Two days ago, Screen Rant’s own Niall Brown reported on Sienna Miller joining the cast of Ridley Scott’s Notthingham as Maid Marian.
Russell Crowe will portray the Sheriff of Notthingham in this revisionist take on the Robin Hood legend - i.e. the Shreiff is the good guy and Robin is the villain.
But with production expected to begin in a few months, there’s still yet to be a Robin Hood cast. However according to the UK’s Daily Mail, Scott is “exceedingly keen” to get The Dark Knight himself Christian Bale in the role. Although they were quick to point out that no contracts have been inked.

Of course, the fact that Bale and Crowe previously starred in the excellent 3:10 to Yuma remake (and apparently they got along well together) might help sell the deal.
Although at the moment, Bale is a man in demand. He just recently wrapped on Michael Mann’s Public Enemies with Johnny Depp and is in the midst of filming Terminator Salvation - The Future Begins.
So it might come down the old “scheduling conflicts” if Bale is in fact not able to take the role.
Here’s hoping they’re able to make this work this out because I’m already sold on the idea of Bale as a renegade version of Hood.
Notthingham is scheduled for a November 6, 2009 release.

Yeah would love to see him work with Russel again, they really worked good together (on the screen than) as those two cowboys (sorry, outlaw and rancher…
). Think they would form a lovely pair, again on the “opposite” side of the spectrum in Robin Hood.
What I didn’t know was that they took another viewpoint (Robin more as a villain) than I would expect to be normal. Could get really intresting, hope they make it serious and good.

Maybe Christian Bale has an identical twin actor brother and the two take turns being the actor and the agent.
It wouldn’t bother me, but I have a hard time seeing Christian Bale in the role of Robin Hood.
I think Bale has the talent and charisma to pull off any role he wants…I mean look at Patrick Bateman,Dan Evans,Bruce Wayne, Trevor Reznik, Dieter, John Rolfe, Quinn Ambercromby…he has the chops to do whatever he wishes when it comes to playing a role and make you love him or hate him everytime…
I’m a big fan of both Crowe AND Bale and I did think they were great together in 3:10 TY .
I even like the idea of Bale as Robin Hood ( very cool ).
However I’m not real keen on the concept of Robin Hood as the villian.
It is , however , an interesting idea and I do think they should do it .
AND if Bale does this then he’ll be one of the few actors to play BOTH Batman AND Robin(hood)
Somewhat overexposed. He’s like movie fast food.
Great actors don’t get overexposed.

When it comes to opinions yeah I guess. Lol.
I do think Bale as Hood would be great, especially one more complex than usual.
But isn’t Batman a darker Robin Hood anyway, and John Connor is the renegade on behalf of all humanity.
Just seems one step too far for me. Not on his part, but how many famous roles can you play in a short time?
