arkham. And that makes The Batman question himself.
It’d be great to see him reborn. There will be comparisons, but I don’t think that should be an issue. After all, it’s a new gotham. It’s Batman from scratch and that is alright.
They should have the Scarecrow in the begining so we know what happened to him like the first five or ten minutes. Did batman caught him or not? But as for Batman6 I think it should be Robin Williams as the Joker and a villian(or two)that has not made a movie apperance. The ones that are left are still good are Clayface, the Ventriloquist and Scarface, Black Mask, Man-Bat, Killer Croc, Hush, Lady Shiva, Mad Hatter, Harley Quinn, and Talia.
I have heard that they are looking younger for the role of The Joker and considering the relatively unknown Russell Sams for the role. Russell was seen in the hit “Rules of Attraction.” Judging from his performance in “Rules..” I think he would make a great Joker.
These are the names I’ve heard have been considered for the Joker: Lachy Hulme, Crispin Glover, Paul Bettany, Tim Roth, and Sean Penn.
I agree Bryan….I give my vote to Rizzle to the Izzle…Russell Sams all the way.
They should cast a complete unknown as the Joker. It will give the sequel even more realism than its excellent predessor.
